Chapter 100
Chapter 100
The girl appeared to be about seventeen or eighteen years old.
Her body drifted horizontally through the air, her white skirt billowing as if caught in a phantom breeze.
She was currently facing Jiang Li, her mouth agape and dripping with blood.
Based on the distance, the girl’s jagged teeth were mere inches away from sinking into Jiang Li’s nose.
At the very moment the girl was about to bite down, she found herself staring into a pair of eyes that had lost all focus.
Jiang Li’s pupils were dilated, her gaze vacant.
By now, Jiang Li had already reached out, her hand groping along the wall for support.
Acting as if nothing had happened, Jiang Li casually tucked the note into her pocket.
Then, with both hands braced against the blood-stained tiles, she used her feet to feel out the path ahead, shuffling forward slowly.
Jiang Li’s behavior caused a flicker of doubt to arise within the girl.
She scratched her head in confusion, retracted her fangs, and descended from mid-air, her bare feet touching the floor.
The moment she landed, the girl’s appearance shifted.
She wiped away the bloody, ghostly mask.
Now, she looked exactly like a pitiful young girl.
The only jarring detail was the pair of eyes in her sockets.
No matter how one looked at them, they didn’t seem to belong to her.
“Sister, can you see me?” the girl asked, her voice sweet and melodic.
She was questioning Jiang Li.
Jiang Li tilted her head slightly, her gaze remaining in that “unfocused” state.
In her mind, Jiang Li silently recited the third rule of the 5th Floor Rules:
[The Thing in the Hot Spring Pool is very dangerous. Whatever you do, do not let it know you can see it.]
This rule was real.
Jiang Li managed a small smile and shook her head at the girl. “I can’t see anything.”
“Really?” The girl didn’t seem convinced.
She thought for a moment, then went to a corner and dismantled a mop.
Taking the wooden handle, the girl dragged the stick across the floor as she walked up to Jiang Li.
“But why do I… find that… hard… to… believe!”
The girl spoke through gritted teeth.
Raising the wooden stick with both hands, she aimed for Jiang Li’s eyes and swung with vicious force!
The stick cut through the air with a sharp *whoosh*.
The resulting gust of wind blew the stray hairs back from Jiang Li’s temples.
Jiang Li’s clenched fists tightened instinctively!
She couldn’t flinch.
The rules were very clear.
In this confrontation, only those who “could see” would be harmed.
As long as Jiang Li convinced this thing that she was blind, she would be safe!
The stick stopped with a *whoosh* directly in front of Jiang Li’s eyeballs, exactly three millimeters away.
It had even brushed against her eyelashes.
Yet, Jiang Li stubbornly refused to blink.
When faced with an object attacking the eyes, blinking is the most basic physiological response.
Suppressing that reflex was no easy feat.
To keep herself from blinking, Jiang Li dug her fingernails so hard into her palms that they nearly pierced the skin.
Seeing Jiang Li’s reaction, the expression on the girl’s face underwent a subtle change.
She lowered the stick. “You really can’t see?”
Jiang Li gave a faint smile. “What do you think?”
“Alright then.”
The girl tossed the stick aside and clapped her hands.
Then, she stepped forward affectionately and took Jiang Li by the arm.
“Sister, you have it so hard. You’re blind and you still have to work as a server.”
Hearing the girl’s words, Jiang Li’s lip twitched.
This kid… really had a way with words.
Was she trying to bait her?
Jiang Li wasn’t falling for it.
She responded calmly, “Work isn’t hard. It’s my life that’s hard.”
Upon hearing this, the girl finally stopped scrutinizing Jiang Li.
She led Jiang Li toward the Staff Hot Spring Area.
Arriving before a row of shoe lockers, the girl crouched down.
She said sweetly, “Sister, take off your shoes. I’ll help you change into slippers.”
“Then I’ll trouble you,” Jiang Li replied. She leaned against a locker and pulled off her shoes.
