Chapter 13

I drove to the area near the Li Family estate. I was still wondering how I was going to get through security when, to my surprise, the Li Family’s gates were wide open.

I drove straight in-and found Luo Hong and Luo Gui’s car there too!

The Li Family estate, which had been guarded so tightly before, was now deathly quiet. There wasn’t a single person in sight.

I checked several buildings one by one, but there was no one inside. Some of the tables still had half-finished meals on them, as if everyone had left in a hurry.

Could they have taken Lili and Xiao Feng with them? And what about the Luo brothers?

Then I remembered the little path they had used to move the fish tanks.

I found that path and followed it all the way in, until I reached the foot of the mountain.

At last, I heard voices.

I ducked into the roadside grass and looked toward the light.

There was a dark, gloomy cave with several lamps hanging at the entrance.

Young Master Li was there, surrounded by a few subordinates. His face was pale and bluish, but he was still smoking.

“Young Master, we’ve sent everyone else in the residence away. But can that Pi Gui guy really be trusted?”

“Exactly. These past few days we’ve been buying corpses to feed fish, digging this damned cave, and listening to ghosts wail every night. Why hasn’t your illness improved at all?”

“But Young Master does look younger.”

“What’s the use of looking young on the outside? Didn’t you hear that woman surnamed Feng yelling that Pi Gui is using our young master to refine a corpse-”

“Enough!” Li Lun barked, then hurled the cigarette in his mouth hard onto the ground.

“Today, I’m making Pi Gui give me an explanation. If he really dares to fool me, then even if I die, I’m dragging him down with me!”

The men filed into the cave.

That gave me a clearer idea of the situation. It looked like that young man really was Li Xiong’s son, Li Lun.

And those strange fish we’d transported had actually been raised on corpses.

Pi Gui must have known some sort of secret technique and tricked Li Lun into believing he could cure him, making the entire Li Family serve his purposes.

Now, after Xiao Feng had stirred things up, Li Lun was starting to suspect Pi Gui.

That was good. The best-case scenario would be for them to turn on each other and give me a chance to rescue the others.

As I was thinking, two more people came out of the cave.

The one in front was Luo Hong. He and another man were carrying boxes into the cave.

I picked up a wooden stick from the ground and used the surrounding darkness to get close. With one swing, I knocked one of them down.

Luo Hong was just about to shout when I clamped a hand over his mouth and dragged him off to the side!
