Chapter 113

When Hua Jiunan saw that Chen Daji wasn’t dead, he was first overcome with wild joy. Then, using every last bit of strength he had left, he kicked Chen Daji square in his big butt.

“Damn it, you made me cry!”

Hemp-clad Grandmother let out a cackling laugh, removed the Corpse-binding Lock from her body, and tossed it onto the ground.

“Not bad, you little bastard. You even dared to trick Grandmother!”

“Take that rope and go hang yourself!”

“Hurry up and don’t miss the auspicious hour. We still have to get you married tonight!”

Chen Daji secretly glanced at the eight bashful female ghosts, then thought about Li Yun. For a moment, he was genuinely torn.

Should I die now, or wait until after I win Li Yun over…

“Grandmother, I really need to think carefully about the whole hanging thing. At the very least, shouldn’t I pick an auspicious day?”

“How about this? You help Elder Chang deal with that zombie boss first, and I’ll mull it over by myself for a bit…”

Hemp-clad Grandmother looked up. The battle now stood as follows:

Chang Huaiyuan and General Li Guang were joining forces against Zhang Liang.

Though the “General of Man” had been severely wounded by the Five Thunder Shattering Firmament Righteous Method, his savage might remained undiminished.

At that moment, he had actually gained the complete upper hand!

As for the other Yellow Turban Ghosts and Yellow Turban Strongmen, they had already been beaten into disarray by the various animal Immortal Spirits and the Hundred-Battle Warrior Spirits.

Even the twelve Flying Corpses had been restrained by secret arts under the joint effort of the major family heads, then tossed carelessly together like so many dead bodies.

Seeing this, Hemp-clad Grandmother slipped into the Ghost Sedan, which shrieked through the air as it charged toward Zhang Liang.

“Kekekeke. Fine, I’ll let you think for a while, you little bastard.”

“Grandmother will clean up that Big Zongzi first and vent some anger for you all!”

Chen Daji cupped his hands around his mouth like a trumpet and shouted at the Ghost Sedan in the sky:

“Grandmother, make sure you protect my wives… my sisters!”

“I’m counting on you!”

As he spoke, Hu Qingshan came over with Hu Fei’er. Old Sixth Hui also approached, supported by Bai Wuwei.

Because Hu Fei’er had the protection of the “tattoo” on Hua Jiunan’s body, she had not been hurt at all.

But Old Sixth Hui…

He had been bitten and torn by four Flying Corpses until his whole body was covered in wounds and drenched in blood. In many places, great chunks of flesh were missing.

Raw, shocking holes of blood gaped open.

His single remaining arm looked especially desolate.

At the sight, everyone fell silent, not knowing how to offer comfort.

They could only think to themselves:

Old Sixth had worked hard for half his life.

He had finally received Daoist classics from the young master physician and gained a chance at liberation, but now he had ended up maimed…

From now on, his path of cultivation would probably become even harder!

The moment Hua Jiunan saw Old Sixth Hui, he immediately went up to him with Chen Daji’s support.

Overcome with emotion, he could only hold Old Sixth Hui’s lone arm in grief, unable to find a single word to say.

Old Sixth Hui, however, seemed exceptionally open-minded.

“Young master physician, there is no need for this!”

“As long as you are safe, even if I had to give up my life, I would do so willingly!”

Hearing this made everyone feel even worse.

Especially Hua Jiunan.

He would rather have lost the arm himself!

“Sixth Brother, I dragged you into this!!!”

Hu Qingshan took out a pill and handed it over.

“Brother Hui, take this. It is nothing particularly precious, but it should at least stop the bleeding.”

In saying this, Hu Qingshan was being modest.

This pill had been refined from many hundred-year-old spiritual treasures, and it had taken him nearly ten years to make.

Even Hu Qingshan only had thirteen of them in his possession.

If not for seeing how much Hua Jiunan valued Old Sixth Hui, he never would have been willing to take one out!