Just as Jiang Li finished, she heard the girl let out a startled cry.
“Oh dear! We’re all out of slippers over here. Sister, come with me to the other side; I remember there are some in the cabinet over there.”
After speaking, the girl stood up.
She reached out to support Jiang Li, leading her forward barefoot.
From Jiang Li’s perspective, the path ahead was maliciously covered in thumbtacks.
The silver tips of those tacks gleamed with a sharp brilliance.
If someone were to step on them barefoot, the sensation would be excruciating.
Jiang Li suddenly understood why the girl had told her to take off her shoes earlier.
So, this was the main event.
“Sister, let’s hurry,” the girl beside her urged.
Her eyes shimmered with excitement.
If this were a person with normal vision, there was no way they could step on them with a clear conscience.
She had tested this many times before.
No one could pass this trial.
The girl carefully observed the changes in Jiang Li’s expression.
To her disappointment, however, Jiang Li showed no reaction at all.
Right in front of the girl, Jiang Li extended her fair right foot and stepped down without batting an eye.
The thumbtacks pierced into her flesh, but Jiang Li felt no pain whatsoever.
Meanwhile, back in a hospital in Huaguo, Jiang Lianlian-who had just been resuscitated-let out a blood-curdling scream.
Jiang Lianlian, who had only just regained consciousness with great difficulty, fainted from the pain once again.
Inside the world of the Aberration.
After stepping on the thumbtacks, Jiang Li feigned a hiss of pain.
“…It hurts. Did I step on something?” Jiang Li frowned.
This was the reaction of a normal blind person.
A blind person simply cannot see; it doesn’t mean their pain receptors are malfunctioning.
“Really? Let me see.” The girl beside her deliberately leaned down to look.
“There’s nothing on the floor, Sister. You’re just imagining things.”
Jiang Li’s lips twitched into a stiff smile.
The cold thumbtacks were still embedded in the soles of Jiang Li’s feet.
All of the damage was being transferred entirely to Jiang Lianlian.
Jiang Li offered a silent second of mourning for Jiang Lianlian in her heart.
It wasn’t that Jiang Li was intentionally refusing to pull out the tacks to torture Jiang Lianlian.
Jiang Li wanted to pull them out herself, but this damn place wouldn’t let her, so there was nothing she could do.
While walking with these things in her feet was quite uncomfortable, she would just have to find a solution later.
Barefoot and treading on thumbtacks, Jiang Li walked across that bloody path.
Upon reaching the shoe cabinet on the other side, the girl grabbed a pair of slippers for Jiang Li to wear and handed her a bag of clothes.
“Sister, these are disposable robes. You can wear these to the hot springs. The changing rooms are to the right; go on by yourself.”
Having finished her instructions, the girl couldn’t be bothered to wait on Jiang Li any longer.
She plopped down behind the counter and began playing with a pile of eyeballs in the drawer.
“Alright, thank you.”
Jiang Li thanked her, then clutched the clothes and fumbled her way toward the changing rooms alone.
Along the way, Jiang Li saw many corpses strewn about.
Many were stinking, rotting, and even crawling with maggots.
Cadaveric fluid leaked everywhere.
The only thing these corpses had in common was that their Eyes had been gouged out.
Jiang Li walked to the door of the first changing room.
The first one happened to be unlocked.
Jiang Li gave it a gentle push.
The small door opened with a creak.
Jiang Li took a step inside but suddenly paused.
As the changing room door swung open, what met her sight was a hanging corpse.
This female corpse was the very same girl from a moment ago.
The corpse was wearing the same black staff uniform as Jiang Li.
She had once been one of the servers who came to the 5th floor.
Unable to escape and fed up with a life of blindness, she had ultimately ended her life in the changing room.
The dead girl had voluntarily become an NPC of the Aberration world.
By murdering other servers and gouging out their Eyes, she traded for her own illusory sight.
