Chapter 49
Chapter 49
After listening, Chen Daji was completely shocked.
“Holy crap, there are so many types of zombies?”
“It looks like I really need to study hard from now on. Otherwise, not only will I fail at writing love letters, I won’t even be able to tell one zombie from another!”
Hua Jiunan chuckled. “So you finally realized your love letters are trash?”
Blushing slightly, Chen Daji hesitantly pulled out a heavily scented love letter and handed it to Hua Jiunan.
“I think the content is fine. It just has a few typos.”
“Li Yun returned this to me yesterday.”
Hua Jiunan opened it and was utterly stunned.
What on earth was this?!
In a love letter of barely two hundred words, Li Yun had used a red pen to mark over a hundred typos!
And that wasn’t even counting the punctuation errors!
What made Hua Jiunan want to cough up blood the most was that whenever Chen Daji didn’t know how to write a character, he just used pinyin instead!!!
There were more than a dozen instances of that alone!
At that moment, a single question flashed frantically through Hua Jiunan’s mind:
How did Chen Daji even get into high school?!
Oh, right, right… this guy paid a fortune to get in through the back door…
Hua Jiunan tentatively said to Chen Daji, “Good brother, can I discuss something with you?”
Chen Daji carefully tucked the love letter away, even giving it a quick kiss. The letter bore the ‘calligraphy’ of his goddess, Li Yun, so he cherished it deeply.
“Go ahead, Big Brother! As long as I can do it, I won’t hesitate!”
“Um… Daji, in the future, could you maybe stay a bit further away from me? I feel embarrassed being seen with you…”
“Holy crap, Big Brother, what’s that supposed to mean? I’ll fight you!”
As the two were messing around, Teacher Zhang walked over with a stern face.
“You two are something else. You’re standing out here as punishment and you’re still this happy!”
“Grab your history textbooks and follow me to the office!”
“If you can’t memorize the key points of the first fifteen chapters, you’ll stay in the office and keep memorizing. Don’t even think about eating!”
“I’ll be right there with you!”
Hua Jiunan was a genius with a near-photographic memory. It took him only half an hour to complete the task.
Teacher Zhang looked at Hua Jiunan, making no effort to hide his admiration.
He said to him earnestly, “Student Hua Jiunan, genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.”
“So you must continue to work hard. Do not let yourself fall into depravity.”
“You know the saying, ‘He who touches vermilion becomes red, and he who touches ink becomes black,’ right?”
“Stay away from certain people in the future. Don’t let them lead you astray!”
Hua Jiunan nodded quickly. “Don’t worry, Teacher. I’ll never get distracted in class again!”
Only then did Teacher Zhang show a satisfied smile. “Go on to the cafeteria and eat. A healthy body is the foundation of everything!”
The “certain person” Teacher Zhang referred to saw Hua Jiunan leaving and grew anxious.
“Reporting, Teacher! My ‘foundation’ is hungry too. Can I go eat first?”
Teacher Zhang gave Chen Daji a cold sideways glance. “Do you even have a foundation? I don’t see one!”
That night, Chen Daji didn’t return to the dormitory until after eleven o’clock.
The moment he entered, he tore open a pack of instant noodles and began devouring them ravenously.
Hu Wa and the others burst out laughing. “Brother Daji, did you finally memorize it?”
Chen Daji replied while eating, “Memorize my foot!”
“Teacher Zhang got so hungry he couldn’t take it anymore and went home!”
“Hahaha! Holy crap, that actually worked?!”
The boys in the dorm laughed even more unrestrainedly.
The direct consequence of this incident was that Hua Jiunan was moved to the very front row. This was a common method teachers used to look after high-achieving students.
From then on, Chen Daji was left to “guard the empty room” alone in the back row.
Hua Jiunan supported Teacher Zhang’s decision with both hands and both feet.
It wasn’t that he disliked Chen Daji, but because after the seat adjustment, Xu Fangcao became his desk-mate.
The two shared a shy glance; everything was understood without a word!
As the saying goes: A man might take a knife to the ribs for his brother, but he might also stick two knives in his brother for a woman…
No lies detected!
After evening self-study that day, Hua Jiunan followed his usual routine and walked Xu Fangcao all the way to the school gate.
He could only go that far, as boarding students were not allowed to leave the school without a teacher’s permission.
Xu Fangcao asked shyly, “What do you want to eat tomorrow morning? I’ll bring you breakfast.”
Hua Jiunan replied with a silly grin, “As long as you make it, I’ll love anything.”
After they parted, a yellow weasel followed closely behind Xu Fangcao, disappearing into the swirling snow.
It had been sent by the Huang Family Immortal to secretly protect Hua Jiunan.
However, it now had an additional task: escorting Xu Fangcao home every day.
As Hua Jiunan walked back to the dormitory alone, a voice suddenly rang in his ear:
“Young Friend, if it is convenient, you may come to the backyard to find me at the Hour of the Ox tonight.”
“This Humble Daoist has some matters to consult with you.”
