As soon as Eighth Master Chang finished speaking, black smoke poured from the female ghost’s three severed sections.
When the smoke dispersed, three similar-looking dwarfs stood before Chen Daji.
They resembled old people: two men and one woman, each only half a meter tall and dressed in ragged homespun clothes.

“Where are you looking?!”

“Greetings, you three!”

The three Oldling Spirits did not dare show the slightest disrespect. They immediately straightened their clothes.

The leading Oldling Spirit answered, “Young Master, we are the Great General’s servants.”

As soon as he explained why they had come, everyone got to work.
The three Oldling Spirits took the incense, candles, and offerings Hua Jiunan had brought and arranged them neatly.

Together, they wiped down the Great General’s statue inside the temple.
To say they worked together was not entirely accurate. Eighth Master Chang did most of it.

He would wash his tail in the snow and repeat the process.
Chen Daji watched in admiration.

Eighth Master Chang glowed with pride at the praise and worked even harder.
“Daji, if I keep working this hard, does it count as meritorious service?”
