Chapter 84
Chapter 84
The sight left everyone in the temple dumbstruck. They stared in terror at Zhao Aiguo and his family, who had just come through the door.
Even the elderly abbot, who had been striking the wooden fish and chanting sutras to pray for blessings, stopped. His face turned grave as he looked toward Zhao Fei and recited the Buddha’s name.
“Namo Amitabha.”
“Young benefactor, how could someone so young provoke such a ferocious thing?”
“It even charged into the Buddha’s golden body and drew out the demon that had been suppressed beneath it for a thousand years!”
As the old monk spoke, he took off his kasaya robe and draped it over the base of the Buddha statue.
Still not reassured, he then placed the temple’s golden wooden fish on top of it.
Only then was the crazed laughter from moments ago completely cut off.
A note is needed here:
The monks of Jinguang Temple were not like the fake monks of today, the kind who clock in at the temple during the day and go home at night to hold their wives.
They were cultivators with an ancient inheritance.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Elder Monk Kongchan led Zhao Fei’s family to the rear courtyard.
After the strange phenomena just now, Zhao Aiguo and his wife finally believed what had happened to Zhao Fei.
“Master, please, show mercy and save my son!”
“Once this is over, our Zhao Family will certainly donate more incense money.”
The old monk let out a long sigh and said,
“Namo Amitabha. Female benefactor, you saw what just happened.”
“The incense burner shook, the Vajra cracked-what the young benefactor provoked is far too vicious. This humble temple cannot shelter him!”
At this point, Elder Monk Kongchan’s face filled with worry.
“Namo Amitabha. Not only can this temple not protect the young benefactor, now even we may not be able to protect ourselves!”
Hearing this, Zhao Fei’s Mother became even more terrified.
“Master, have mercy. Please point our family toward a way out!”
The old monk sighed again, recited the Buddha’s name, and fell silent in thought.
It was not that he did not want to help. He truly had no solution at all!
In his desperation, Zhao Fei thought of Hua Jiunan.
“Dad, Mom, we don’t need to beg this useless monk!”
“I have a classmate whose grandmother is the strongest spirit medium disciple there is. Hurry, let’s go find her!”
“As long as she agrees to save me, I won’t die!”
Zhao Aiguo was just about to scold Zhao Fei when the old monk spoke first.
“Namo Amitabha. Young benefactor, are you referring to Deaf Granny?”
Zhao Fei nodded repeatedly. “Yes, that’s her, Deaf Granny!”
“I heard other classmates talk about her!”
Zhao Aiguo perked up as well. “Master, you’ve heard of this person? Does she truly have ability?”
“Namo Amitabha. Deaf Granny’s shrine hall is a sacred place in the hearts of all animal cultivators in the Northern Lands.”
“It is said that the heads of the Hu, Huang, Bai, Chang, Hui Five Great Immortal Families are all honored guests at her seat.”
“If we can invite this female bodhisattva to take action, not only will there be hope of saving the young benefactor, even the demon in our temple may have a chance of being suppressed once more.”
Zhao Fei’s Mother immediately rose to leave.
“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go right now!”
The old monk hurriedly stopped her.
“Female benefactor, please stay calm!”
“The sky is about to darken. When that time comes, the rakshasa evil ghost will surely come to trouble the young benefactor, and the road will be extremely dangerous!”
Zhao Aiguo was far calmer than his wife and quickly asked,
“Master, then what should we do?”
“Namo Amitabha. We can only spend the night in this humble temple. After daybreak, we will set out to seek help.”
That night, none of the seven monks in the temple rested.
Under the old monk’s leadership, they sat cross-legged in the main hall all night, chanting the Vajra Demon-Subduing Mantra.
Zhao Fei’s family curled up at the foot of the Buddha statue, passing the night in fear and unease.
The first half of the night was still all right. There was only the sound of the monks chanting sutras.
But once it reached the latter half of the night, waves of eerie laughter came from outside the temple.
Through the windows, they could vaguely see squads of Ghost Soldiers pacing back and forth.
Yet wary of the Buddha enshrined in the temple, they did not dare enter.
After finally enduring until the roosters crowed and dawn broke, they did not dare delay for even a moment. They immediately drove to Deaf Granny’s house.
After Chen Daji finished listening to the story, his face was full of shock.
“Holy crap, isn’t this bullshit?!”
“We still don’t know how to deal with the Big Zongzi in the ancient tomb, and now there’s another one in the temple!”
