Chapter 97

Hua Jiunan and the other two slept for an entire day.

It was already past eight in the evening, and they still hadn’t gotten up.

Deaf Granny felt sorry for her grandson, so she sent Chen Fu’s wife to wake them.

“Go check on the three boys. They haven’t eaten all day.”

“Wake them up so we can have dinner together in a bit.”

After Hua Jiunan got up, Wang Qianyue brought him a basin of warm water to wash his face.

Hu Fei’er stood off to the side with a red face, holding a hot towel and waiting.

The sight made Zhao Fei unbearably jealous.

“Damn, we’re all human, so why is the difference in treatment so huge?!”

Chen Daji curled his lip. “You won’t be human for much longer. Tonight, a ghost’s coming to take you away!”

When they entered Deaf Granny’s room and saw the steaming-hot dishes on the table, Chen Daji couldn’t help reaching out to grab some.

“Oh man, I’m starving!”

Deaf Granny picked up her chopsticks and smacked him on the hand.

“You brat, where are your manners?!”

“How can you start eating before your father gets here?”

Chen Daji realized he’d been in the wrong too. He rubbed the back of his hand where she’d hit him and gave an embarrassed laugh.

“You three boys remember this: of all virtues, filial piety comes first.”

As Deaf Granny set out the bowls and chopsticks, she smiled and earnestly instructed them.

“Once you go out into society, don’t get too close to anyone who’s not filial.”

“Think about it. If someone won’t even treat the parents who gave birth to him and raised him properly, can anything you do for him ever surpass what his parents have done?”

Hua Jiunan and the others nodded again and again, indicating that they would remember.

As they were talking, Zhao Aiguo and Chen Fu walked in one after the other.

Seeing that Deaf Granny had been waiting for them before eating, the two men hurried over.

“Old Auntie, we’re sorry. We got back late.”

“Please, sit down.”

Only after Deaf Granny smiled and took the first bite of food did everyone else pick up their chopsticks and begin eating.

“You two were busy all day today. How did it go?”

At Deaf Granny’s question, Chen Fu answered excitedly,

“Old Auntie, you should’ve seen it. Old Zhao was really impressive today!”

“We went through four townships in total. He slammed the table and dismissed two incompetent township heads on the spot!”

“Boy, that scared the living daylights out of those people. They immediately promised to inspect unsafe houses through the night and visit the poor households.”

After Deaf Granny heard this, her smile deepened.

“Aiguo, well done!”

Zhao Aiguo thought back on the things he’d done in the past, and his old face couldn’t help flushing.

“It’s all thanks to Old Auntie’s guidance these past two days. Let me toast you!”

While they were eating, a tiny whirlwind a dozen or so centimeters tall suddenly came in through the door curtain and flew into the room close to the ground.

It stopped right by Deaf Granny’s feet.

Deaf Granny set down her bowl and chopsticks and said,

“The Immortal Spirits of Earth-returning Hall have returned!”

“You all keep eating. This old woman will go to the side room and take a look.”

Hua Jiunan wanted to help her, but Deaf Granny stopped him.

“None of you move. The Immortal Spirits of Earth-returning Hall are a little special. Don’t offend him by accident.”

Hu Fei’er was well-behaved and helped Deaf Granny to her feet.

“Grandma, it should be fine if I go, right?”

Deaf Granny smiled and nodded.

More than half an hour later, Deaf Granny’s voice rang out from the courtyard.

“Xiao Jiu, and you two from the Zhao Family, come here. Everyone else, once you’re done eating, go back to your rooms and sleep.”

“Remember this: no matter what you hear tonight, none of you are allowed to come out!”

When Chen Fu saw Chen Daji following them outside too, he couldn’t help cursing,

“Stop right there, you little bastard!”

“Old Auntie didn’t call for you. Don’t go making trouble!”

Chen Daji didn’t care about that at all. In a flash, he ran outside.

“Dad, Grandma just forgot to call me. If you don’t believe me, go ask her.”

Chen Fu had no choice but to keep eating, muttering under his breath,

“That damn little brat. Sooner or later, I’m going to give him a beating!”

In the courtyard, Deaf Granny’s expression was solemn.

“We’ve found out what’s going on. Zhao Fei, that boy, has caused a major disaster!”

“The child who was aborted was the reincarnation of one of the Flying General Li Guang’s subordinate officers.”

“Now the old general is furious and is coming to settle accounts with you!”

“Ah, what a mess this has become!”

After hearing this, Zhao Aiguo asked nervously,

“Old Auntie, are you talking about that General Li of Shooting Stone and Fighting Tiger?”

Deaf Granny sighed and nodded.

Chen Daji was completely lost, because he had no idea who Li Guang was.

“Big Brother, can you explain it to me…?”

Hua Jiunan had no choice but to explain.

Li Guang was a famous general and national hero of the Western Han dynasty.

He spent his entire life defending the frontiers against the Xiongnu.

The Xiongnu both feared and respected him, calling him the “Flying General.”

Later, during the Battle of Mobei, Li Guang lost his way and failed to join the battle in time. Overcome with shame and anger, he took his own life.

The ones who committed suicide along with him included three subordinate officers and a hundred personal guards.

After listening, Chen Daji sighed repeatedly.

“Damn, no wonder those ten Hundred-Battle Warrior Spirits last night were so powerful. Turns out they had serious origins!”

Hu Fei’er spoke in her sweet, lovely voice.

“I’ve heard my elders at home mention General Li before.”

“Because he died by suicide, and because his heart remained tied to the homeland, he never reincarnated after death.”

“Instead, he and his hundred personal guards have stayed near Xiaoyu Mountain in the Yin-Yang Realm all this time, helping the Underworld Court hunt down any escaped evil ghost.”
