Chapter 86

Wei Sen tried the switch by the right side of the bed, but she still couldn’t turn off the power.

If she couldn’t find a way to deal with the lights before 11:00 p.m., she would be in danger tonight.

[Wei Sen: Try turning off the lights in your rooms.]

Wei Sen sent the message. Before long, her watch vibrated.

[Xu You: They won’t turn off!

Huang Xinze: Damn, mine won’t either! The switch isn’t working!

Liu Shuang: Same here!

Xia Susu: Call the front desk and ask!

Lin Xiaoxue: Sis, look at the time. The front desk got off work ages ago -_-||

Chen Lin: The rules say that if we need help after the staff are off duty, we can ask the innkeeper for help.

Wei Sen: The innkeeper lives on the fourth floor, but the rules said we can’t go to the fourth floor. If we want to ask the innkeeper for help, she’ll have to be somewhere else in the inn.

Huang Xinze: I’ll go out and look around.

Lin Xiaoxue: But that sounds really dangerous too (crying)

Xia Susu: Then what else are we supposed to do? If the lights aren’t off by eleven, aren’t we dead for sure? @Huang Xinze, I agree. Go look for the innkeeper.

Lin Xiaoxue: If someone has to go out and look for the innkeeper, my vote goes to you, @Xia Susu!]

Wei Sen stood in the room and looked around, but she didn’t see any other switches that could control the light.

For now, she did have other options. She could destroy the lamp before eleven, then ask Meiya to replace the bulb after she started work tomorrow.

Or, since the ceiling wasn’t that high, she could stack up a stool and unscrew the bulb herself.

But those were clearly not very smart solutions. She might just barely scrape by on the first night that way, but they had to stay here for seven nights in total. She couldn’t possibly do that every single time.

Besides, she couldn’t guarantee nothing unexpected would happen, or that she wouldn’t trigger some Hidden Rule.

Wei Sen’s gaze fell once more on the switch by the bed.

The lights had turned on perfectly fine when she entered the room, so why had they suddenly become impossible to turn off?

A twin room. Two switches. Could it be…?

Something suddenly occurred to Wei Sen.

The lights could definitely be turned off!

And someone had already figured out how to do it. That was why they had chosen to stay silent!

Wei Sen opened the group chat and was just about to send a message when someone beat her to it by one second.

[Guo Lan: Don’t panic. The lights can be turned off. You have to press the two switches by the beds at the same time!]

The corners of Wei Sen’s mouth lifted slightly. This person really was smart, and fairly honest too. After finding the way to turn off the lights, she had still told everyone in the group truthfully.

Unlike the other two, who had probably discovered the thing with the switches long ago but had stayed lurking in the group chat, playing dumb.

[He Xu: Lan is right. Brother Jie and I just tried it. It works!

Xia Susu: That’s great, thank goodness! Luckily we have a few pros here, or we would’ve gone off stupidly looking for the innkeeper!]

When Wei Sen saw the name that had finally surfaced, she sneered coldly and closed the group chat.

She looked at the two switches by the beds and fell into thought again. Though she had guessed that the two switches had to be pressed at the same time, she simply couldn’t do it alone.

The two beds were too far apart. Even if she lay sideways across both beds and used her fingertips and toes to press one switch each, she still wouldn’t be able to reach.

And that posture… was far too undignified!

With that thought, Wei Sen headed resolutely for the door. Right now, the best solution was neither destroying the bulb’s power source nor pushing the limits of her flexibility. It was-finding a roommate!

Before they checked in, Meiya had once hinted that each guest room could hold up to two people. But in reality, each guest room had to hold two people!

Two people were being forced to stay together. If someone insisted on staying alone, the end result was death.

If one person in a twin room died, then the other could only find a new roommate-or die.

The room type was the best proof. Logically speaking, if she was staying alone, the front desk wouldn’t have given her a twin room when a double room was available. Yet she just so happened to have been checked into a twin room.

Unless this inn only had one double room, and the man across the hall had taken it.

But she was more inclined to believe that this inn had no single rooms at all.

