Chapter 12
Chapter 12
My dream blurred again.
When sound returned, Lili was alone, clutching the bells and murmuring to herself.
She was still in the crack between the rocks. I had no idea how much time had passed.
“Mom, Sister Xiao Feng said they found a kidney donor. Don’t worry. I’ve saved up a lot of money. Once I get home, we’ll go have the surgery…”
“Mom, do you think Sister Xiao Feng will be okay? Once it’s light out, I’ll run out of here. I’ll call the police. I’ll find people to come save her!”
“Mom, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you worry. That agent said the Li Family would pay a lot of money, so I came…”
Just then, the sound of extremely heavy footsteps suddenly rang out.
Step by step, it drew closer to the crack in the rocks.
Lili’s breathing turned ragged in an instant. In a panic, she grabbed the bells and tried to shake them, but she was too terrified.
Before the bells could make a sound, they slipped from her hands.
The bronze bells rolled into the stone crevice and rang out with a single clang.
The next second, a large blue-black hand abruptly reached in from outside the crack, pushing through the wild grass that had concealed it.
Lili’s mouth and nose were clamped shut. Her eyes widened helplessly, and her entire body was dragged out in an instant.
I jolted awake from the dream. Dawn was just beginning to break, but my heart was restless and uneasy.
It felt as if I could still hear the sound of those bells, faintly ringing beside my ears, as though calling to me for help.
Lili, Xiao Feng…
In the dream, I never saw Xiao Feng’s face. Maybe she was the Blind Girl who had slipped into the Li Family.
If everything I dreamed last night was real, then that string of bells might still be in that crack between the rocks.
I set out first thing in the morning. I remembered the scene from the dream clearly. It shouldn’t be too far from the Li Family’s estate.
By the time I drove to the area near the Li Family, it was already dark. The silence around me was terrifying.
I had thought finding that stone crevice would take a lot of effort. I never expected it to be less than two hundred meters from where I parked.
I reached inside and immediately touched that string of ice-cold bronze bells.
Strangely enough, the sensation of touching those bronze bells felt very similar to touching my own Soul-Whip.
My Soul-Whip had been given to me when I was a child by a Mad Old Taoist I had once saved by chance.
The old Taoist had told me, “A Shura’s face and a Bodhisattva’s heart. In this life, you’re destined to earn your living between yin and yang.”
For the past two years, strange things had been happening around me one after another, and that Soul-Whip had always been tied around my waist.
I took the bronze bells out. Their heavy weight in my hand told me that last night’s dream had been real.
