Chapter 83
Chapter 83
On the other side.
Yingying and Little Shota were taken away.
They sat in a luxury sedan as it drove away from the Orphanage.
Even after they left the vicinity of the Orphanage, the expected thunderstorm did not let up. On the contrary, the rain outside the window seemed to pour down even more violently. The rainwater struck the glass like drumbeats-*patter, patter, patter*.
The rapid sound felt like a celebration, yet also like a warning.
Before long, the black sedan slowly entered the Binjiang Villa District and came to a stop in front of a white villa.
“Yingying, Yangyang, you two go inside with Aunt Diao first. I’m going to the garage to park the car,” Mr. Rat turned around and instructed them.
“Okay~ Thank you, Uncle,” Yingying replied sweetly. She pushed open the car door and stepped out.
Little Shota followed her.
Mrs. Rat walked ahead, leading the two children to the main entrance on the first floor. She took out a ring of keys and opened the outermost door-a luxurious, carved white door-before proceeding to unlock the security door behind it.
Once the security door was open, there was one final iron gate inside.
Seeing these “three layers of protection,” Yingying’s expression shifted slightly.
“There have been a lot of thefts in the Binjiang Villa District lately. Your Uncle Diao specifically hired a professional to install these security doors.”
Mrs. Rat gave a motherly smile and offered an explanation to the children.
Yingying suppressed the suspicion in her eyes. Her eyes curved into a smile as she nodded obediently. “I see, Auntie. I understand.”
Mrs. Rat patted Yingying’s head and gave her a mock-reproachful look. “Still calling me Auntie?”
Yingying was even more cooperative than expected.
In a cutesy, sweet voice, she blushed and shyly called out, “Mom.”
Beaming with joy, Mrs. Rat led the two of them into the house.
The interior was exceptionally dark, as if every window had been boarded up. Just as Yingying began to feel that something was wrong, Mrs. Rat flipped the light switch with a *click*.
In an instant, every light in the villa, large and small, flickered on.
The entire house brightened immediately.
The two children gasped in awe at the interior decor. The inside was magnificent, decorated in a consistent European style. A chandelier hung high from the ceiling of the hall, stretching over two meters long. There was also a grand spiral staircase connecting the second and third floors.
This environment was worlds apart from the dilapidated wooden buildings of the Orphanage. It was only natural for two children to react this way upon seeing such things for the first time.
Mrs. Rat ushered Yingying and Yangyang over, telling them to sit and rest in the Living Room. Then, she pressed a remote to turn on the television for them.
“Children, watch some cartoons for a bit. Mom is going to the Kitchen to boil two glasses of hot milk for you. You need to warm up on a rainy day like this.”
After giving her instructions, Mrs. Rat turned and headed into the Kitchen with a smile.
Yingying and Yangyang sat down to watch TV. Halfway through the program, the villa suddenly went dark with a loud *boom*.
It became so dark they couldn’t even see their own hands in front of them.
“Mom, is it a power outage?” Yingying called out loudly toward the Kitchen.
Mrs. Rat’s voice drifted back, sounding anxious.
“Oh dear! Some water must have hit a socket and tripped the breaker, honey. Just a moment, Mom will take care of it!”
Inside the villa, it was so dark that nothing could be seen. It felt somewhat eerie. Yingying instinctively leaned toward Little Shota and grabbed his arm.
Her gaze was suddenly drawn to a red light in the darkness.
In the pitch-black environment, there was a single door with a sliver of red light leaking through the crack.
“Yangyang, look over there… What’s in that room?” Yingying whispered.
She tugged on the Little Shota’s sleeve, her heart racing with an inexplicable nervousness.
The Little Shota glanced in that direction. “I don’t know. Let’s go check it out.”
The two exchanged a few quiet words.
In the back of his mind, the Little Shota was still thinking about what the Black Kid had told him before he left the Orphanage.
He had said that this couple was a bit strange.
“Yangyang, you lead the way,” Yingying said, giving him a small nudge.
In this dark, silent house, the beam of red light peeking through the door crack held a strange, magnetic pull.
Both children had guessed it.
That place… likely hid some kind of secret.
Perhaps there really was something wrong with this couple.
But until they saw it with their own eyes, neither dared to jump to conclusions.
Driven by curiosity, Yangyang and Yingying crept forward, one after the other, slowly closing the distance.
They reached the door.
Yangyang took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
The room was bathed in a crimson glow, and an Aberrational scene came into view.
Dolls… so many dolls.
They were all fake, their eyes lifeless, unmoving and silent.
Every doll had a name and a birth date written on its body.
Closest to the door were the shriveled skins of two dolls.
The skins were spread out across the floor.
From the looks of it, one was a boy and the other was a girl.
These two skins didn’t have names or birth dates written on them yet.
In the very center of the room stood two enlarged funeral portraits.
The faces in these portraits belonged to none other than Mr. Rat and Mrs. Rat.
Yingying and Yangyang held their breath, not daring to make a sound.
“Yangyang, maybe… we should run,” Yingying’s voice was incredibly low. Despite her best efforts to suppress it, the panic was unmistakable.
Yangyang looked at the two funeral portraits. The glass panels reflected two tall, slowly approaching silhouettes.
“It’s too late,” the Little Shota’s heart sank.

Back at the Sunshine Orphanage.
The Black Kid froze the moment he saw the white hand reaching out from the Funeral Hall. His mind went completely blank.
He dropped the handkerchief and grabbed Jiang Li, trying to pull her away.
But Jiang Li didn’t budge.
Jiang Li had her own ideas.
There were many things you would never learn the truth about unless you faced them head-on.
Today was a perfect opportunity to explore the Funeral Hall; she couldn’t let it slip by.
Jiang Li reached out, took down the slip of paper, and unfolded it.
[Sunshine Orphanage – Funeral Hall Rules]
[1. Before entering the Funeral Hall, you must knock on the door three times and wait in place for 10 seconds. Remember, entering the room directly will lead to terrible consequences!]
[2. There are no electric lights in the room. If you require illumination, please instruct the “White Dummy” to light a Red Candle for you.]
[3. Please do not speak to the “Black Dummy.” He likes to eat children who “respond to him.”]
[4. The food and bed in the room are prepared specifically for you. If you feel hungry or tired while inside, please use them freely.]
[5. If you are a living person, you must leave the room before 18:00. If you are a dead person, feel free to stay as long as you like.]
[6. There are two dolls being worshipped in the room; one is red and the other is green. If you find that both have turned red, please leave the room immediately by any means possible!]
