Chapter 123
Chapter 123
A-Pang was so frightened he nearly cried.
What in the world was happening? Why was everything so eerie?
He flew in front of Shengsheng Zhou and tried to tug her back by the hair, but she seemed unable to see or hear him and did not react at all.
When A-Pang saw Shengsheng walk into an unfamiliar house, he gritted his teeth and contacted his superiors.
But his superiors instructed him to resolve it himself, because the World Law indicated that nothing was amiss.
A-Pang might look stupid, but he was not actually stupid. Something was obviously wrong. How could they claim there was no problem?
Were they ignoring it simply because it had nothing to do with the original novel’s plot?
A-Pang had been with Shengsheng for a long time. Though the woman and panda often bickered, they were extremely close. Besides, a faint dread prickled inside him, warning him that Shengsheng’s current condition was dangerous. So he boldly did something he was never supposed to do.
He flew toward the inn as quickly as he could.
He could write it down. He could write down what was wrong with Shengsheng!
Even if Fusheng Duan could not see him, it would be enough if Fusheng saw the note and went to save Shengsheng!
A-Pang swiftly flew into Fusheng’s room. Fortunately, Shengsheng had left the door open when she departed, sparing him from having to circle around and enter through the window.
Struggling to lift a brush taller than himself, A-Pang prepared to write–then stared stupidly.
Damn it, how were traditional characters written?!
After following Shengsheng for so many years, he could recognize them, but he could not write them!
The little panda was truly about to cry. Shengsheng had been right: in youth, one knew not the need to study; with white hair, one rued that learning came too late. (He had completely forgotten that the saying was not used this way.)
After finally calming down, A-Pang realized that even if he could write nothing else, he did know the three characters of Shengsheng’s name. Beside them, he wrote an enormous “DANGER.”
By the time he finally finished, A-Pang could no longer fly at all. He sprawled beside the filthy inkstone with tears in his eyes and waited for Fusheng to return.
Heaven did not disappoint those who persevered. Just as anxiety consumed him, the door opened and a familiar red figure walked inside.
A-Pang jerked up his head and deliberately pushed the inkstone off the table to draw Fusheng’s attention.
Fusheng strode over and immediately saw the white sheet of paper on the ink-covered table.
The writing was strange, but the three characters of Shengsheng’s name occupied half the page. Whoever had written them had clearly been frantic.
A-Pang nervously clasped his paws together, terrified that Fusheng would not understand. Although he knew Fusheng could neither see nor hear him, he still stammered, “Shengsheng is in danger. Hurry and save her.”
The moment he finished speaking, something even more terrifying than everything before happened.
The devastatingly beautiful man before him raised his head, and his sharp eyes met A-Pang’s gaze with perfect accuracy.
“Where is she?”
Every hair on A-Pang’s body instantly stood on end, and his eyes widened into perfect circles.
“Holy shit… Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, you… you… how… how can you… see me?!”
Fusheng frowned and said impatiently, “Enough nonsense. Lead the way.”
With that, his hands darted out and seized the still-bewildered panda by the scruff. He lifted A-Pang from the table and walked outside.
A-Pang screamed endlessly inside. *He! Can! Actually! Touch! Me?!*
*You dogshit superiors! This is what you meant when you said there was nothing wrong?!*
*This entire world is breaking apart, all right?!*
*Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay?!*
Fusheng Duan tightened his fingers, then flung A-Pang away. “What happened while I was gone?”
A-Pang was about to speak when Fusheng added expressionlessly, “One unnecessary word, and I’ll pluck you bald.”
Trembling, A-Pang recalled the terror of nearly being pecked bald by a black bird.
Even during the one-sentence-summary exam he had taken to become a system, his explanation had never been this flawless.
The moment A-Pang said there was something wrong with all the townspeople, Fusheng casually grabbed someone and threw him off a rooftop. The falling man’s blood splashed all over passersby, yet no one cared. Instead, they smiled at the corpse and said, “It’s all right. Don’t worry about it.”
It was as though the corpse, its face coated in blood, skull split open, and lips still curved in a smile, were still a living person.
Faced with such a bizarre and horrifying scene, A-Pang even scooted closer to Fusheng of his own accord.
This was fucking terrifying.
A Healer of Matchless Beauty was supposed to be an ordinary historical romance novel!
Fusheng sneered. “It has been a long time since I last saw this thing.”
A-Pang looked at him in confusion. “What thing? You’ve seen it before? Can you turn them back to normal?”
Withdrawing his gaze coldly, Fusheng continued forward without slowing. His tone was indifferent. “What do their lives or deaths have to do with me?”
This man could be counted on–when trouble came, he could be counted on to do absolutely nothing.
A-Pang pouted. “This is the border!! If you don’t save them, won’t the barbarians invade?!”
Fusheng did not tell him that the place had probably fallen under barbarian control long ago.
As they talked, the man and panda soon arrived outside the building Shengsheng Zhou had entered.
A-Pang pointed upward. “The wall isn’t high. We can quietly…”
Bang!
Before he could finish, he watched helplessly as Fusheng kicked open the door with domineering force and walked inside in broad daylight.
Holy shit…
He truly had not played the villain all these years for nothing…
Calling it a building was rather grandiose; it was really just an ordinary residence. No one guarded the entrance, and unlike the bustling street they had just left, the surroundings were extremely quiet.
Everything carried an air of strangeness.
A-Pang nervously grabbed Fusheng’s sleeve, earning a distracted, warning glare from him.
A-Pang acknowledged that he was afraid, but he still dared. His little paws clutched the fabric even tighter.
Yet contrary to the danger-ridden or corpse-strewn scene A-Pang had imagined…
Everything inside was perfectly ordinary.
An ordinary courtyard, ordinary flowers and plants, three ordinary rooms, and–
An extremely ordinary Shengsheng, sitting in the courtyard playing chess with someone.
A-Pang: *…*
Hearing footsteps, Shengsheng glanced over. When she saw Fusheng, she beckoned naturally. “You’re here.”
The tension that had eased halfway inside Fusheng instantly rose again.
Something was wrong. Little Tail never addressed him as “you” in front of outsiders.
*Shengsheng!!* A-Pang released Fusheng’s sleeve and tried to fly over, only to be flicked backward by one of Fusheng’s fingers.
The finger struck him squarely on the head.
A-Pang: T_T
Fusheng’s movement was not concealed. It could even be called exceedingly conspicuous.
To an outsider, it might have looked inexplicable. But Shengsheng, who should have been able to see A-Pang, did not react at all.
It was as though nothing existed there besides Fusheng.
Fusheng’s heart sank. He turned his gaze toward the black-robed man playing chess with Shengsheng.
“My oversight. I actually let a rat exploit the opening,” he mocked without the slightest attempt to conceal it.
