Chapter 76
Chapter 76
Flickering flashes of lightning illuminated Aunt Xiaoyu’s face.
Aunt Xiaoyu’s Eyes were fixed intently on Jiang Li.
With tears welling in her eyes, she shook her head desperately at Jiang Li.
Judging by the shape of her mouth, Jiang Li could tell that Aunt Xiaoyu was telling her, “Don’t come out.”
The balcony counted as being outdoors!
Aunt Xiaoyu had died because she violated the rule about “not going out alone.”
Jiang Li watched the scene outside through the glass window, her heart turning cold.
Aunt Xiaoyu, the one who “put the children first,” was dead.
This meant the difficulty of clearing this Instance had just escalated!
It even blocked Jiang Li’s path of “seeking help from Aunt Xiaoyu.”
Jiang Li’s thoughts were a tangled mess.
The next second, a bolt of lightning flashed.
A deathly pale face appeared, magnified right before Jiang Li’s eyes.
The person’s face was as white as paper.
The eye sockets were hollow black pits, devoid of eyeballs.
It was currently pressed tight against the glass window, grinning freakishly, face-to-face with Jiang Li.
Jiang Li’s heart skipped a beat.
She moved her feet quickly, stepping down from the footstool.
After confirming the window was locked tight, Jiang Li pulled the blackout curtains shut and took a quick shower.
Jiang Li had originally thought she would have to wear her dirty clothes out after this shower.
But just then, a knock came from the door.
*Knock, knock-*
“Xiao Li, open the door. I’m handing you some clean clothes.”
Hearing that familiar voice… Jiang Li felt her scalp go numb!
It was Aunt Xiaoyu’s voice.
But this person wasn’t Aunt Xiaoyu.
Aunt Xiaoyu had been replaced by an Aberration!
The candle in the Toilet was currently lit, so this wasn’t Jiang Li’s hallucination.
Right now, Jiang Li hadn’t violated any rules.
Therefore, even if Aunt Xiaoyu was an Aberration, she shouldn’t be able to harm her.
Thinking of this, Jiang Li unlatched the door.
The door creaked open slightly.
A pale hand reached through the gap.
Jiang Li took the clothes and was about to close the door.
But half of Aunt Xiaoyu’s ghostly head had already squeezed inside.
Jiang Li’s heart tightened. She took half a step back and-*Bam!*-kicked the door hard.
“Agh!!” a miserable shriek rang out.
Aunt Xiaoyu clutched her head in pain, her face twisting as she retracted her neck.
Before leaving, Aunt Xiaoyu gave Jiang Li a vicious glare.
If it weren’t for the necessity of following the rules, Aunt Xiaoyu would have loved to devour Jiang Li on the spot!
Seeing Aunt Xiaoyu leave, Jiang Li quickly locked the door.
She scrambled into her clothes, picked up the candle, and left the Toilet.
The dark dormitory was illuminated by the candlelight.
Jiang Li could sense two malicious gazes coming from among the group.
Rule 6 of the Cabin Rules:
[Within the dormitory, there is one and only one who is not human. Please distinguish carefully.]
This rule had surely changed by now.
When Jiang Li first stepped into the dormitory, it was true.
But now, this true rule had likely become false.
In this dormitory, there were two who were not human.
One was Aunt Xiaoyu.
The other was unknown.
Jiang Li observed the other three children in the room.
One was a Little Fatty Girl with an amputated right leg.
One was a Little Shota who always wore a black mask.
And the last one was a Black Kid who liked to jump around and shout like a Monkey-like Kid.
Aside from the Little Fatty Girl’s physical disability, which Jiang Li could see at a glance, she didn’t know what physical defects the other two had.
In short, among these three children, one was a ghost.
Jiang Li pushed her thoughts aside and walked further into the room.
In this dormitory, the left side was lined with storage cubbies, and the right side was a large communal bed.
The communal bed had five sleeping spots in total, four of which were occupied.
Only one empty spot remained, situated between Aunt Xiaoyu and the Little Fatty Girl.
If she wasn’t mistaken, this should be the little girl Lili’s spot.
Jiang Li walked over toward it.
She dripped a drop of wax onto the storage cabinet opposite her and then stood the candle upright.
