Chapter 77
Chapter 77
After some deliberation, the group decided to head into the mountains immediately to search for the Snow Corpse.
Chen Fu changed into a down jacket, intending to go with them.
“When you’re asking for a favor, you have to show proper respect.”
“It’s a pity time is so tight; I didn’t have time to prepare any gifts.”
Chen Daji chimed in, “What gifts do you need? I’ll just carry a box of spicy strips on my back!”
Chen Fu gave Chen Daji a sharp rap on the head, making the boy grimace in pain.
“Get the hell out of here!”
“A box of spicy strips? Why don’t you just carry a bag of chemical fertilizer!”
Chen Fu drove them to the foot of the snow-capped mountain, where the group began their ascent on foot.
The others were fine, but the portly Chen Fu was soon gasping for breath.
“Damn it, when I get back, I’m sending people over to build a road!”
“In the village and in the mountains!”
Chang Huaiyuan smiled upon hearing this. “Building bridges and repairing roads-this is a truly virtuous deed!”
The General’s Temple was located in the deepest part of the snowy mountains. At Chen Fu’s pace, they wouldn’t arrive even by nightfall.
Left with no choice, Chang Huaiyuan had to summon Eighth Master Chang to serve as a mount.
Chen Fu climbed onto Eighth Master Chang’s back with trepidation, and the group’s speed increased significantly.
It could be described as lightning-fast.
Feeling the powerful wind whipping against his face, Chen Daji was incredibly excited.
“Eighth Master, your speed is faster than my family’s car!”
Eighth Master Chang was someone who thrived on attention. Flattered by Chen Daji’s sycophancy, he pushed himself even faster!
This, however, spelled misery for Chen Fu.
Before long, he began to retch.
Not wanting to soil Eighth Master Chang, Chen Fu had to take off his down jacket and vomit into it.
Chen Daji watched, stunned. “Dad, did you drink too much this morning?”
Chen Fu cursed at him irritably, “Drink too much, my ass!”
“I’m motion sick!”
“Blegh…”
In less than half an hour, the group arrived before the dilapidated General’s Temple.
The statues inside the temple were in ruins due to years of neglect.
Dust covered the floor, and cobwebs draped across the walls.
Hua Jiunan and the others gave the place a thorough cleaning before calling out for the Snow Corpse.
“Mother, Uncle Snow Corpse, I’ve come!”
Hua Jiunan explained the situation in detail, but unfortunately, there was no response.
Old Sixth Hui sighed.
“Sigh, it seems the Great General is not here!”
Chang Huaiyuan fell into deep thought.
“Logically, the Great General shouldn’t leave his place of Fengzheng for long.”
“Could there be some reason we’re unaware of?”
Though disappointed that he couldn’t ask the Snow Corpse for help, Chen Fu still bowed respectfully to the statue.
“Great General, sorry for the intrusion today.”
“You’re Jiunan’s uncle, so that makes us of the same generation.”
“We’re all relatives. Once I get back, I’ll have people come and renovate this place for you.”
Chen Fu was generous and loyal, a man of his word.
He truly followed through. Not only did he immediately hire people to rebuild the General’s Temple, but he also had an asphalt road paved right to its entrance.
From then on, villagers flocked to offer sacrifices to the Snow Corpse, and the temple’s incense offerings flourished.
This act of Chen Fu’s inadvertently provided immense help to the Snow Corpse.
One could even say it saved the Snow Corpse’s life.
He sowed good seeds and reaped good fruit: after the Snow Corpse returned from the Yin-Yang Realm, he immediately became sworn brothers with Chen Fu.
The Chen family would be protected by the Snow Corpse for three generations.
As for what the Snow Corpse was doing in the Yin-Yang Realm and why he clashed with the ghost guards, that will be explained later in the story.
Unable to find the Snow Corpse, the group had no choice but to return.
On the way back, Eighth Master Chang slowed down, fearing Chen Fu would vomit on him.
A day passed in the blink of an eye, and the driver arrived to take Hua Jiunan and Chen Daji back to school.
Chen Fu stayed behind at Deaf Granny’s house.
As soon as the two reached the school gates, they saw Zhao Fei and his girlfriend waiting for them.
Chen Daji was startled by Zhao Fei’s appearance.
Zhao Fei, who had been incredibly fat and ruddy-faced, was now as gaunt as a withered stick.
In particular, the dark circles around his eyes were enough to give someone a fright at night!
Chen Daji looked at Zhao Fei, then at his girlfriend, clearly letting his mind wander into the gutter.
“Holy crap, have you been busy these past two nights?”
“Take it easy, man. Your body’s been completely hollowed out!”
Zhao Fei was in no mood for nonsense. He spoke to Hua Jiunan with a listless spirit.
“Hua Boss, I know I was wrong. I really know I was wrong!”
“Please, be the bigger man and forgive me!”
“Don’t let those Immortal Spirits come and deal with me at night anymore!”
Hua Jiunan was stunned. “Immortal Spirits dealing with you? Be specific.”
Zhao Fei didn’t dare hesitate and immediately blurted out:
“Every night for the past two days, rats and weasels have been coming to bite me. They won’t let me sleep at all.”
“Fortunately, the Immortal Spirits are reasonable; they didn’t bite my face. But my butt and thighs are all bitten raw!”
“After I begged and pleaded to send those Immortal Spirits away, a squad of Ghost Soldiers showed up in the middle of the night.”
“They were carrying all sorts of weapons, patrolling right outside my dorm door.”
At this point, Zhao Fei was on the verge of tears.
“Hua Boss, please, be the bigger man and just let me go!”
“I’ll never dare to mess with you again!”
