“You told me last time that a killer doesn’t easily change their modus operandi. So why did the killer change it this time?”

“Did the killer change their MO?” Due to the memory reset, Qiu Ziyu was unaware that the killer’s method had changed.

Nan Mu gave a brief description of how Wen Miao had died previously. “Before, you told me that he dissected Wen Miao’s skull with a sense of ritual. But why did he just push her off the building this time?”

Qiu Ziyu looked thoughtful. “Maybe it was an emergency, so he was forced to change his method?”

Nan Mu remained noncommittal. “Wen Xin wouldn’t lie. If he was on the first floor when the incident happened, that means Nurse Lin was the only person on the rooftop before Wen Miao fell… Even if Xu Lei was the one who did it, it’s impossible for Nurse Lin to be completely unaware.”

A chill ran through Nan Mu’s heart. “If she isn’t the killer, she’s at least an accomplice!”

When Qiu Ziyu arrived, he brought Nan Mu’s phone with him.

Nan Mu had originally expected to return the next day, so he had only briefed his company on two days’ worth of business. He hadn’t expected to get injured, so as soon as he turned the phone on, messages started flooding in. The constant chiming and buzzing nearly made the phone explode.

“As for this Nurse Lin you mentioned, her identity information will definitely be registered in Wen Miao’s case file. I’ll check it thoroughly when I get back, so don’t overthink it. The doctor said you need to rest.”

Qiu Ziyu scratched his head as he spoke. “I have to head back to the office in a bit. What about you? Should I call your parents, or have your assistant come over? I didn’t dare call your assistant earlier for fear that the news of the chairman of Nan Huan Group being injured would leak out.”

Nan Mu couldn’t help but laugh. “What are you so afraid of? It’s not like I stabbed someone else.”

“Isn’t that how the news always reports it? If some high-level executive at a group resigns, the stock price plummets. Not to mention you’re the founder and president of Nan Huan Group. If word gets out, what if the stock price crashes?”

Nan Mu gave Qiu Ziyu a curious look. “You’ve grown. You’re actually considering my career concerns now?”

Qiu Ziyu rolled his eyes and muttered, “Who’s considering your career? It’s only because I bought some of your company’s stock… I’m poor enough as it is. If it drops any further, I’ll be completely broke.”

Nan Mu laughed at that, but the movement pulled at the wound on his abdomen. He grimaced and clutched his side. “Qiu Ziyu, you should take the long view. If you can help me save Wen Miao… I swear, on the day she and I get our marriage certificate, I’ll give you a wedding home in Jiangshan Ciyue.”

Jiangshan Ciyue was currently the most expensive residential development per square meter in City A.

“Holy cow!” Qiu Ziyu couldn’t help but give him a thumbs-up. “As expected of a big boss! You’re so good at dangling carrots for us workers. ‘On the day you get your marriage certificate’… why don’t you just reach for the stars while you’re at it! It’s hard enough just to save her; now you want me to help you woo her too? In your dreams!”

Nan Mu laughed until his wound hurt, his face twitching. Qiu Ziyu couldn’t bear to watch.

“Forget it, I’ll stop making you laugh. What are you going to do after I leave? Who should I call to take care of you?”

Nan Mu waved his hand. “Go ahead, I’m fine. I’ve already asked Xu Yang to come over.”

Xu Yang was Nan Mu’s assistant. Qiu Ziyu had met him before and knew he was a reliable man, so he left with peace of mind.

Xu Yang hadn’t been able to get in touch with his boss for three days.

When his boss left, he told Xu Yang to handle any urgent matters himself. Regarding financial issues, however, everyone was told to wait a couple of days until the boss returned. But as it turned out, he had been missing for five days now!

In the world of capital operations, a single day can turn everything upside down, let alone five. Over the past few days, Xu Yang’s phone had been ringing off the hook with people asking for the boss.

In all honesty, he truly had no idea where his boss was. The man’s phone was off, and Xu Yang had already checked all his usual haunts. If he hadn’t known for a fact that Nan Huan Group was operating normally, stable, and highly profitable, he would have suspected the boss had abandoned them and gone on the run.

“Xu Yang!” The sound of high heels clicking echoed from outside the door, the voice arriving before the person did. “I know you have an issue with me. But I thought our conflicts were strictly professional; there’s no need for you to block my funding at a time like this, is there?”

Xu Yang’s head throbbed the moment he heard the voice. He looked up to see Lin Lin, the Director of the Research Department, storming in to confront him.

Xu Yang felt a headache coming on. “Director Lin, I’m really not intentionally blocking your application or refusing to submit it. It’s just that President Nan hasn’t come into the office these past few days, so there’s no one to sign off on it.”

Lin Lin didn’t believe him for a second. She was Nan Mu’s junior by three years from the same university.

When Nan Mu finished his graduate studies, she had just graduated from college. Upon hearing that Nan Mu was starting his own business, she had joined him without hesitation, making her one of the founding members of Nan Huan Group. She had been with Nan Mu much longer than Xu Yang had.

In her mind, Nan Mu was a complete workaholic who spent every day in the lab and didn’t even have time for a relationship. How could he possibly skip work for five days straight?

“Where is President Nan? I want to see him.”

Seeing Director Lin barge right into President Nan’s office, Xu Yang didn’t bother to stop her. She wouldn’t believe a word he said until she saw it for herself anyway.

“See? He’s really not here!”

After finally seeing Director Lin out, just as Xu Yang was at his wits’ end, he finally received a message from his boss.

He had made countless calls and sent dozens of messages, only for his boss to reply with a single, casual sentence.

Boss: [Bring the documents that need processing to Floor 7, Building 2 of the First Affiliated Hospital of A University of Science and Technology Medical School. Also, stop by my house and grab a few changes of clothes for me.]

On his way there, Xu Yang speculated about who his boss was taking care of at the hospital.

Logic dictated it wasn’t his parents; he had visited them a few days ago while trying to track down the boss’s whereabouts, and they seemed perfectly fine at the time.

But if it wasn’t his parents, who was the boss taking care of so personally that he didn’t even have time to go home for a change of clothes-and even kept his phone off for days?

Could it be that his lucky star of romance had finally aligned?

He spent the entire drive guessing wildly, running through every possibility he could think of. However, he never would have imagined that his boss had actually been stabbed!

A stab wound to the abdomen! He’d even had surgery and been unconscious for three days!