And right now, if she wanted to find a temporary roommate, she could only look for someone who, like her, had chosen to stay alone…
The instant Wei Sen opened her door, the door across from hers opened as well, and she and Zhong Lingkun found themselves staring at each other.

So this man had realized the issue with the switches too-and he was also staying in a double room!

As the thought crossed Wei Sen’s mind, the man across from her spoke first, his voice steady and carrying a magnetic quality that didn’t quite match his appearance.

“Sleep together?” Zhong Lingkun looked at Wei Sen without the slightest emotion in his eyes.

He hadn’t expected this woman to open her door at the exact same moment. And judging by her expression, she had clearly figured out the problem with the switches as well.

Nine times out of ten, she had opened the door to find him as a roommate, so there was no need for him to beat around the bush.

Wei Sen stepped aside. “Come in.”

She liked dealing with smart people. It saved a lot of talking.

///Ding~ Congratulations, Host, for completing the Good Deed: friendly mutual assistance. Merit Points +50!///

A moment later, inside the room, Wei Sen and Zhong Lingkun sat separately on the two beds to the left and right. Neither of them spoke. They looked exactly like two introverted strangers forced to share the same room.

Out of the corner of her eye, Wei Sen glanced at the switch by the headboard.

Zhong Lingkun was a Lone Wolf. He had no teammates he could use to test whether two people pressing the switches together would work. How had he discovered this?

And…

Her gaze slowly shifted to Zhong Lingkun at the side. At that moment, he was sitting ramrod straight with his back to her.

Zhong Lingkun was a man. In this Eerie Entity Instance, the number of men was clearly lower than the number of women. Perhaps she could get more information from him.

At the same time, Zhong Lingkun’s expression was faintly grave.

It had been a long time since he had temporarily teamed up with anyone. The Hidden Rule for checking into this guest room meant he had to make sure this woman didn’t get into trouble for the time being. Otherwise, he would be in danger alone as well.

Most importantly, he was too lazy to change teammates again and again.

How many years had he been drifting through this world? How many batches of teammates had he changed already…?

Zhong Lingkun shook his head, stopped thinking about it, pulled the blanket over himself, and lay down to sleep.

“Where are you from?” Wei Sen lay down as well, her eyes on the ceiling.

At her question, Zhong Lingkun looked at her warily. “Why?”

“Just chatting.”

“Not interested.” The man refused decisively and reached out. “Turn off the light.”

Wei Sen didn’t move. She turned onto her side and looked at the man across from her. “Where are you from?”

This time, there was a trace of threat in her tone.

The man before her was smart. Even though there were other ways to turn off the lights and get through tonight, he had still chosen to suggest teaming up with her.

Because it was the lowest-risk and most direct method. As long as she stayed alive, he wouldn’t have to change roommates.

After all, everyone else had teams. Only he was a Lone Wolf. If a Lone Wolf wanted to team up, first, someone had to be willing. Second, that person also had to have no intention of harming him.

She was different. If she lost this roommate, she could use other methods to get through tonight for the time being. Tomorrow, she would still have teammates she could discuss things with.

Zhong Lingkun withdrew his hand and stared straight at Wei Sen.

This woman was smarter than he had imagined, and also… more dangerous.

This was exactly why he disliked dealing with people in the Instance World. The human heart was the hardest thing to predict.

“Civilization City, District 23.”

Zhong Lingkun’s tone revealed neither joy nor anger as he put both hands behind his head and looked up at the ceiling.

A flicker of surprise flashed through Wei Sen’s eyes.

Huang Xinze was also from District 23 of Civilization City. She hadn’t expected this man to be from the same place as Huang Xinze.

But…

Whether what he said was true or false still remained to be seen.

Wei Sen sighed inwardly.

If only he were from Dragon Nation. After all, Guo Lan had said that she had never encountered a man from Dragon Nation in the Instance World.

Outside the balcony, the wind and snow raged, but Wei Sen’s heartbeat began to quicken.

If he came from Dragon Nation, then she could use an Anomalous Artifact to cut open his chest and see whether, like Li Chang, he had another “heart” hidden inside his heart.
