Chapter 94

After routing the Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers, the remaining nine Hundred-Battle Warrior Spirits continued feeling their way toward the little courtyard.

They looked just like ordinary people trying to walk through a pitch-black night where they couldn’t see their own hands in front of their faces.

Old Sixth Hui let out a sigh.

“Elder Pine’s cultivation is profound. I can’t compare.”

“These Hundred-Battle Warrior Spirits-I could drive them off or kill them, but I could never make them lose their way so silently and without a trace.”

Hemp-clad Grandmother slowly nodded, clearly in deep agreement.

“To guard his origin, Elder Pine cultivated for ten thousand years without ever moving from his spot or taking human form. That perseverance alone is beyond the likes of us.”

“Ah, ten thousand years of solitude. How many in this world could endure it?”

And so, the Hundred-Battle Warrior Spirits wandered around the courtyard for a very long time, yet still couldn’t find the way in.

It was not until an hour later that a burst of ghostly “chirp, chirp, chirp” cries came from the direction of the ancient tomb.

Two evil ghosts, each over three meters tall, bare-chested with red muscles writhing across their bodies, led a huge swarm of Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers charging toward the courtyard like a tidal wave.

Hemp-clad Grandmother looked at the two towering evil ghosts, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes.

“Yellow Turban Strongmen!”

Old Sixth Hui nodded. “That’s right. One of the three great secret arts of Taiping Dao-the Yellow Turban Strongmen.”

When the nine Hundred-Battle Warrior Spirits saw the Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers had returned for revenge, they decisively retreated without the slightest hesitation.

Using the thick fog as cover, they swiftly vanished into the vast night.

Looking at the densely packed Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers circling the courtyard, Chen Daji felt a little weak in the knees.

Trembling, he asked Hemp-clad Grandmother, “Grandmother, with this many filthy things, can Elder Pine really hold them back?”

Hemp-clad Grandmother chuckled.

“You little brat, quit worrying over nothing!”

“They say enough ants can bite an elephant to death, but no matter how many ants there are, they can’t scratch a mighty dragon in the slightest!”

Things turned out exactly as Hemp-clad Grandmother said.

The Little Pine Tree in the courtyard remained as calm and detached as ever, as if everything outside had nothing to do with him.

Outside the courtyard, thousands of Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers continued to circle blindly around the place, looking for all the world like blindfolded donkeys turning a millstone.

As time passed, a rooster crowed somewhere in the village. Dawn was about to break.

No matter how fierce a ghost might be, if it didn’t have an official post granted by Heaven and Earth to protect it, it could not endure sunlight.

Because of that, the mob of Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers immediately tried to return to the ancient tomb.

But to their horror, they discovered that no matter how they ran, they were still circling in place.

They couldn’t enter the courtyard, and they couldn’t leave the few meters surrounding it either.

The two Yellow Turban Strongmen pounded their chests and roared in frustration, but all they could do was panic. They had no solution whatsoever.

A few Ghost Soldiers who seemed to be leaders gathered together and discussed things with a series of “chirp, chirp, chirp” noises.

Then they led all the Yellow Turban Ghost Soldiers in kowtowing madly toward the courtyard.

Even the two towering Yellow Turban Strongmen were no exception.

Chen Daji didn’t understand what was going on and asked foolishly, “What’s wrong with them?”

“Did they realize they can’t rob us, so now they’re kowtowing and begging for food instead?”

Old Sixth Hui gave a sly smile.

“Mm, that’s exactly it.”

“Why aren’t you hurrying outside to bring them something to eat?”

Chen Daji froze. “O-Old Immortal, I haven’t read many books. Don’t you lie to me!”

“If I really go out there, won’t I be like a meat bun thrown at a dog-gone for good?”

Hemp-clad Grandmother shot Old Sixth Hui a reproachful glance.

“You’re still the head of a household, aren’t you? Why are you always teasing my second grandson for no reason?”

“He’s not that bright to begin with. If you keep teasing him, won’t he just get dumber?”

After saying that, Hemp-clad Grandmother turned and started scolding Chen Daji.

“And you too. Of all the people you could offend, why did you have to offend Old Sixth Hui?”

“Ever heard the saying ‘as petty as a rat’s belly or a chicken’s gut’? This fellow really holds a grudge!”

“You’d better stay far away from Old Sixth Hui from now on, or sooner or later he’ll toy you to death!”

Chen Daji was almost in tears after hearing that.

“Grandmother, I didn’t even say anything much. I just asked Old Immortal Hui why he doesn’t sleep at night…”

“I’ll apologize! I’ll make amends, all right?!”

Old Sixth Hui chuckled and slowly held up three fingers.

“The apology isn’t important. The amends are the key!”

“I want three cartloads of spicy strips. The big packs!”

“Otherwise, this isn’t over!”

When Chen Daji heard that demand, he let out a long sigh of relief.

In his heart, he secretly looked down on him.

I thought it was going to be some huge demand. It’s just three cartloads of spicy strips?!

Look at you, acting like you’ve never seen the world!

That was what Chen Daji thought, but he wouldn’t dare say it out loud.

“Deal!”

“Old Immortal, it’s settled!”

“Forget three cartloads or four. I’ll give you six, sir. I’ll take care of it as soon as day breaks!”

After Chen Daji finished speaking, the two of them even solemnly clapped hands three times.

“Old Immortal, about me saying the wrong thing earlier, we’re wiping the slate clean right here. You can’t come after me later to settle accounts.”

Old Sixth Hui nodded repeatedly.

“Of course.”

“Our clan may have lowly lives, but we know the difference between gratitude and grudges.”

“Anyone who’s shown us kindness…” As Old Sixth Hui said this, he unconsciously glanced at Hua Jiunan.

“Anyone who’s shown us kindness-we’ll repay them even if it costs us our lives!”
