Chapter 68
Just as the tension between the two sides reached a breaking point, Ma Ruidong suddenly came running over from a distance.
“Why aren’t you cleaning? What are you all doing?” he shouted as he ran.
Seeing Ma Ruidong’s arrival, Zhao Fei immediately shot a fierce glare at Hua Jiunan and the others, while whispering a threat to Zhang Shun.
“If he asks about the injuries on your face, you tell him you fell.”
“Otherwise, I’ll beat you every time I see you!”
By then, Ma Ruidong had reached them. Zhao Fei spoke loudly to his followers: “Alright, the cleaning’s done. Let’s go.”
As he passed by Chen Daji, he deliberately slammed his shoulder into him. “Kid, this isn’t over. You’d better watch your backs!”
Ma Ruidong frowned slightly and asked Zhang Shun in a soft voice, “Did they hit you?”
Terrified of Zhao Fei’s retaliation, Zhang Shun hesitated for a moment before choking back tears and insisting he had just fallen.
Ma Ruidong wasn’t stupid; he had already guessed the gist of what happened. However, some things were better left unsaid.
“Sigh, be more careful in the future!”
“Come on, I’ll take you to the Infirmary.”
Ma Ruidong didn’t forget to caution Hua Jiunan and the others: “And you guys, if anything happens in the future, you must tell me immediately. Don’t try to settle things privately.”
“You’ll only end up suffering for it!”
Once Ma Ruidong was far away, the crowd began to disperse.
Chen Daji couldn’t let the resentment go. “Big Brother, is Zhang Shun just going to take that beating for nothing?”
Hua Jiunan gave a cold smile. “Zhao Fei was right about one thing: this isn’t over!”
It went back to his core principle: taking a beating without fighting back was not in Hua Jiunan’s nature.
Chen Daji, Hu Wa, and the others nodded solemnly. “Big Brother, whatever you say, we’ll do!”
“Damn it, if nothing else works, let’s corner him tonight!”
Hua Jiunan wasn’t about to engage in a pyrrhic victory where he’d suffer as much as the enemy. A public brawl would result in a major demerit on their records.
“No rush. A person like Zhao Fei will soon jump out and give us a reason to hit him!”
Xu Fangcao was clearly averse to such violence. “You guys can’t do that!”
“If Zhao Fei looks for trouble again, I… I’ll go report him!”
The relatively petite Li Yun, however, had a more spirited, tomboyish personality. “If they mess with you again, remember to come get me!”
Chen Daji was overjoyed to hear this. He gave Li Yun a sleazy grin and said, “I knew you had feelings for me.”
Li Yun shot him an annoyed look. “You’re overthinking it!”
“I’d help any of us if they were being bullied!”
Chen Daji didn’t care about her rebuttal; he walked back with a face full of bliss. “Heh, women are just shy. She clearly likes me but won’t admit it.”
Two days passed in a flash, and things turned out exactly as Hua Jiunan had anticipated. On the afternoon of Going Home Week, Hu Wa and Zhang Shun ran up to Hua Jiunan, panting for breath.
“Big Brother, we heard Zhao Fei is bringing people to block us on the road. What do we do?”
Upon hearing this, Chen Daji actually looked delighted. “Hahaha! What else can we do? We thrash them!”
“Even if the school investigates, it’ll be self-defense!”
After practicing Tongbei Quan with Hua Jiunan for a week, this kid’s ego had inflated significantly. In Chen Daji’s mind, the current fighting rankings were: Hua Jiunan was number one in the world, he was number two, and that little Taoist priest who once bullied him was number three…
Hu Wa looked at the high-spirited Chen Daji and hesitated. “Brother Daji, but… but…”
Chen Daji grew impatient. “But what? Just say it!”
“But I heard there are a lot of them… over twenty people…”
“Holy crap!” Chen Daji was stunned. “The situation looks grim!”
“How many do we have on our side?”
Zhang Shun looked nervous, nearly on the verge of tears. “Just the four of us. Everyone else already left…”
“Damn! You’ve got to be kidding me!” Chen Daji could only pin his last hopes on Hua Jiunan. “Big Brother, can you take on twenty? We’ll handle the remaining few…”
Hua Jiunan shook his head and said to Chen Daji, “Aside from you, I’ve never fought anyone else. I don’t know how many I can take.”
“However, Grandpa Li said when he was alive: in a fight, it’s not always the side with more people that wins!”
Hearing Hua Jiunan’s words, Chen Daji regained a bit of confidence. But when he looked at the trembling, pale-faced Zhang Shun, that confidence wavered again.
*Damn, we can’t count on this guy. In a moment, it’ll probably be the three of us against twenty.*
*To be more precise, it’ll be twenty-plus people beating the living daylights out of the three of us…*