Once taken, this medicine could not only immediately stop bleeding and regrow flesh, but also increase one’s cultivation to a certain extent.
It could be called a superb treasure for keeping oneself alive!

Old Sixth Hui did not put on any false modesty. With a chuckle, he accepted it.

“Then I thank Brother Hu!”

However, he did not eat it. Instead, he carefully tucked it into his clothes.

Under everyone’s puzzled gazes, Old Sixth Hui scratched his head with his lone arm, looking a little embarrassed.

“Didn’t my wife give birth to a litter last month?”

“One of the little ones was born with a hard lot in life. He’s weak by nature. If I don’t use some kind of method, I’m afraid he won’t live more than a few days.”

“I was just worrying over that! This pill can save his life!”

Looking at Old Sixth Hui, whose entire body was soaked in blood, and then hearing these words from him, Hua Jiunan felt as if stormy waves were churning inside his heart.

“Sixth Brother, if something happened at home, why didn’t you tell me?!”

“Have you forgotten? My medical skills are inferior to no one’s!”

Old Sixth Hui sighed and said with heartfelt sincerity:

“The young master physician never looked down on my humble origins. You treated me as a true friend and even taught me the Great Dao.”

“Such great kindness already leaves me anxious day and night, not knowing how I could ever repay it. How would I dare keep troubling you?”

“Besides, though our race is born with cheap lives, we give birth to many.”

“My family has a dozen or so litters a year. Losing one or two doesn’t hurt. We’re used to it!”

That was what he said, but the hand with which Old Sixth Hui gripped the pill clenched even tighter.

Note: Let me explain here why Old Sixth Hui losing an arm will affect his future cultivation.

In the cultivation of our Eastern Divine Land, emphasis is placed on the unity of spirit and body.

This is true whether one is human or animal.

It means the body and the soul ascend together; neither can be lacking.

It is not like what the Buddhists proclaim, that the “body is merely a stinking sack of skin”!

Whether in Daoism, Confucianism, or the other schools of thought, it is all the same.

There is a saying that puts it well: the body, hair, and skin are received from one’s parents; one dares not damage them, and this is the beginning of filial piety.

Once the body is damaged, especially if a limb is missing, there is basically no possibility of continuing cultivation.

Some esteemed readers may want to argue: What about Iron Crutch Li, the foremost of the Eight Immortals of the Upper Cavern? Isn’t he a cripple?

In Daoist scriptures, Iron Crutch Li was originally a dignified, handsome man.

He cultivated Daoist arts in a mountain cave and had already reached a very high level of attainment. He could even separate his soul from his physical body.

One day, he decided to seek out an expert, so he ordered his disciple to guard his corpse while his soul went out wandering.

Unexpectedly, after several days, a major incident happened in his disciple’s family, and the disciple had to hurry home.

So he had no choice but to burn his master’s body before returning home.

Not long after, Iron Crutch Li’s soul returned, but he could not find his own body and was terribly alarmed.

In the end, he barely managed to find a corpse in the woods that had died of starvation, and he could only use it to revive himself.

It was precisely because of this that he became the way he is now.

And do not forget the key point that allowed him to ascend: who was his master?

The Grand Supreme Elder Lord, foremost of the Three Pure Ones!

In the traditional immortal hierarchy of our Divine Land, ranked from highest to lowest, there are:

The Three Pure Ones, the Four Emperors, the Five Elders, the Six Supervisors, the Seven Primes, the Eight Extremities, the Nine Luminaries, and the Ten Capitals.

Even Journey to the West, that novel which disparages Daoism and exalts Buddhism, acknowledges this point.

Tathagata Buddha is only one of the Five Elders, the Western Buddha Elder.

So Iron Crutch Li’s case cannot be replicated.

Moreover, Iron Crutch Li has another godlike master as well. If you esteemed readers are interested, I will tell you about it later.
