Chapter 7
“Wang Cheng!”
I called out to him, pulled five hundred yuan from my pocket, and handed it over. “Go find the owner and have him send that girl to a hotel. I’ll pay.”
Wang Cheng still looked a little dazed, but he obediently took the money and went to find someone.
Luo Gui turned to look at me, his eyes so red they looked like they were about to bleed.
I raised a hand and tapped the table. “Come sit with us. We’ll have a drink together tonight.”
Luo Hong looked at me, then at Luo Gui. In the end, he reached out and gave Luo Gui a tug.
It was obvious that until that girl was safely sent away, I wasn’t going to let them walk out this door.
I might not normally want to get too involved with them, but that didn’t mean I was afraid of them.
After Wang Cheng sent the Blind Girl away, Luo Hong, Luo Gui, and I drank until midnight.
Luo Hong clearly attached great importance to this job for the Li Family, and everything he said hinted that he didn’t want any extra complications.
But Luo Gui remained silent the whole time, downing one cup after another. He drank until the veins in his neck bulged, and the way he looked at people grew stranger and more excited.
In the end, Luo Hong couldn’t stand it anymore and dragged Luo Gui off to rest.
I had drunk a bit too much as well. Wang Cheng helped me back to my room, and the moment my head hit the pillow, I fell asleep.
That night, I had a dream.
In the dream, I was sitting in the driver’s seat with the car door open, my eyes closed as I rested.
Then someone walked over. Their voice was a little hoarse. “Driver, when are we leaving?”
I wanted to open my eyes and see who it was, but for some reason, I couldn’t.
That voice asked again, “Driver, are we still not leaving? It’s too stuffy in the bag.”
My heart lurched. I immediately thought of the fish in the car.
Then something slick, cold, and slimy coiled around my neck.
It was like I smelled that foul fishy stench again.
Something brushed against my ear, and a wave of revulsion shot through me. My eyes flew open.
But I hadn’t woken up. I was still in the dream, still sitting in the driver’s seat.
Through the rearview mirror, I saw the thing beside my ear.
I thought it would be a fish head, but it wasn’t.
It looked like a clump of hair, mixed with bits of flesh and fish scales.
Its strands were wrapped around my neck, coated in some sticky fluid.
My body was still a little stiff. I tried to raise my hand and tear away the hair that was gradually tightening around my throat.
Just then, I heard a string of bells ringing.
Was it that blind girl?
Unease surged up inside me. Had she come back again?
The bells rang faster and faster, more and more urgently.
I grew frantic too. She shouldn’t have come back. Luo Gui had already been far from normal tonight!
As that thought flashed through my mind, I regained control of my body and tore the hair from my neck in one hard yank.
My whole body jolted.
This time, I woke up.