Immediately after, she turned around, walked straight to the vacant bunk, and crawled under the covers.
Throughout this, Aunt Xiaoyu, whose head had been caught in the door earlier, stared at Jiang Li without blinking.
The resentment in her gaze was completely undisguised.
At that moment, the sounds of playfulness nearby caught Jiang Li’s attention.
“Hey, look! I found a hole in this wall!”
The Black Kid pointed at a small hole in the wall, gesturing for everyone to come and see.
The Little Shota took a solemn look. “I knew about that already. This whole wall is full of holes.”
Hearing this, Jiang Li glanced at the wall by the head of her bed.
There were indeed quite a few small holes.
Each hole was about the size of a coin.
The Black Kid continued to shout:
“But the inside of this hole is red! It’s so cool!”
The Black Kid closed one eye and leaned close to the small hole, looking inside with excitement.
Jiang Li also took a distant glance.
Indeed, almost all the small holes across the wall were red inside.
What was on the other side of that wall?
Jiang Li recalled Rule 5 of the Cabin Rules:
[The last room on the Third Floor is the Funeral Hall.]
Calculating the orientation, the room next door should be the Funeral Hall.
“Aunt Xiaoyu, you never told us which dormitory is next door. Are they having a party?”
The Black Kid asked Aunt Xiaoyu without looking up, his attention entirely focused on the small hole.
The corners of Aunt Xiaoyu’s mouth curled into a smile. “No one lives next door.
Next door, there is only a group of dead people with Red Eye Disease.”
There was a two-second silence.
Once he processed the words, the Black Kid’s spine stiffened.
That meant that on the other side of these holes, there were the prying Eyes of those with Red Eye Disease!
The Black Kid seemed to be affected by something.
It was as if he had been frightened; his emotions suddenly became agitated, and he couldn’t catch his breath. Clutching his chest, he collapsed onto the bed in distress.
“Aunt Xiaoyu! Zhuangzhuang is having an asthma attack!!” the Little Fatty Girl cried out in alarm.
Only then did Jiang Li realize.
So the Black Kid’s “physical defect” was asthma!
The three children in the room turned their heads simultaneously, looking toward Aunt Xiaoyu for help.
To their surprise, Aunt Xiaoyu simply pursed her lips and lay back in her bed as if it were none of her business.
Rule 8 of the Cabin Rules:
[The Caregiver will always put the children first, unless she is already dead.]
The Caregiver of this dormitory was already dead!
The Aunt Xiaoyu before them was an Aberration.
An Aberration would wish for nothing more than for another person to die; why would it ever step in to help?
Seeing Aunt Xiaoyu remain indifferent, the Little Fatty Girl and the Little Shota exchanged a glance before shifting their gaze to Jiang Li.
Jiang Li was almost seven years old, making her the oldest child in the dormitory.
“Sister Lili, Zhuangzhuang is going to die! Please help him!”
The Little Fatty Girl grabbed Jiang Li’s hand, her eyes red as if she were about to cry.
Jiang Li looked over.
The Black Kid, Zhuangzhuang, lay on the bed in agony.
His limbs were twitching, and a sharp wheezing sound came from his mouth and nose.
Jiang Li’s brow furrowed.
She quickly found a piece of paper and a pen and wrote down a single word: “Medicine!”
The Little Fatty Girl and the Little Shota shook their heads at the same time.
They didn’t know either.
“Aunt Xiaoyu is the one in charge of the medicine,” the Little Shota said.
At that moment.
Aunt Xiaoyu, who had been silent, finally spoke.
“The medicine is in his clothes pocket,” Aunt Xiaoyu said calmly.
Jiang Li stepped quickly to Zhuangzhuang’s side and searched through his pockets.
She emptied all four pockets, finding a messy pile of items, but there was no medicine.
Realizing she had been played, Jiang Li looked up at Aunt Xiaoyu.
Meeting Jiang Li’s gaze, Aunt Xiaoyu slapped her forehead with a look of sudden realization.
“Oh! I washed Zhuangzhuang’s clothes last time and forgot to check the pockets.
Zhuangzhuang’s medicine… should be in his previous set of clothes, right? The clothes are hanging out on the balcony to dry.”
Aunt Xiaoyu pointed toward the balcony.
On her face was a malicious smile.
