Chapter 72

On the other side, after Hua Jiunan and the others left, Zhao Fei and his group were left standing there, trembling with fear.

“What are you just standing there for? Get everyone up!”

Zhao Fei roared at his followers.

“Dammit, Hua Jiunan, Chen Daji… you bastards just wait! This isn’t over!”

One of them said weakly, “Boss, maybe we should just let it go.”

“That Hua Jiunan kid is too tough. We can’t beat him!”

The others nodded one after another, the terror still lingering in their eyes.

Zhao Fei had lost so much face, especially with a girl present. How could he possibly let the matter rest?

“A bunch of useless trash! Shut the hell up!”

“Next time, I won’t use you lot. I’ll bring people from the city!”

“Those guys are real killers who wouldn’t blink an eye!”

Zhao Fei’s words were heard clearly by several small animals watching from a distance.

A weasel, a large rat, two foxes, several snakes, and a few hedgehogs.

The small animals’ eyes were filled with intelligence. They glanced at each other and then scattered in different directions.

A moment later, their kin swarmed toward Zhao Fei and his group like a rising tide.

They came from all over the mountains and fields, seemingly endless.

The crowd let out a series of cries.

“What’s going on? Ow! A rat bit me!”

“Holy crap, my face! My face was poked by a hedgehog!”

“So many weasels and foxes! They’re jumping up to scratch me!”

“Ow, it hurts! Are these snakes poisonous?!”

In an instant, everyone was pounced upon and pinned to the ground by the small animals.

Zhao Fei, who was being given “special attention,” was surrounded by layers upon layers of snakes and rats.

Fortunately, these small animals didn’t want to take any lives, so they didn’t attack any vital spots.

After a moment, a beastly roar echoed from the distance.

As if receiving an order, the small animals retreated as quickly as a receding tide.

They left behind nothing but a mess.

Zhao Fei and the others looked at each other, practically wanting to cry but having no tears left. Not only was everyone injured, but their clothes had been torn into rags that fluttered in the wind.

Even the girl Zhao Fei had brought was in the same state: several hedgehog quills were stuck in her face and backside.

In such a pathetic state, how could they explain this to their parents when they got home?

Could they say they were inexplicably beaten up by a bunch of small animals? Who would believe that?!

Zhao Fei was fuming with rage. “Dammit, can someone tell me what the hell just happened?!”

Just then, one of them suddenly spoke up.

“Zhao Boss, I just remembered something important.”

“I heard that the grandmother of the guy who hit us, Hua Jiunan, is the most powerful spirit medium disciple around here!”

“Could those animals that bit us have come to get revenge for Hua Jiunan?”

This realization gave Zhao Fei a fright. He hurriedly asked, “Are you serious?!”

Another person spoke up to testify, “Zhao Boss, what he said is true!”

“A few years ago, someone in our village was possessed by something evil, and Hua Jiunan’s Grandmother was the one who cured them.”

“The village elders say that within a thousand-mile radius, Hua Jiunan’s Grandmother is the most powerful spirit medium disciple!”

Between what everyone was saying and the “miraculous” encounter they just had, Zhao Fei had no choice but to believe it.

He slumped to the ground, his face full of dejection. “I didn’t expect Hua Jiunan’s backers to be Immortal Spirits. What are we supposed to do now?”

“If he wants to deal with us, it would only take a minute.”

“If nothing else, if he sends rats and snakes to bite us every night, we won’t be able to take it!”

“And if they bite somewhere critical…”

Everyone imagined that scene for a moment. They suddenly felt a chill between their legs and instinctively covered their crotches.

The girl Zhao Fei brought was even more terrified after hearing this.

With a sob in her voice, she said, “Zhao Fei, when Hua Jiunan comes back in a couple of days, let’s go apologize to him.”

“If this keeps up, I’m going to end up disfigured…”

“Sigh, I guess that’s all we can do.” Zhao Fei sighed as he leaned over to pick up the Jade Plug that had fallen on the ground.

The moment he put the blood-stained Jade Plug around his neck, Zhao Fei felt a wave of deathly cold wash over his body.

He couldn’t help but shudder.

“Let’s go, we’re heading back!”

“Don’t go home this week. You’ll just get scolded if you go back looking like this!”

“Clean yourselves up in the dorms, and I’ll take you to buy new clothes.”

The moment the Nine Orifices Jade was stained with blood, a muffled roar echoed from the ancient tomb dozens of kilometers away.

The sound was so loud that it shook the entire tomb, sending dust flying everywhere.

Old Daoist Zhou, who was talking with Professor Ma, was immediately struck with alarm.

“This is bad! The thing inside is waking up!”

Professor Ma was also startled and asked, “Old Friend, you are the Temple Master of our City God Temple and possess profound Daoist arts.”

“What on earth is inside this tomb that could make you so wary?”

Old Daoist Zhou gave a bitter smile.

“Since it’s just the two of us, This Humble Daoist will speak the truth.”

“Based on my observations over the past few days, the layout of this ancient tomb follows the methods of Raising War Corpses from the Taiping Daoist Arts.”

“I suspect the person buried inside is one of those Three Brothers of the Late Han!”

“When they were alive, they used Daoist arts to raise armies and cause chaos. Now that they’ve been buried in a Corpse-Nurturing Ground for over a thousand years, I’m afraid they’re even more formidable!”

At this point, Old Daoist Zhou stood up abruptly.

“This won’t do. I need to apply more Talismans to suppress the ancient tomb.”

“Old Friend, until This Humble Daoist can think of a way to deal with the thing inside, you must not dig any further!”
