Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Chongsha is one of the rules of the long-haul trucking trade.
Whenever a new route opens, you always hire an experienced driver with a tough fate chart to make the first run.
Only after the route has been cleared will the other trucks dare to take it. Otherwise, if you rush onto the road, nobody knows what you might run into.
Chongsha is dangerous, but the commission is high, and you can collect a lot of red envelopes on top of that. There are plenty of people willing to do it.
Luo Hong and Luo Gui are among them.
But they are different from the rest. They like snatching jobs, they are ruthless, and their methods for Chongsha are vicious.
Sometimes, when they run into other drivers doing Chongsha on the same job, they will stop at nothing to get the commission first.
I had been set up by them on the road before too, but my master never allowed me to get too entangled with them.
Luo Hong had still been taking solo jobs these past few years. Judging from Wang Cheng’s attitude, he had probably gotten into it with Peng You and was trying to snatch the Li Family’s job.
Compared to Luo Hong, who had a foul mouth and loved stirring people up, Luo Gui was as silent as ever.
Luo Gui was not tall. His hair was sparse, his facial features were unusually large, and his limbs were longer than most people’s.
Those in the circle who knew us would say behind our backs that Luo Gui looked even more frightening than I did.
I was born with a strange appearance. By eighteen, I was already over six foot three, broad and powerfully built, with a terrifying face. People often said I looked like an asura from a temple.
My master once said that if I was an asura from a temple, then Luo Gui was like a real evil ghost that had crawled out of hell.
Though both Luo brothers were loathsome, I hated Luo Gui more.
It wasn’t because of his appearance, but because Luo Gui had been arrested several times for forcible molestation.
“What are you doing here?”
I walked over slowly. “Peng You’s job still has two runs left. You’re early.”
Luo Hong grinned. “Don’t get the wrong idea, Brother Long. We’re not here to steal the job. We signed a new one. The client said there’s a lot to transport on these two runs, so we’ll each take half. Won’t get in each other’s way.”
I turned and looked. There really were quite a few fish to haul this time-over thirty of them.
“Fine. We each run our own load.”
I had no desire to get involved with the Luo brothers any more than necessary. In any case, Peng You’s contract was almost finished. If the Luo brothers were willing to take over, that would save me the trouble.
After the truck was loaded, Wang Cheng and I set off first.
Wang Cheng had been glared at several times by Luo Hong, who had even spat at him. Holding in a bellyful of anger, he started muttering the moment he got into the truck.
I glanced at him and warned, “Luo Hong and his brother have been in this trade for over twenty years. There’s no dirty trick they haven’t pulled.”
“If you see them in the future, take the long way around. Don’t get hotheaded and go looking for trouble.”
Wang Cheng was still young after all. He gave a sullen “Mm,” though I had no idea whether he had actually taken it to heart.
It wasn’t that I liked lecturing people. It was just that there was something truly wicked about the Luo brothers.
