Chapter 97
Chapter 97
After finishing her bow, Shengsheng Zhou went out to make tea for the two men, only to see the palace maid Xiangxiang hurrying toward her.
“Sister Shengsheng, something terrible has happened!”
Had Master been captured by a monster?
Naturally, Shengsheng could not actually say that.
“What happened?” she asked unhurriedly.
Her composed bearing, as though she could solve any problem, immediately calmed Xiangxiang.
As expected of her Sister Shengsheng.
“His Majesty is here.”
Shengsheng froze.
Holy fucking hell, Xunlan Liu, you really know how to pick your moment! You just had to come when the adulterer was here!
Though her heart gave a jolt, Shengsheng revealed nothing. She turned with perfect calm to report inside.
Xiangxiang watched her steady, collected back with envy.
When would she grow into someone like Sister Shengsheng?
When consorts in other palaces heard the emperor was coming, everyone burst into feverish delight. In Qianyi Palace, everyone went on a war footing.
Xunlan was a poor emperor and a rotten person. When he failed to get his way with Fusheng Duan, he vented his anger on the servants and found fault with everything. Fusheng was not the only one who hated him. Under their mistress’s influence, the servants of Qianyi Palace found the words “the emperor” as disgusting as swallowing a fly.
Shengsheng called this the “Fusheng Duan Effect.”
When Shengsheng returned, the two men stopped talking and looked at her in unison.
She bowed. “Your Highness, His Majesty has arrived.”
The words had barely left her mouth when a shrill voice sounded outside. “His Majesty has arrived!”
Weiqing Song rose with incredible speed. He moved beside Shengsheng, lowered his head, and once again became the meek young eunuch from before.
Fusheng’s expression did not change in the slightest. When Xunlan entered, he even ordered Shengsheng to make tea.
“My beloved consort! We have come!”
*Here comes the husband to catch the adulterer,* Shengsheng thought.
She understood that Fusheng wanted both her and Weiqing out of Xunlan’s way.
But as she turned to leave, she happened to come face-to-face with Xunlan.
Instead of taking the proper path, the man deliberately veered toward her. As Shengsheng hurried to dodge, he lashed out with his foot and kicked her away.
The unavoidable force sent Shengsheng toppling sideways. She struck the floor heavily.
Weiqing’s pupils contracted. Killing intent blazed in his eyes as he hurried over to help her.
Fusheng shot to his feet.
“Your Majesty, this consort feels unwell. Please return for now.”
The utterly impolite words were a direct order for Xunlan to leave.
His face immediately darkened.
They had been locked in a cold war for so long. He had finally swallowed his pride and come to her first, yet this person truly meant to be so heartless?
“Fusheng Duan, hear us! Everything you possess was given to you by us! If we take it all back, do you think you can remain alive?”
Fusheng bowed without the slightest haste. “Then this consort thanks Your Majesty in advance.”
*Did you hear that? Your beloved consort is begging you to depose him.*
The abrupt thought made the other two men pause. Xunlan alone heard nothing.
Even now, she still had the presence of mind to make jokes?
Giving Shengsheng an almost helpless look, Weiqing followed Fusheng’s signal and quietly carried her out.
Xunlan’s heart and eyes were wholly occupied by Fusheng, so naturally he failed to notice their little maneuver.
In Weiqing’s arms, Shengsheng felt a dull ache in her hip.
That damned Xunlan had kicked her directly on the bone.
Though the man was built like a weakling, he was still an adult. He had also kicked Shengsheng Zhou with the deliberate intention of making her suffer, and the force was astonishing. Even Shengsheng could not move for quite some time after taking that blow.
“Where do you live?”
The deliberately lowered voice came from above. Shengsheng looked up and met Weiqing Song’s eyes, still dark with anger.
After a moment’s thought, Shengsheng struggled. “Your Highness, please put this servant down. This servant can return by herself.”
Xiangxiang, who had been waiting nearby, hurried over. At the sight of Shengsheng’s faintly pale face, tears welled in her eyes. “What happened? Sister Shengsheng, are you all right?”
Shengsheng gave her a reassuring smile. “I’m fine.”
*I was only kicked by a dog’s hoof.*
“Fetch the imperial physician.” The commanding voice carried an authority that admitted no defiance.
Xiangxiang obeyed without thinking. It did not even register that such an imposing air had come from an unremarkable young eunuch.
Shengsheng could not help tugging Weiqing’s sleeve and whispering, “Your Highness, you mustn’t expose yourself.”
Weiqing gave a soft snort. “Worry about yourself first. Where do you live?”
It was already the second time he had asked. Shengsheng had no choice but to point casually in one direction.
No way. Why did Weiqing seem angry?
As she silently puzzled over it, he carried her into her room.
Fortunately, she lived alone. Otherwise, explaining where Weiqing had come from would have been difficult.
After briefly surveying the furnishings, he set Shengsheng on the bed.
He reached straight for her sash. Shengsheng was so frightened that she grabbed his hand. “Your Highness?!”
Only then did Weiqing remember that her injury was in a place a man could not examine. He released her.
He considered for a moment whether there was still time to order Jian Zhang to rush to the Yong Kingdom and abduct a female physician.
Then he swiftly rejected the idea.
Forget it. By the time the female physician arrived, she would probably have to treat Jian for foaming at the mouth first.
Jian had followed him for many years. He did not deserve such a fate.
Having successfully infiltrated the palace and now hidden somewhere in Qianyi Palace, Jian had no idea he had inadvertently escaped a calamity.
“Does it hurt?” Weiqing asked, his eyes lowered toward her.
Shengsheng shook her head decisively. “No worries.” As if. It hurt like hell.
Weiqing said evenly, “Xiaohong has learned to lie.”
Without blushing or missing a beat, Shengsheng shook her head. “It truly doesn’t hurt.”
She was no longer the little palace maid Shengsheng Zhou who could only endure Xunlan Liu’s harassment with nowhere to vent her anger.
She was now Niohuru Shengsheng, possessor of A-Pang!
She would deal with that old bastard tonight. If she did not scare him limp, then she had picked up this enormous golden finger for nothing.
Thinking of all the inexplicable methods at Shengsheng’s disposal, Weiqing fell silent.
For a moment, he could not decide whom he ought to pity first.
As the two stared at each other in silence, an earthshaking noise suddenly erupted outside.
It was loud enough to be heard clearly even from here.
A palace servant knocked on Shengsheng’s door. After Shengsheng called for her to enter, a young maid she recognized came inside.
“A-Si, what happened?”
A-Si was so nervous that she failed to notice the additional person in the room. She stammered, “His Majesty ordered people to guard the doors and keep everyone out. No one knows what he’s doing in there.”
Shengsheng’s pupils contracted.
Holy shit. Xunlan Liu wasn’t planning to force himself on Fusheng Duan, was he?
