Chapter 80
Chapter 80
The young Daoist, Hu Ping, seeing his master choose to stay behind and fight for his life, immediately cried out and tried to rush back.
“Master, wait! I’ll help you deal with those filthy things!”
Professor Ma grabbed him firmly and said in a heavy voice, “Even your master isn’t certain of success. What use is there in you staying?”
“If you want to save your master, the only way is to go and beg Young Friend Hua Jiunan!”
Hu Ping finally snapped out of it and wiped his tears with his sleeve.
“I’ll go right now! I’ll go and apologize to him!”
“As long as Hua Jiunan can come and save my master, I’ll even kowtow to him!”
Seeing Professor Ma glaring at him, Deputy Team Leader Niu said sheepishly, “Don’t be angry. I’ll also go and apologize to that kid and ask him to come back…”
Professor Ma, frustrated by his incompetence, roared at Deputy Team Leader Niu, “What do you mean ‘that kid’? You should address him as young master physician!”
“Remember, your attitude must be absolutely respectful!”
Deputy Team Leader Niu hurriedly started the car and drove off with the young Daoist Hu Ping. “I know, I know!”
Once everyone was ready to leave, they noticed Professor Ma walking toward the tomb.
Someone shouted, “Professor, why aren’t you coming with us?!”
Professor Ma didn’t look back; only his steady voice carried through the wind and snow.
“I am the one in charge here. What would it look like if I ran away?”
“All of you, leave quickly!”
“Unless I call you, no one is allowed to return!”
In that short span of time, the black mist billowing from the fissure at the mountain peak grew thicker. The mist did not dissipate; instead, it condensed in the air, writhing constantly.
It was as if countless terrifying human faces were struggling to break free from within. From time to time, bursts of miserable shrieks could be heard.
Due to the sudden earthquake, the school needed to inspect and reinforce the buildings, so they decided to grant a temporary holiday for a few days.
Early that morning, Hua Jiunan and Chen Daji were sent back to the village by Chief Zhou.
As soon as Chen Daji entered the gate, he saw Chen Fu sitting in the courtyard, massaging Deaf Granny’s legs.
Chen Fu was stunned to see his son return.
“Holy crap, you little brat, why are you home all of a sudden?”
“Did you get expelled from school?!”
Chen Daji’s face darkened. “Dad, can’t you wish for something good for me for once…”
Deaf Granny was looking older and older. These days, she spent more than half her time lying with her eyes closed under the Little Pine Tree.
Now, seeing Hua Jiunan and Chen Daji, she opened her eyes and revealed a kind smile.
“Oh, wonderful! Both my grandsons are back!”
“Come here to Grandma, quickly. Tell Grandma what you’ve been learning these past few days.”
Chen Daji was well-behaved, crouching beside Deaf Granny like a clingy child and taking over for his father to continue massaging the old woman’s legs.
“Grandma, I’ve learned so much these past few days.”
“Especially math!”
“I’ve basically memorized half of the multiplication tables!”
Hearing this, Chen Fu started cursing. “You little brat, don’t you feel any shame?!”
“You’re in high school and you’ve only memorized half the multiplication tables!”
Deaf Granny gave Chen Fu a harsh glare.
“You’re not allowed to curse at my second grandson in front of me!”
“If you dare curse at him again, this old woman will hit you with her cane!”
Chen Fu hurriedly stopped, sheepishly muttering, “Old Auntie, you’re going to spoil the boy…”
Ignoring Chen Fu, Deaf Granny continued to ask Chen Daji dotingly, “Second grandson, tell Grandma, what’s the use of knowing those multiplication tables?”
Chen Daji quietly made a face at Chen Fu, leaving the latter speechless with anger.
Then he answered Deaf Granny, “Grandma, let me put it this way: once you know the multiplication tables, you don’t even need a calculator to run a convenience store!”
Deaf Granny marveled repeatedly, “Oh my, that’s incredible!”
“My second grandson is going to be a success!”
Basking in the praise, Chen Daji put even more effort into massaging Deaf Granny’s legs.
Chen Fu couldn’t stand Chen Daji’s smug attitude and stomped back into the house.
As he walked, he cursed under his breath, “Little brat, you just wait!”
Although Deaf Granny was up there in years, her hearing was sharp and her eyes were clear. Hearing Chen Fu’s words, she immediately let out a cold snort.
“Fatty, you little brat, who do you think you’re threatening?!”
Chen Fu stumbled and nearly fell.
“Old Auntie, don’t be angry, I was wrong, okay…”
Chen Daji watched this and chuckled inwardly, repeatedly winking at Hua Jiunan.
Just then, the sound of a car suddenly came from outside, and it pulled up right at the entrance to Deaf Granny’s courtyard.
