Chapter 47

“Get ready. Breach the door!”

In the hallway, the two police officers exchanged a glance and took a step back.

“Now!” The two of them charged forward.

The next second, the door suddenly opened, and the two officers nearly failed to stop in time.

Wei Sen calmly stepped aside and looked at the two officers in front of her. “Sorry, I was getting dressed. You said you received a report and needed to enter for an investigation. What is this about?”

The taller officer held a gun in his hand and looked warily into the apartment. “Someone reported that there’s a body in your home. Please cooperate with our search.”

“A body?” Wei Sen turned to glance at the empty dining table, her expression composed. “All right. Go ahead.”

The taller officer entered the apartment with his gun raised, while the shorter officer stayed by the door to keep Wei Sen under control.

The taller officer quickly swept through the living room but found nothing unusual. It wasn’t until he entered the bedroom that he saw the wedding photo on the wall, and the old-fashioned freezer that looked completely out of place.

“What’s with this freezer?” the taller officer called out.

Wei Sen walked in, and the shorter officer followed closely behind her, his hand hovering near the gun at his back at all times.

“I bought it to sell popsicles from a stall,” Wei Sen said.

“Why is it in the bedroom?”

“Where I put it is my business.” Wei Sen’s tone remained as calm as ever, but the coldness on her face was undisguised.

The taller officer gave Wei Sen a meaningful look, then looked at the wedding photo on the wall and asked, “Where’s your husband?”

“At work.”

“Then what’s inside this freezer?” the taller officer pressed.

Seeing that Wei Sen still didn’t answer, the taller officer seemed to realize something. After exchanging a glance with the shorter officer, he abruptly stepped forward and yanked open the freezer door.

However, aside from the cold air spilling out, there was nothing inside.

“Officers, are you done with your search? You barged in here without any real reason. I could sue you for unlawful entry!” Wei Sen’s expression turned even colder.

The taller officer put away his gun, an apologetic look crossing his face. “Sorry for the disturbance, but since we received a report, we had to conduct a routine check for your safety and the safety of the public.”

With that, he left the bedroom and looked at the shorter officer. “Let’s go. We’ll head back and deal with the false report!”

Yet the shorter officer stood there in a daze, as if he hadn’t heard the taller officer at all.

“Hey!” the taller officer called again.

Wei Sen studied the shorter officer behind her. He stood frozen in place, as if his soul had left his body.

The shorter officer suddenly snapped back to himself. Only after casting a sharp look at Wei Sen did he turn and leave with the taller officer.

After the two of them were gone, Wei Sen locked the door again.

It must have been that delivery man from earlier. He had noticed something and called the police.

The taller officer had clearly dropped his suspicions, but the shorter one was still suspicious. Especially that final look-as if he knew something.

Thinking this, Wei Sen walked over to the dining table.

There were obvious water marks on the table from where it had just been wiped down. If the taller officer had checked carefully, they wouldn’t have been hard to notice.

“System, open the Secret Space,” Wei Sen said.

///Ding-Secret Space has been opened for the Host.///

A white door appeared out of thin air in the living room. Wei Sen opened it and went inside.

The empty ten-square-meter room was now covered in human pieces, along with a pile of bloodstained rags.

Thankfully, she had the Secret Space. Otherwise, she never would have been able to hide the body before those two officers broke in.

It was a pity that such an excellent Secret Space had been used here. Her current Merit Points were 710, and the next Card Draw required 1,000 points.

Maybe doing good deeds in the real world could increase Merit Points too?

///Ding~ The System is not bound by space. As long as the Host follows the principles for increasing Merit Points, the System can automatically calculate the score for the Host. The Host may check the detailed point gains in the dashboard at any time.///

The System seemed to have become a part of Wei Sen’s mind. She could sense the System at any moment, and the System could communicate with her through her thoughts as well.
The backend the System had mentioned existed inside her consciousness. All she had to do was think about checking it, and she could open it anytime.

Wei Sen picked up the little black ball from the floor, rinsed it clean, and slipped it into her pants pocket.

It was still early before the 20:00 time written on the Mysterious Invitation, so Wei Sen decided to go out for a walk, raise her Merit Points before the next Instance arrived, and do another Card Draw.

Before leaving, Wei Sen rummaged through her things and found a large bag she had used when moving. Carrying it in hand, she headed out.

Jingdu was a bustling city, but it lacked a few traces of human warmth. Wei Sen wore a simple white T-shirt and loose jeans as she shouldered the bag and picked up trash from the street. Passersby hurried to and fro. Though some cast strange looks her way, not a single one slowed down.

Cigarette butts, mineral water bottles, tissues that had been used to wipe runny noses…

///Ding~ Congratulations, Host, for protecting the environment. Merit Points +1!///

“From now on, don’t notify me for increases under 10 points.” Wei Sen kept her head down, focused on picking up trash.

She had to admit, the general quality of Jingdu’s citizens really was worthy of praise.

Wei Sen picked up trash from the bottom of her apartment building across two whole streets, and in total, she had only gained 150 Merit Points. Her current Merit Points were 860.

Wei Sen threw the huge bag of trash into a recycling station, washed her hands in a public restroom, and looked at the person in the bathroom mirror.

No distortion. No abnormalities. No fog.

Although the real world was completely different from the Eerie World, Wei Sen found it even more dangerous.

The dangers of the Eerie World were laid out in the open, while the dangers in the real world were like undercurrents, hidden everywhere.

Wei Sen left the public restroom and walked down the street.

She had to think of a way to gain points faster…

Wei Sen suddenly thought of something and hurriedly took out her phone to check her bank balance: 13,200 yuan.

She had earned far more than this in the year since she woke up after the car accident, but after paying off her student loans from college, plus medical treatment and follow-up checkups, this was all she had left.

Wei Sen tried donating 200 yuan online to a welfare organization.

///Ding~ Congratulations, Host, for helping others. Merit Points +20! Current Merit Points: 880!///

Two hundred yuan equaled 20 points, which meant thirteen thousand yuan equaled 1,300 points!

Wei Sen immediately donated another 1,200 yuan.

///Ding~ Congratulations, Host, for helping others. Merit Points +120! Current Merit Points: 1000! You may now open one Card Draw. Open it?///

“Not for now.”

Sure enough, whaling worked no matter what world you were in!

///Friendly reminder: The next Card Draw requires a cumulative total of 2,000 Merit Points.///

Two thousand…

She was currently 1,000 points short, which meant she would have to whale another ten thousand yuan…

Wei Sen pressed a hand to her forehead. She couldn’t whale anymore. She really couldn’t.

Without money, she couldn’t do anything. It was impossible for her to donate the last ten-thousand-plus yuan she had just for a Card Draw. Otherwise, before she even found the truth, she would starve herself to death first.

As for Li Chang’s money, it had all gone into buying that apartment. He was buried in debt, so that was even less worth thinking about.

Maybe she could buy Li Chang a high-value accident insurance policy…

Wei Sen’s eyes lit up slightly, and her steps quickened.

“Brother, your forehead is dark. You are bound to suffer a calamity today!”

“??? Are you crazy or what?!”

“It’s true! I’ve got a talisman right here. Take it back, burn it to ash, drink it down, and you’ll be fine. I won’t charge you 998. Today, it’s yours for just twenty yuan! Hey! Hey!”

Wei Sen suddenly heard a familiar Sichuan accent. She looked across the street and saw a man with a small stall set up, wearing a blue Daoist robe and black sunglasses. Wasn’t that the Daoist priest who had teamed up with her in the Zhihui Primary School Instance?
