Chapter 150
Chapter 150
Shengsheng Zhou jumped straight into the air in fright, speaking faster than she ever had in her life. “Very good, you have successfully attracted my attention!!!!!”
As though it were a signal, the instant the final word fell, the jailer’s eyelids hardened like steel. They snapped shut by force, and no matter how hard he tried, he could not open them.
Taking advantage of his obstructed vision, Shengsheng pressed on and barked coldly, “Get the hell out of here, you’re playing with fire, very good, you have successfully attracted my attention!!”
Something incredible happened. The man abruptly crouched, curled into a ball, and rolled toward the door.
Then he got stuck…
Speechless, Shengsheng opened the door for him and watched him roll away.
She sighed in relief and looked toward the new mission-taker huddled in the corner.
The face covered in knife scars startled her at first. Yet even with it ruined to such an extent, Shengsheng still recognized him.
She strode over with bared teeth and kicked at his stomach. “Sorry, wrong place. Go fuck yourself!”
She would recognize this man even if he were reduced to ashes. It was Jierge, the damned culprit who had nearly driven her insane and caused her public humiliation!
Just as her kick was about to land, the previously silent man suddenly cried out, “Senior?!”
Shengsheng froze, her toes stopping barely short of the perfectly formed eight-pack before her.
Unlike the unfathomable air he had given off before, the current “Jierge” possessed eyes of spotless purity, as though anyone could see straight through him.
A-Pang suddenly asked, *Huh? Don’t tell me you’re the new mission-taker!*
The wounded Jierge nodded. “That’s me.”
Shengsheng withdrew her delicate foot in surprise and patted his shoulder with heartfelt grief. “Brother, this is far too miserable.”
“*Reborn as a Dark-Skinned Man* was bad enough, but you also got *Sexually Harassed by a Jailer at the Start*. Your luck is atrocious.”
The new mission-taker grimaced in pain beneath Shengsheng’s enthusiastic pats. “Senior, this body’s shoulder is injured too… Please go easy…”
Shengsheng withdrew her hand. “Sorry.”
The new mission-taker shook his head and smiled brightly. “It’s fine, Senior. But you missed one just now.”
“There’s also *Disfigured After Starting as a Prisoner*.”
He smiled, revealing straight teeth. His normally sharp eyes curved, making him look extraordinarily alive.
Shengsheng tugged the chains binding his hands and feet. “How old are you?”
He replied meekly, “I had just turned eighteen when I died. Senior can call me Xiaosui.”
*So young,* Shengsheng thought. She motioned for him to wait, cleared her throat, and told the chains, “Chains, I command you to break yourselves.”
Xiaosui: ??
Shengsheng’s face abruptly darkened. Her eyes filled with restrained fury as she shouted, “Chains, you are playing with fire!”
The next instant, the chains that neither blades nor flames could break shattered at the sound.
Xiaosui stared at Shengsheng in disbelief and worship.
Wow, so cool. Was this the power of a senior?!
Shengsheng rubbed her nose awkwardly, then quickly returned to character and smiled crookedly. “Very good, chains. You have successfully attracted my attention.”
Only then did the faintly trembling chains die completely.
Xiaosui rose unsteadily. The tall man’s build was imposing, yet when he lowered his head to look at Shengsheng, his eyes seemed to sparkle.
Shengsheng Zhou coughed. “Don’t worship me. I’m only a legend.”
The jailer she had driven out was finally discovered, and the two heard a clamor of approaching footsteps.
Shengsheng grabbed Xiaosui and swiftly repeated the same lines she had used to arrive. Their figures disappeared at once.
In the final second, some inexplicable impulse made Shengsheng glance toward the door. When she caught sight of a dark-red hem, her heart leaped into her throat, and she forgot to breathe.
Even after returning to her bedchamber, she failed to respond despite Xiaosui calling her several times.
“Senior? Senior?” Xiaosui frowned at Shengsheng, who looked as though she had lost her soul.
Shengsheng’s expression paused. “Hm? What is it?”
He was not the only person who wore red. Perhaps she had imagined it.
What would that man be doing in the cell where Jierge was imprisoned in the middle of the night? Catching up with an old friend?
Shengsheng probably never imagined that her words had truly proved prophetic.
During his recent sleepless nights, Fusheng Duan had suddenly remembered the barbarian City Lord Jierge, whom he had completely forgotten.
A man Shengsheng called “dark-skinned.”
Yet that impulsive decision brought him there at the exact moment Jierge disappeared. It also led him to a minor jailer who, believing the prisoner unimportant because of Fusheng’s neglect, had bribed the other night guards and intended to assault him.
A barbed whip soaked in liquor lashed brutally across the negligent jailers. Amid their overlapping screams, Fusheng merely sat in the chair opposite them, fingers curled as he tapped the armrest again and again in thought.
The prison door stood open. If the escapees had left that way, they should have run directly into him. Yet he had met no one on his way in. There was no other exit unless they had used some inhuman method.
When Fusheng entered the cell, he seemed to have glimpsed something.
But it vanished instantly, like a wisp of smoke briefly given substance, leaving no chance to see it clearly.
Of the mystical methods currently known in this world, only the descendants of Qing Kingdom and Shengsheng possessed such means…
Shengsheng was indeed dead. Her body, at least, had already begun to decay before burial.
Yet the plot she had spoken of clearly was not finished. If the person who had constantly driven that plot forward suddenly died before it reached its end…
Where would her soul go?
Back where she belonged, perhaps–to the world where she had originally lived?
If an error suddenly occurred somewhere within an enormous system and he were the one above it, the best solution would naturally be to send someone new to correct that error.
If he found this newly dispatched person, might he learn Shengsheng’s whereabouts from them?
After languishing for so long, he had nearly forgotten.
Shengsheng herself was wrapped in mysteries. She had never belonged to this world.
Her life and death could not be defined by their understanding.
…
“Oh my god! There’s a–”
Before the young palace maid could shout “assassin,” someone knocked her unconscious.
Looking at the maid crumpled on the floor, Shengsheng sighed in relief. She had nearly forgotten that a maid kept watch in her room at night.
A-Pang crawled out and asked Xiaosui, who was helping the maid aside, *Why would up above give you such a pathetic body? Wait, where is your system?*
Xiaosui looked baffled. *What system?*
Shengsheng blinked. “What are you talking about, little bro?”
A-Pang: !!?
