Chapter 110
Chapter 110
From a distance, Jiang Li watched as the Man from Room 404, after a bout of bitter weeping, dove headfirst into the pile of trash in the hallway.
As if suffering a seizure, he began frantically stuffing trash into his mouth.
He kept apologizing incessantly through a mouthful of filth:
“Sob… I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I’ll eat it, I’ll eat it all up…”
The Man from Room 404 ate with astonishing speed.
In the blink of an eye, he had already cleared a small mound of refuse.
Meanwhile, the belly of the Man from Room 404, which had previously shriveled up, began to swell once more.
Jiang Li saw that things were taking a turn for the worse.
If she allowed this “monster” to keep eating, he would likely become too large to fit into the elevator again.
Jiang Li tentatively stepped forward, wearing her professional fake smile.
“Sir, there’s even more food over by the Elevator Entrance. How about I lead you there?”
The Man from Room 404 looked at her with a vacant gaze.
He shoved another mouthful of trash into his face and gave a dull, wooden nod.
Jiang Li walked ahead, maintaining a safe distance from the man as she guided him toward the Elevator Entrance.
However, the Room 404 Guest showed no intention of entering the elevator.
He simply crouched in the trash pile next to it, using both hands to shovel food into his mouth in a frenzy.
“Sir, do you want to leave the hotel?” Jiang Li asked him.
The man shook his head repeatedly, his tone sounding somewhat demented:
“I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving… Must eat, the food is delicious…”
Jiang Li had asked this same question-“Do you want to leave?”-when the man was fat.
Back then, the man had said, “I want to leave, but I’m too fat to fit in the elevator.”
Now that he had finally managed to lose weight, he had suddenly changed his mind.
In his thin state, the man’s consciousness seemed extremely disordered.
He didn’t even care what he was eating, as long as he could fill his stomach.
Jiang Li could infer that while the Room 404 Guest was thin, his mind was being controlled.
When thin, he had no desire to leave.
His mind held only one thought: eat.
However, once his weight exceeded the elevator’s weight limit, the Man from Room 404 would regain his sanity.
But at that point, even if he wanted to leave, his physical size would restrict him, making escape impossible.
Thus, the Room 404 Guest was doomed to be imprisoned on the 4th floor forever.
Until eventually, he would completely mutate into a monster.
Once Jiang Li had reasoned this out, she made a trip to the Kitchen.
She grabbed a half-meter-long rolling pin and, taking advantage of the man’s current state of mental confusion, knocked him unconscious with a single blow.
Jiang Li dragged the unconscious man into the Guest Elevator.
The Elevator Attendant inside was an older middle-aged woman, roughly in her forties.
There was a large, dark blue birthmark on the woman’s forehead.
“Hello, please take the guest to the 1st floor,” Jiang Li said.
Just as she finished giving the instruction, she saw the woman’s expression twitch.
The pained, twitching expression lasted for a second before the woman’s lips curled into a smile again.
She smiled for half a second, then suddenly looked miserable once more.
Two different emotions flickered across her face in alternation.
This bizarre process lasted for two to three seconds.
Finally, it settled into a forced smile.
“Certainly,” the woman agreed with a bitter smile.
Jiang Li gave her a strange look, nodded, and stepped out of the Guest Elevator.
As Jiang Li exited the Guest Elevator, the doors of the adjacent Staff Elevator happened to close.
Two figures flashed by inside the elevator.
Someone from the staff was leaving the 4th floor?
Was it the new Cook?
Filled with speculation, Jiang Li returned to her Staff Lounge.
She planned to get some sleep to recover her energy.
She had already obtained the Positive Review for the 4th floor and sent the guest away.
It was currently the middle of the night.
Therefore, the matter of going downstairs could wait until tomorrow.
While Jiang Li slept, bouts of snoring drifted from the room next door.
The Cook was also sleeping soundly, drool trickling from his mouth…
The next day.
Jiang Li was woken up by her internal clock at 6:00 AM.
