Chapter 83
Chapter 83
He Qian’s hair nearly stood on end.
Qin Song snapped, “Don’t you fucking scare me. What are you talking about?”
The girl said, enunciating each word, “There is someone hiding in this room.”
He Qian’s breathing grew rapid. She bitterly regretted not confronting the two of them directly that afternoon. At least then, she would have had some ground to stand on.
If they dragged her out from under the bed now, what would that even look like?
She was covered in dust from head to toe, her face was filthy, and she was holding in a full bladder. Lying down was still manageable, but if she stood up, she might not even be able to straighten her back.
If they really discovered her in such a sorry state, then it would be obvious she had been hiding under the bed as a voyeur for the past four or five hours. By then, forget having any ground to stand on-her dignity and pride would be gone too.
Qin Song said, “Don’t start acting crazy. If you think someone is hiding here, why don’t you call the police? You’re always muttering about weird shit all day long.”
The girl suddenly stopped talking.
Qin Song stopped talking too.
The two people on the bed seemed to have vanished.
Why had they both gone silent? What were they doing?
He Qian panicked.
Her mind raced. Maybe the two of them had silently raised a finger to their lips in unison, then picked up their phones and started typing messages to each other instead-so that the “third person” wouldn’t hear.
Or maybe they were using sign language, communicating through glances and gestures.
He Qian couldn’t see anything. She couldn’t hear anything. She had become completely passive.
The more she tried to keep herself still and quiet, the more her body trembled uncontrollably.
It was already dark. The two of them had stayed glued to the bed without turning on the lights, and He Qian could no longer see anything.
She widened her eyes, trying hard to adjust to the darkness, desperate to make out something-anything-that would give her back even a sliver of control.
Suddenly, a voice sounded right beside her ear. “What are you spying on?”
He Qian turned her face toward the sound. At some point, the girl had gotten off the bed. Now she was lying on the floor, face-to-face with He Qian, quietly staring at her.
He Qian shuddered violently and snapped her eyes open-she had fallen asleep under the bed.
She tried to figure out at what point the dream had begun.
She opened her phone and saw the message her mother-in-law had sent that afternoon: “Where did you go?”
The message had not been deleted, which meant she must have glanced at WeChat back then and gradually drifted off.
The sky outside had indeed darkened, but the two of them had turned on the lights.
At that moment, the girl was filing her nails in front of the vanity, while Qin Song was playing a game on his phone.
The girl said, “Honey, I only have two nails left. Is your match over yet?”
Qin Song said, “Almost, almost, almost… There, done! I won!”
After finishing the last nail, the girl stood up. “Let’s go.”
Qin Song put down his phone. “Let’s go, let’s go. I’m starving.”
The girl said, “Besides everything I mentioned earlier, I also want a glass of fresh honey milk.”
Qin Song said, “No problem. Let’s head out!”
The two of them turned off the lights, shut the door, and left.
He Qian finally let out a breath of relief. She quickly crawled out from under the bed and rushed into the bathroom.
After taking care of her urgent need, she was pulling up her pants when she suddenly noticed something white wedged in the gap between the bathroom trash can and the wall. It reflected a bit of light.
She moved the trash can aside and looked-a white card.
The room card for 302!
That girl had lost three cards, and one of them had ended up here!
He Qian picked up the card and stuffed it into her pocket.
Facing the mirror, she washed the dust off her face, then quickly opened the door and walked out.
She took the elevator down to the first floor and hurried out of the hotel.
Hu Heng was standing at the front desk checking invoices. When he looked up, he saw He Qian’s back as she rushed away.
Hu Heng frowned. “S-Sis-in-law?”
He Qian had already gone out the door without looking back.
The tall girl at the front desk asked curiously, “Manager Hu, who were you calling sis-in-law?”
Hu Heng said, “I mistook her for someone else… Can you focus on your work?”
The tall girl gave an “oh” and lowered her head to continue working.
