Chapter 76

Early the next morning, Chen Fu was stunned when he saw Chen Daji’s forehead covered in scabs.

“Good grief, you little brat! What happened to your head?”

“Did you fall off the kàng while sleeping and land face-first?!”

Chen Daji was also taken aback when he saw how listless Chen Fu looked.

“Dad, what’s wrong with you?”

“Didn’t sleep well last night?!”

Chen Fu looked utterly dejected.

“Ugh, don’t even talk to me about it!”

“The moment I close my eyes, I start snoring. The moment I start snoring, your mother wakes me up!”

“It was bloody awful. Neither of us got a wink of sleep all night!”

At this point, Chen Fu lit a cigarette to perk himself up.

“Don’t change the subject! I’m asking you what happened to your forehead!”

Chen Daji started spouting nonsense.

“Last night, Brother Jiunan and I became sworn brothers. I got these from kowtowing!”

As he spoke, Hua Jiunan happened to walk out of his room.

“Good morning, Uncle Chen!”

Chen Fu looked at Hua Jiunan’s smooth forehead and couldn’t help but wonder. He turned to Chen Daji.

“What? When you two became sworn brothers, were you the only one kowtowing to Jiunan?”

“Aren’t you supposed to kowtow to each other?!”

“Are you becoming sworn brothers or are you adopting a godfather!”

“Why didn’t you just kowtow yourself to death, you brat!”

Chen Daji was also confused.

“Big Brother’s face was covered in blood from kowtowing last night too. How did his injuries heal in just one night…”

“Oh, right, Dad. You can’t leave this courtyard from now on.”

“Grandfather Tree has promised to protect you!”

Chen Fu was instantly overjoyed. He rushed over to the pine tree in a few quick steps and knelt to offer his thanks.

“Thank you, Great Elder. This junior kowtows to you!”

After getting up, Chen Fu immediately called his driver.

“Hello, Xiao Li? Arrange for someone to send me dozens of tons of fertilizer immediately!”

“I want the most expensive kind!”

“What? Spicy strips? Oh, right! Bring another truckload of spicy strips too!”

Lines of black appeared on Hua Jiunan’s forehead as he listened.

This father and son duo really had unique personalities.

One offered spicy strips to ghosts, while the other offered fertilizer to a Tree Immortal!

But thinking about it carefully, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with it…

After the family finished breakfast, Chen Fu suddenly thought of a crucial question.

“Jiunan, how long does Uncle have to stay at your house?”

“I can’t stay here and trouble you all for the rest of my life, can I?”

This question stumped Hua Jiunan.

Chen Daji gave a mischievous grin and spoke up.

“Dad, theoretically speaking, you can only leave Grandma’s house when the Big Zongzi in the ancient tomb dies.”

Chen Fu was stunned.

“Then when will that Big Zongzi die?”

How would Chen Daji know that? He could only talk out of his ass.

“Hard to say, but I reckon it’ll take at least eight or ten thousand years!”

This sentence completely crushed Chen Fu.

“Holy crap! Even if I use every ounce of strength I have, I won’t live to be a hundred!”

“Does that mean I can’t leave the house for the rest of my life?!”

Seeing his father’s dejected face, Chen Daji instead laughed with schadenfreude.

“What’s wrong with living here? You can drink with Grandma every day and listen to the radio.”

“If you’re really bored, you can learn how to knit sweaters from my mom.”

Chen Fu barked out a curse in anger.

“Get the hell out of here!”

After sighing for a while, Chen Fu turned his gaze back to Hua Jiunan.

“Jiu, can you think of another way to help your uncle?”

“I’m only in my forties. I can’t just stay here every day, eating and waiting to die!”

Hua Jiunan couldn’t withstand Chen Fu’s pitiful gaze. After thinking carefully, he actually came up with a solution.

“There is one other person who can deal with the thing in the tomb.”

“But he hasn’t appeared for many years. I don’t know if we can find him!”

Just then, Old Sixth Hui walked in from outside and happened to overhear Hua Jiunan’s words.

“Is the young master physician referring to the ‘Valiant General’?”

Hua Jiunan nodded.

“That’s right, Uncle Snow Corpse!”

“Sixth Brother Hui, can Uncle Snow Corpse defeat the thing in the ancient tomb?”

Old Sixth Hui looked pensive.

“That’s hard to say!”

“By rights, the ‘Valiant General’ received a Fengzheng from the Emperor himself back then, making him a righteous deity.”

“The thing in the tomb has used ten thousand lives as living sacrifices for over a thousand years; it is a fierce deity.”

“As for who is stronger or weaker, we’ll only know once they start fighting.”

The hope that had just ignited in Chen Fu was instantly extinguished by Old Sixth Hui’s words.

He said dejectedly,

“I see. Sigh!”

“Then forget it. Let’s not trouble Snow… Brother Snow Corpse.”

“We can’t put others in danger because of our own problems.”

“Doing that would be immoral. My son would be born without an asshole!”

Hearing Chen Fu’s words, Chen Daji subconsciously felt his own backside.

*Thankfully, my dad wasn’t immoral. I’ve got everything I’m supposed to have…*

Chen Fu’s words actually made Old Sixth Hui look at him in a new light.

“Brother, don’t lose heart.”

“If we can invite the Valiant General, and with the support of Brother Chang Huaiyuan and myself, we can definitely kill the thing in the tomb!”

As soon as Old Sixth Hui finished speaking, the elegant, white-clad Chang Huaiyuan appeared in the courtyard.

“Since Brother Hui has such heroic spirit, Chang Huaiyuan shall accompany you even at the risk of my life!”
