“Oh?” Daisy raised an eyebrow. “She really said that?”
“Yes,” Wendy nodded with certainty. “I was right behind them and heard it with my own ears. Tu Nan was even taken away by the Head Nurse.”
Daisy smiled brightly, such that no one could tell she was the one who had spread the word about Tu Nan badmouthing the Head Nurse.
“The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Looking at it that way, she might be worth bringing over to our side,” she mused.
“The Head Nurse is always opposing you. We have to find a way to kick her out…” Wendy whispered.
“What’s the rush?” Daisy shot her a glance. “She relies on Priestley’s support and has always enjoyed contradicting me. Priestley, in turn, loves to play the peacemaker, so I can’t move against her position for the time being.”
“However…” She paused, giving Wendy a half-smile. “Once she’s gone, I will naturally have my father save her position for you.”
Wendy beamed with joy. “Then I’ll thank you in advance, Miss Daisy.”

“My god, that’s the first time I’ve seen the Head Nurse so angry.”
“Scared the life out of me. I’m still breaking out in a cold sweat.”
Two nurses walking past were talking with their heads down, not noticing the others.
“Ladies,” Daisy called out to stop them, asking with a beaming smile, “what were you two just talking about?”
They looked up. Seeing it was Daisy, their expressions shifted. One of them forced a smile and said, “It’s nothing. We just came from the Head Nurse’s Office and were startled by her reprimanding a nurse, that’s all.”
“Reprimanding a nurse?” Daisy’s eyes widened slightly, showing a sympathetic look. “Who was so unlucky?”
In the eyes of most, although Daisy was the Vice Dean’s daughter, she was a lively and adorable girl. Hearing her say this, one of the nurses added, “It’s a nurse who hasn’t been here long, named Tu Nan.”
“Yeah, yeah,” the other one chimed in. “She offended the Head Nurse. I think her chances of becoming a permanent staff member are slim.”
Daisy frowned slightly, looking extremely pained as she let out a sigh. “I heard the Head Nurse has been scheduling her for consecutive night shifts. I’m afraid she’s intentionally tormenting her… Oh-”
She covered her mouth, looking as if she had spoken too quickly.
“I’m just talking nonsense. Please don’t tell the Head Nurse, ladies. She already has some misunderstandings about me. If she hears this, she’ll probably hate me even more.”
No one likes a boss who retaliates against subordinates.
The two nurses’ expressions changed. They gave strained smiles, promised not to spread it, and quickly hurried away.
Daisy watched their retreating backs, the corners of her mouth curling up.
“Miss Daisy, about tonight’s night shift…” Wendy asked hesitantly. “Tonight is surgery day, and Tu Nan is responsible for Little Red Riding Hood. Should we…”
Daisy rested her chin on her fingertips, thinking for a moment. “There’s still some time before tonight. No rush.”

Tu Nan walked out of the Head Nurse’s Office with red eyes, walking forward with her head down.
The whispers around her were like knives stabbing into her. Shame and resentment made her lower her head even further, not daring to look up and see the mocking expressions of others.
Suddenly, she bumped into something.
Tu Nan looked up with some irritation, but couldn’t help but freeze when she saw the person in front of her.
“Daisy?”
Daisy was holding a stack of documents, looking at her with a worried face. “Tu Nan? Are you okay? You look terrible.”

“Here,” Daisy handed her a cup of water. “Have some water.”
“Thank you.” Tu Nan took the water, took a sip, and managed a weak smile. “I’m glad you’re here. I feel much better.”
“Don’t be too sad,” Daisy comforted her. “The Head Nurse may have a bit of a temper, but I’m sure she didn’t mean it on purpose.”
A flash of resentment crossed Tu Nan’s eyes. As if afraid of being noticed, she turned her head slightly to hide her emotions.
“I know.” Although she forced herself to act as if nothing was wrong, her voice still betrayed a slight, irrepressible tremor. “I’m afraid I have no chance of becoming a permanent staff member now.”
After saying that, she covered her face and fell silent.
“You don’t need to be sad.” Daisy took all of this in, reaching out to pat her back in comfort. “Actually, it’s not completely hopeless.”
“She’s my direct superior. Now that I’ve offended her, how could there be any chance for me?” Tu Nan’s voice sobbed behind her hands.
“Actually, I never told you, but my father is the Vice Dean.” Daisy’s voice took on a coaxing tone. “If I go to my father and plead for you, maybe he’ll agree to help.”
“Really?” Tu Nan looked up, tears still wet in her eyes, but they didn’t stop a glimmer of hope from emerging. “You’re really willing to plead for me?”
“Of course,” Daisy nodded. “Aren’t we good friends?”
She paused. “Besides, I also feel the Head Nurse has gone a bit too far.”
Tu Nan didn’t speak, but her chest heaved slightly, showing her emotions were far from calm.
Daisy sighed. “I don’t know why, but even though we’re all working for the hospital, the Head Nurse always targets me.”
Tu Nan spoke understandingly, “She’s probably jealous of how popular you are. Then again, with a personality like hers, who would like her?”
“Maybe that’s it.” Daisy put on a troubled expression, looking as if she wanted to say more but hesitated. “It’s just…”
“There’s one thing I have to say.” Daisy hesitated for a moment before finally making up her mind. “It’s one thing for the Head Nurse to target me, but she…”
“What did she do?” Tu Nan asked.
“There are many patients in the hospital who finally get a chance for surgery, only to offend the Head Nurse somehow. She then tries everything in her power to stop them.” Daisy’s eyes grew slightly moist. “I truly couldn’t bear it and argued with her a few times. Maybe that’s why she holds a grudge against me.”
Tu Nan was shocked by the sheer level of her brazenness.
She gritted her teeth, showing no outward sign of anything unusual.
“She… she’s actually that kind of person?” Tu Nan said with disgust. “How utterly inhumane.”