She packed up quickly, took her Elevator Card to the lower floors, and headed for the Staff Elevator.
Jiang Li entered the Staff Elevator.
The moment she stepped inside-
A layer of ancient dust shook loose from the walls of the 4th floor.
The dark red lights in the corridor flickered out simultaneously.
Everything that had existed on the 4th floor began to decay and age at a speed visible to the naked eye.
It was as if the floor had been abandoned for decades.
At the same time, a seal appeared once more:
“Floor sealed, awaiting renovation and upgrades…”
Inside the Staff Elevator, Jiang Li watched the transformation outside with a cold gaze.
The Elevator Attendant with Bangs stared back at her with equal coldness.
Sensing the unfriendly stare, Jiang Li glanced at her.
The Elevator Attendant raised her sleeve and wiped a bloodstain from the corner of her mouth.
She seemed to be clutching something in her hand.
It looked like… an ear.
A very familiar-looking ear.
A few drops of dried blood remained on the floor.
The Elevator Attendant bared her teeth, her tone laced with a hint of malice.
“Which floor? Show your Elevator Card.”
Jiang Li didn’t say a word, handing the card over directly.
The Elevator Attendant took the card and swiped it with a “beep.”
The button for the “3rd Floor” lit up.
*Ding-dong-*
The elevator doors opened.
Jiang Li stepped out.
The resentful gaze behind her only slowly vanished once the elevator doors slid shut.
In the middle of the 3rd Floor corridor, Jiang Li found a Name Tag.
She picked it up and looked at it.
In the name column, the words “Jiang Li” were clearly written.
“Give my Name Tag back to me,” a familiar female voice rang out.
Jiang Li turned around to see a face identical to her own.
However, Jiang Li’s hair was tied up high in accordance with the hotel’s requirements for Service Staff.
The freak in front of her had her hair draped over her shoulders.
The Mirror Person had an arrogant expression as it reached out toward Jiang Li, demanding the Name Tag.
From its demeanor, it didn’t seem to fear Jiang Li at all.
Jiang Li gripped the Name Tag tightly, having no intention of giving it up.
“Or perhaps, an exchange?” The Mirror Person pulled out a Note and waved it smugly in front of Jiang Li’s eyes. “Do you want this?”
When Jiang Li saw the Note, her gaze hardened.
That thing… was a rule!
It had taken the rules!
“What exactly do you want?” Jiang Li stared at it with dark, predatory eyes.
The Mirror Person covered its mouth and began to giggle.
“I want to… replace you.”
The hair on the back of Jiang Li’s neck stood on end.
This freak that had appeared out of nowhere was definitely an Aberration.
It had copied Jiang Li’s appearance, and it had also copied Jiang Li’s Elevator Card to the 3rd Floor.
If an Elevator Card was kept in one’s pocket, it would be very difficult for someone to copy it.
Therefore, the only time it could have been copied by an Aberration was when it was out in the open.
Jiang Li remembered that she had once taken her soiled Elevator Card to the sink next to the Female Hot Spring Pool on the 4th floor to wash it.
So… this Aberration had likely mimicked her back then!
“Give me the Name Tag, and I’ll give you the Note!” The Mirror Person crossed its arms and tilted its chin, looking at Jiang Li with contempt.
It was certain that Jiang Li would back down.
If the Mirror Person wanted to mimic Jiang Li in the hotel, the Name Tag was an indispensable item.
Losing the Name Tag meant losing its identity.
Hearing the Mirror Person’s demand, Jiang Li merely raised an eyebrow indifferently.
She squeezed the Name Tag and smiled. “If you want this, it’s not impossible.”
Jiang Li thought for a moment and walked over to the Staff Elevator.
She said slowly:
“I’ll count to three. We’ll both place our items on the ground at the same time. Red Infant will act as the Witness.”
The Mirror Person nodded. “Fine, I agree.”
Jiang Li curled her lips and began the countdown.
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
