Chapter 121
Chapter 121
“The Strange Tales Hospital is a unique existence within the entire Fairy Tale Strange Tales world. At the very least, we are currently powerless to change any of it.”
Tu Nan fell silent for a moment. “I understand. But there is one person I must…”
“As long as you don’t go too far, one or two people won’t attract its attention. You may do as you please,” Priestley shrugged. “However, due to the constraints of the Rules, I cannot provide you with any convenience. You’ll have to rely on yourself.”
Priestley’s hint was already quite obvious, so Tu Nan smoothly shifted the topic. “Are there any patients with heart conditions in the hospital recently?”
“As a nurse, I should be allowed to know the answer to that question, shouldn’t I?”
Priestley crossed his legs and gave her a half-smile.
“Of course.” This was the kind of information one could gather with just a little bit of attention; telling Tu Nan wouldn’t affect him much. “There is indeed a Noble Young Master in urgent need of a heart transplant. Moreover, just now, someone informed me that a matching heart has been found.”
As expected.
No wonder Eva’s expression had been so abnormal this morning. Daisy had appeared to be comforting her, but in hindsight, it looked more like a veiled threat.
A Noble Young Master in desperate need of a heart transplant-how could it be such a coincidence that a Boy with a “bad heart” was admitted to the hospital today?
Then, was the Head Nurse’s insistence on checking the report an attempt to protect that boy?
But there was nothing wrong with the report. According to the hospital’s regulations, the boy’s admission was perfectly legitimate.
“Well? Did you gain anything?” Priestley asked curiously, watching her shifting expression.
“Not yet.” Tu Nan thanked him and stood up to leave.
“I’m leaving this Instance,” Priestley suddenly said.
Tu Nan stopped in her tracks and looked at him with slight surprise.
“Time’s just about up. The rest is up to you,” Priestley said, his smile fading. “I hope we meet again.”
“Of course,” Tu Nan said calmly. “I will complete the mission.”
“You should know that the maximum stay in an Instance is half a month, right?”
By her count, she had only been in this Instance for four or five days.
She still had plenty of time.
*
Daisy was undoubtedly biased toward the hospital. Since the Head Nurse was at odds with her, did that mean the Head Nurse disapproved of the hospital’s unspoken rules?
Little Red Riding Hood had no power or influence; she was just an ordinary little girl. The Head Nurse stood to gain nothing from her, so why give her that medication?
Tu Nan suddenly remembered something she had overlooked.
In He Ling’s dream, He Ling’s emotions had indeed stabilized after taking the medicine. This showed that the drug did have a sedative effect. As for the hallucinations caused by the drug, if utilized correctly, they might not be as terrible as she had imagined.
Little Red Riding Hood had lost emotional control after Xia Xia’s death and developed violent tendencies. According to the Fairy Tale Hospital’s standard procedures, such a patient would require immediate surgical intervention. However, because of the Head Nurse’s medicine, Little Red Riding Hood’s condition was ostensibly under control. Although she suffered from hallucinations, to an outsider, she was merely sitting quietly at the table playing with building blocks.
Such a quiet, non-aggressive patient was at least relatively safe in the hospital as long as there wasn’t a patient in urgent need of a matching organ.
So, was the Head Nurse really doing this to protect Little Red Riding Hood?
Then why did York have that medication as well?
Tu Nan racked her brains but couldn’t find an answer. Left with no other choice, she sought out He Ling.
He Ling had been in the hospital for a full year; from any perspective, she knew the Head Nurse far better than Tu Nan did.
“The Head Nurse and York?” He Ling looked confused when she heard the question. “What made you think of York all of a sudden?”
Even now, mentioning the name “York” made her tone turn somewhat resentful.
“Yes. Did they have any interactions before?” Tu Nan asked. “Any time at all.”
“…There seemed to be something.” He Ling thought for a moment, finally digging a useful piece of information out of a corner of her memory.
“Weichun was the nurse responsible for York. She told me one day that while she was accompanying York on a walk, an octopus approached him. The two of them talked for quite a while.”
“Because it was the first time she had ever seen a talking octopus, she found it very novel, so she remembered it clearly. When that octopus saw York, she said to him, ‘I have a deal I want to make with you.'”
Tu Nan’s spirits lifted. Her intuition told her this was a very important lead.
“What kind of deal?” she pressed.
He Ling shook her head. “Weichun only heard that one sentence before York sent her away.”
“Didn’t you all know the Head Nurse back then?” Tu Nan asked in surprise.
“The Head Nurse back then was someone else; the current Head Nurse took over the position later,” He Ling shrugged. “You know, even in the Strange Tales, a talking octopus is rare enough.”
She lowered her voice as she spoke, afraid of being overheard.
Tu Nan felt as if she were finally grasping the edges of the truth.
“Where did the Previous Head Nurse go?” she asked.
“It’s strange, actually,” He Ling said with a frown. “The Previous Head Nurse was found to have violated the hospital’s rules and regulations and was fired. Her position was then taken over by the current Head Nurse.”
“Violated the rules and regulations?” Tu Nan’s eyes flickered. “Which ones?”
“I’m not sure about that. However, there might be records in the Archives Room.”
The Archives Room?
Tu Nan lowered her gaze. Was she going to have to use her old tricks again?
*
She had stolen the key to the Archives Room once before in a dream; this time, doing it felt even more natural.
Taking a lesson from her previous experience, she significantly increased the dosage of the drug used to knock out the Octopus Head Nurse, ensuring she would remain unconscious until the next morning.
Opening the door to the Archives Room, she searched for the files with practiced ease.
The records at Fairy Tale Hospital were very detailed. It didn’t take her long to find the file for the Previous Head Nurse.
The records showed that the Previous Head Nurse was a young lady. The reason she had been dismissed by Fairy Tale Hospital was because…
Tu Nan looked at the words on the file, her brow furrowing slightly.
[Attempted to help a patient escape the hospital.]
And that patient was none other than her old acquaintance-York.
It was unexpected, yet somehow it made perfect sense.
After the Former Head Nurse was fired, the current Head Nurse immediately stepped into her position. And before that happened, she just happened to find York and tell him she wanted to make a deal.
Tu Nan found it hard to believe there wasn’t a single connection between these events.
Since she was already there, Tu Nan simply pulled out the Octopus Head Nurse’s own file and began to flip through it.
