Chapter 132
Chapter 132
“You just what?” Daisy asked sharply. “Is what she’s saying true?”
Wendy finally broke under the immense pressure, weeping as she said, “I just didn’t think anyone would dare to impersonate hospital staff.”
Daisy usually wore a smiling face, so no one expected her to be so terrifying when she was angry.
Wendy trembled. If she hadn’t been held by the Head Nurse’s tentacles, she likely would have collapsed to the floor, her legs turning to jelly.
“I’ve worked at the hospital for so many years, how could I possibly do something like that?” With tear-filled eyes, she winked desperately at Daisy. “Miss Daisy, you should understand my loyalty to the hospital.”
She emphasized the word “loyalty.”
*Idiot.*
Daisy cursed inwardly.
To say such a thing at a time like this-did she think everyone present was a fool?
Tu Nan glanced at Wendy and decided to add more fuel to the fire.
“After those two imposters fled, I immediately ran to the lounge to call security. During that time, there was a gap of several minutes. If Sister Wendy took that opportunity to let Little Red Riding Hood go…”
She sighed. “Sister Wendy, why would you do such a thing?”
“You’re full of shit!” Wendy could no longer maintain her composure, screaming at Tu Nan. “How have I offended you that you’re framing me like this?”
“I’m just proposing the most logical hypothesis.”
Tu Nan spoke timidly, appearing incredibly innocent compared to Wendy.
“Besides, I was the one who made the call. The security guards can testify for me.”
Daisy looked at the security guard with a grim expression.
The guard nodded. “It was indeed this nurse who called us.”
“Little Red Riding Hood was still in the ward when we were on our night patrol, so she could only have left during the period after the patrol.
“Everyone has been stationed at the Nurse Station the whole time. If Little Red Riding Hood had left, it would have been impossible for us to miss it. The only time the Nurse Station was left with only Sister Wendy was while I was in the lounge making the call.”
She spoke at a moderate pace, ensuring everyone present could hear her clearly, her argument both logical and grounded in fact.
“The stairwell is very close to the Nurse Station. Sister Wendy would have had plenty of time to let Little Red Riding Hood go. It also takes time for security to arrive. Little Red Riding Hood is very small; it’s understandable that the guards didn’t find her if she was intentionally hiding during her escape.”
She subtly put in a good word for the security guards, immediately earning their favor and agreement.
“The facts may be exactly as this nurse says,” the guard said in a deep voice. “It takes a few minutes to get here from the security room. Those few minutes were enough for Little Red Riding Hood to escape from the fourth floor.”
Wendy discovered to her horror that she was completely unable to defend herself.
Everything felt like a trap specifically set for her. She didn’t know when she had stepped into it, and by the time she realized it, she was already ensnared.
Tu Nan had an alibi. Out of everyone present, she was the only one who had sufficient time to let Little Red Riding Hood go.
“Why would I do that!” she shrieked. “I have no reason to do that.”
She clutched at this like a drowning person grabbing a life raft, refusing to let go. “I have no relation to Little Red Riding Hood. What reason would I have to do this?”
Wendy’s gaze shot toward Tu Nan like a knife. “It’s you. It must be you. You’re Little Red Riding Hood’s primary nurse. You’re the one who let her go and then framed me.”
“And what reason would I have to do that?” Tu Nan put on an innocent look. “I’ve only known Little Red Riding Hood for about a week. Why would I need to help her escape? What benefit would there be for me?”
“Most importantly, I simply didn’t have the time to help her escape.”
Wendy was momentarily speechless.
Daisy’s gaze grew heavy, her thoughts unreadable.
As for Little Red Riding Hood’s escape, the culprit was undoubtedly in this room, yet the most likely suspect turned out to be one of her own people.
She shot a discreet glance at the Head Nurse, but the woman showed no signs of anything unusual.
Meanwhile, Tu Nan had maintained a facade of innocence from the start, scrubbing herself clean of any involvement.
Could it really have been Wendy?
Daisy wavered, unable to make up her mind.
“Miss Daisy, you have to believe me!” Seeing Daisy’s prolonged silence, Wendy cried out in a desperate attempt to save herself. “Tu Nan is framing me! I am completely loyal to you and the Vice Dean. I would never do such a thing!”
Tu Nan lowered her head, a mocking smile playing on her lips.
If Wendy hadn’t said that, Daisy might have spared her life. But now, as the prime suspect, shouting such words in public was effectively dragging Daisy down with her.
Even if Daisy had her doubts, she would certainly sacrifice Wendy to protect herself.
“Daisy, what does Wendy mean by that?” The Head Nurse immediately seized the opportunity to interrogate Daisy. “Did you order her to do this?”
In that instant, Daisy made her decision.
Since all signs pointed to Wendy and the woman was being this foolish, Daisy had absolutely no reason to keep her around.
Daisy let out a cold laugh. “The fact that Wendy let Little Red Riding Hood escape is already indisputable. To think she would try to drag me down with her-how utterly loathsome.”
“I’m not so sure about that,” the Head Nurse said meaningfully. “You’re very quick to reach a conclusion. Are you afraid of something?”
Hearing Daisy’s words, Wendy realized she had been completely abandoned. A flash of despair crossed her eyes, followed quickly by a surge of resentment toward Daisy.
Since she was doomed either way, she might as well take Daisy down with her.
“Everything I did was on Daisy’s orders!” Wendy screamed. “She told me to let Little Red Riding Hood go! She even said that after this was over, she’d find a way to oust the Head Nurse and let me take her place!”
Daisy’s pupils constricted. She couldn’t believe Wendy would be stupid to this extent.
Tu Nan kept her head down, desperately suppressing the urge to smirk.
She hadn’t expected this unexpected bonus.
Watching them turn on each other was truly a spectacle.
The others in the office lowered their heads one after another, wishing they could find a hole to crawl into and escape this den of trouble.
They were just low-level employees; hearing such secrets would bring them no benefit.
“Daisy, how do you explain Wendy’s words?” The Head Nurse sneered, her large eyes fixed on Daisy with an oppressive weight.
Daisy composed herself. “Wendy has clearly gone mad. She’s raving; not a single word she says is credible. Since we’ve found the person who let Little Red Riding Hood escape, just lock her in the Solitary Confinement Room.”
“I will be reporting today’s events in full detail,” the Head Nurse said sternly. “It’s late now. Everyone is dismissed.”
Daisy glared fiercely at Wendy, who had collapsed weakly onto the floor.
“Security, take her to the Solitary Confinement Room.”
As Wendy continued to scream, Daisy produced a handkerchief from somewhere and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Mmph! Mmmph!” Wendy’s eyes widened, staring at her in terror.
Daisy’s expression was hideous. If looks could kill, Wendy would have been hacked into a thousand pieces by now.
Wendy suddenly realized she had played an incredibly foolish move.
Unfortunately, Daisy was not going to give her another chance.
