Chapter 165
Chapter 165
Having said that, Shengsheng Zhou pushed off hard and sprang aside, revealing Fusheng Duan behind her. His face was expressionless, though veins throbbed faintly on his forehead.
Urged on by Shengsheng’s gaze, Fusheng took a deep breath. He clenched both hands into fists before his chest, spread his legs, and began swaying his waist along with his arms.
Shengsheng kept time as tears streamed down her face.
Do not misunderstand. She was holding back her laughter.
To see Fusheng perform the social shake in her lifetime was truly her good fortune.
When the dance reached the part where he raised both hands into a flower shape, Shengsheng cleared her throat. “Hello, Mr. DJ~ Don’t let the rhythm stop. There’s a party in my head, and I’ve simply got to rock.”
“Give me one minute, the right to let my mind go blank. Troubles and worries, every last one of you can get lost~”
“The beat is too heavy, and the alcohol’s taking hold~”
Fusheng pushed off with his toes and turned his back to them. One hand rested on his waist while the other stretched out and waved downward.
“The lights keep spinning~ They make you want to lose control~”
A farmer bending down to collect branches stared at the beautiful man before him, who was twisting his waist and shaking his hips while waving one hand like a flower. The grass in the farmer’s basket spilled all over his head, yet he did not react at all.
“My body’s already itching to move~~ Oh, here we go! Bass, bass–shake!”
“So-so-so-so, social shake; so-so-so-so, social shake~”
Weiqing Song, who had nearly ascended to heaven, suddenly regained clarity. The crimson-clad man swaying his waist and hips in the distance sharpened into view.
“Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!”
That one laugh cost him half a lifetime of accumulated merit.
Do not ask. The answer was simply that even the fairies in heaven could not move their hips like Fusheng, allowing Weiqing to return to the mortal realm.
Fusheng’s bewitching, hypnotic dance–performed with the face of a corpse–combined with Shengsheng’s exuberant singing and clapping, and Weiqing’s breathless laughter.
Add the cheers of passing strangers and the clatter of copper coins being tossed their way.
Together, they painted a dazzling scene at the foot of a mountain that was normally silent as death.
…
Following in the guide’s footsteps, Shengsheng wore a smile of complete satisfaction.
Weiqing had generously lent her veil to Fusheng, whose face was so dark it looked ready to drip ink.
Weiqing had achieved enlightenment. Whatever happened in the future, he would do his utmost never to provoke Shengsheng Zhou.
Rubbing the slight swelling on the back of his head, he sighed. When a person’s luck arrived, nothing could stop it.
Otherwise, the one dancing would not have been Fusheng Duan. It would have been him, Weiqing Song.
The mere thought sent goose bumps rising all over his body.
Shengsheng suddenly stopped ahead, and Weiqing stopped as well.
“What is it?” he asked.
Shengsheng pointed to the guide, who had halted at the front.
The guide motioned for them to remain calm.
Shengsheng could not remain calm, because the man was standing on the hem of her skirt.
She studied his face and found his age difficult to judge. He looked too young to call Uncle, but not quite young enough to call Brother.
Left with no other choice, Shengsheng poked his shoulder blade. “Man, move your foot.”
The guide silently moved his foot.
Weiqing said pleasantly, “My apologies, Mister… Man. My little sister is simply like this. Please don’t take offense.”
Fusheng crossed his arms and scoffed. “You’re hardly any better.”
Weiqing turned and glared at him. “Doesn’t your waist hurt?”
Shengsheng smiled apologetically. “Sorry. Those two are always like this. Please don’t take offense.”
The guide’s mouth twitched. He thought, *The three of you truly are birds of a feather.*
“Woof.”
A bark suddenly came from ahead. The guide said, “We can continue.”
The three people behind him leaned sideways and poked their heads out one after another.
A Chinese village dog stood before the guide. Someone had even tied a pretty bow around its neck with blue silk, making it look remarkably dashing.
Shengsheng Zhou exclaimed admiringly, “What a handsome son of a bitch!”
Weiqing Song silently reached out and turned her head forward again.
Fusheng Duan chuckled.
Shengsheng muttered, “What are you laughing at?” and continued walking.
It was strange. The mountain had looked perfectly normal from below, but not long after they entered, a thick fog gathered around them, making it impossible to see their surroundings or determine direction.
Since the guide could not see either, had he deliberately chosen a dog with a keen nose to lead the way?
Two layers of insurance. Pretty classy.
At that moment, however, Weiqing suddenly said, “Wait, isn’t that dog running a little too fast?”
Sure enough, Shengsheng had barely raised her eyes when the little dog leading them suddenly bolted and vanished.
“What do we do now, Mr. Man?” Shengsheng asked.
Mr. Man pressed his lips together. “My surname is Zhou. My given name is Wukong.”
Shengsheng nodded. “All right, Brother Monkey. The dog ran away. What do we do?”
Weiqing and Fusheng both made muffled sounds of suppressed laughter.
Wukong Zhou took a deep breath and tried to keep his tone polite. “You need not worry. I will deliver you safely.”
“Then… what was the dog for?”
Wukong replied flatly, “For show.”
*They’re beyond saving. An organization this large needs a single dog to keep up appearances.*
“Imperial Brother, are you certain we came to the right place?”
Hearing that, Weiqing turned to Fusheng. “Are you certain this is the place?”
The brother and sister were obviously born of the same mother. Beyond their equally striking looks, a closer inspection revealed similarities around their eyes and brows–especially when both stared at someone like this.
Faced with one large and one small pair of doubtful eyes, Fusheng wavered. He nodded hesitantly. “Perhaps?”
Wukong finally reached the end of his patience and spun around. “Enough! I’m not deaf!”
After trading nonsense for the entire journey, they finally emerged from the fog.
What greeted them was–
Well, a village.
At the village entrance stood a sign bearing the crooked words: “The Duanmus’ Lair.”
Fusheng noticed Weiqing and Shengsheng wearing identical expressions of disappointment.
Shengsheng said, “I thought they would build their houses in the sky!”
Weiqing said, “I thought they would live in immortal caves!”
The guide looked immensely relieved. He waved them onward. “Hurry inside. The thunder-maker you’re looking for lives in the third house to the east.”
With that, he hurried away as though a plague demon were chasing him.
Watching his retreating back, Shengsheng thought, *If he’d walked that fast while guiding us, we wouldn’t have had so much time to speculate behind him.*
The village was utterly ordinary, no different from any other common settlement. As they walked deeper, they saw plenty of people returning home with hoes over their shoulders after finishing their work.
When those people spotted three unfamiliar faces, they even greeted them first. “Hello, people from below the mountain.”
Shengsheng responded warmly, “Hello, crop-growing living immortals.”
The third house to the east looked more refined than the others. It was a tiled house.
Shengsheng was the first to knock.
Hearing the sound, someone inside shouted, “Password! The sun rises in the east while rain falls in the west?”
Delighted, Shengsheng shouted back in a heroic voice, “Your grandpa is one gorgeous beauty!”
