Chapter 67
Chapter 67
As the two of them entered the main gate, they happened to run into Ma Ruidong, the man responsible for their daily affairs.
He had just been assigned here the previous year and was still unmarried, living in the staff dormitory.
“Hua Jiunan, you need to make up for the work you’ve missed these past few days as soon as possible.”
“Borrow someone’s notes to look over first. If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to come and ask me anytime.”
Before Hua Jiunan could speak, Chen Daji was the first to voice his stance.
“Don’t you worry, I’ll make it up too!”
Ma Ruidong was taken aback, then said with great sincerity, “You? It’ll be much harder for you to catch up. You’ll have to start from the very basics!”
Chen Daji looked embarrassed. “You know, sometimes the truth really hurts…”
Knowing shame leads to courage-this phrase described Chen Daji perfectly.
Over the next period of time, the boy seemed like a changed person.
Not only did he work hard every day, but he also insisted on waking up at four in the morning to practice boxing with Hua Jiunan.
As they say, as long as one works hard, there will surely be rewards.
Chen Daji’s most obvious reward was that the number of pinyin characters he used in his love letters to Li Yun was becoming fewer and fewer.
Even Hua Jiunan couldn’t help but praise him.
“I really didn’t see it coming, Daji. You’re actually quite smart.”
“In just a few days, you’ve made rapid progress!”
Chen Daji felt a bit shy and scratched his head. “It’s nothing, Big Brother. Using a dictionary isn’t that hard.”
“Li Yun only taught me for three days before I learned how…”
Hua Jiunan was stunned for a moment before finally squeezing out a sentence: “Daji, you’re a goddamn ‘little genius’!”
Just then, someone ran in frantically.
“Big Brothers, come quick and take a look! Zhang Shun was beaten by Fatty Zhao while he was doing the cleaning!”
Fatty Zhao’s real name was Zhao Fei. His most prominent feature was his weight; he weighed at least two hundred and seventy or eighty pounds.
He lived in the county seat, and it was said his father was a high-ranking official.
Supposedly, he had come to the town to lie low after getting a woman pregnant back in the city.
Relying on his family’s connections, Zhao Fei was used to acting like a tyrant, and bullying others was a common occurrence for him.
By the time Hua Jiunan and Chen Daji arrived, they saw Hu Wa supporting a bruised and swollen Zhang Shun, standing to one side.
Zhao Fei was pointing at them and cursing arrogantly.
When Hu Wa saw Hua Jiunan, he looked like a bullied child who had finally seen his parent.
“Brother Jiunan, Zhao Fei and his group are bullying us!”
“We finished cleaning our area, but then they swept the snow from their side over to ours.”
“When Zhang Shun tried to reason with them, Zhao Fei hit him!”
After hearing this, Chen Daji was so angry he laughed.
“Holy crap, you guys are something else!”
“I’m usually the one doing the bullying. This is the first time I’ve been on the receiving end!”
“Come on, let me see who’s so damn tough!”
Although Chen Daji was a newcomer, his reputation preceded him.
Everyone knew his family was rich.
To be precise, they owned mines-several of them!
So when Chen Daji stepped forward, the others immediately went silent.
Zhao Fei, however, gave a cold sneer.
“You must be Chen Daji, right? I’ve heard of you.”
“Don’t think you can act all high and mighty in front of me just because your family has a bit of stinking money!”
“Even if I beat you into a cripple today, you’ll have nowhere to go for justice. Believe me?”
Before Chen Daji could respond, Hua Jiunan stepped forward to block him, speaking coldly to Zhao Fei.
“If you dare touch Daji once, I guarantee you’ll be the one who ends up a cripple today!”
Intimidated by the icy aura emanating from Hua Jiunan, Zhao Fei involuntarily took a step back.
Then, putting on a brave front, he asked, “What kind of punk are you supposed to be, daring to meddle in my business!”
Chen Daji cursed loudly, “Fatty Zhao, screw you and your ancestors! You’re the punk!”
“He’s my Big Brother, Hua Jiunan!”
Upon hearing Hua Jiunan’s name, Zhao Fei actually felt relieved.
In his mind, this kid from a small mountain village was a nobody.
He wasn’t nearly as much of a threat as that nouveau riche, Chen Daji.
“Heh heh heh, Hua Jiunan, are you looking for a beating?”
With a look from Zhao Fei, over a dozen people with him immediately surrounded Hua Jiunan aggressively.
They didn’t dare hit Chen Daji, but they didn’t care about a poor kid like Hua Jiunan who was just like them.
Seeing this, Chen Daji immediately shouted toward his own side.
“They want a group fight! Brothers, let’s go! If anything happens, I’ll take the fall!”
However, it was clear that Chen Daji didn’t have much influence.
Or rather, since they had only known each other for a few days, everyone wasn’t familiar yet and hadn’t formed any real bond.
Only five or six people came over to help, including the two girls, Xu Fangcao and Li Yun.
