Chapter 8
Chapter 8
All the sounds in my dream receded like floodwaters. Light was already showing outside the window.
I didn’t hear the bell again. Maybe it had only been a dream.
Wang Cheng was still asleep, but his body kept trembling, his whole face twisted in pain. Clearly, he wasn’t sleeping peacefully.
I patted him and woke him up.
Wang Cheng had suffered nightmares all night too. After he crawled out of bed, he was still a little dazed.
“Wash your face. Wake yourself up. Let’s head out early.”
Wang Cheng and I got dressed. When we walked out of the room, Luo Hong opened his door too, yawning.
“Yo, Brother Long. Up this early?”
I grunted in response. I had meant to go around him and straight downstairs, but then I noticed that in Luo Hong’s room, only one bed had been slept in.
Then where had Luo Gui slept last night?
Maybe Luo Hong noticed my gaze lingering. He gave a sleazy chuckle. “She left and came back. That means she’s into it, right? Brother Long, you shouldn’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong.”
“What the fuck did you just say?”
I grabbed Luo Hong by the collar and slammed him against the wall with a bang.
Luo Hong’s face went pale in an instant. Without Luo Gui, he had no ability to resist me at all.
“What are you doing, Brother Long? The two of them slept together the whole night. That means it was mutual, doesn’t it?”
“You fucking-”
I raised my fist, but Wang Cheng stopped me. The commotion even alarmed the innkeeper.
The innkeeper came running up in a panic. “Is this really necessary, brothers? If you’ve got something to say, just talk it out.”
I turned and glared at the innkeeper. “Did that blind girl from last night come back? Where is she staying?”
The innkeeper froze, then seemed to realize what might have happened. Trembling, he pointed toward the end of the hallway. “The room all the way inside.”
I shoved Luo Hong aside and strode quickly toward that room.
That girl couldn’t see. If she ran into a lunatic like Luo Gui, what would happen to her?
I didn’t dare think about it. I had a daughter of my own, and once, I had a little sister too.
Even now, dead Xiao Xing still drifted before my eyes from time to time.
If only I hadn’t drunk so much last night…
Luo Hong followed behind me the whole way, still muttering, “My brother’s already so old, and he doesn’t even have a wife. We don’t even mind that the girl is blind, so why do you have to-”
Before Luo Hong could finish, a shrill scream tore out from the room at the end of the hall!
