Chapter 83

“Begin mission settlement.”

[Mission settlement in progress]

[Congratulations to task-taker Zhu Yin for completing the main mission as an imperial consort. Assessing mission progress]

[Mission completion assessment complete. Rating: “Perfect.” Base reward: 1,000 points. Perfect-rating bonus: 30%. Total points earned: 1,300]

[Task-taker Zhu Yin has earned the recognition of every major character in the plot and unlocked the achievement “Great-Granny of Overwhelming Martial Virtue.” Reward: 500 points]

[Task-taker Zhu Yin has obtained the title “Ancestor of Great Yong.” While wearing this title, you can make anyone believe that you are a royal of extraordinary origins]

A question mark practically appeared over Zhu Yin’s head. She said to Barbara, “The achievements and titles from our World-Hopping Bureau really do come in every bizarre variety, huh?”

What possible use was this gaudy Ancestor of Great Yong title? Pretending to be a member of royalty?

Ordinarily, mission settlement ended there. Zhu Yin had only made an offhand complaint and thought no more of it.

Unexpectedly, the light screen that should have vanished erupted with golden radiance so bright that she instinctively narrowed her eyes.

[Task-taker Zhu Yin has unlocked the hidden achievement “A Sovereign’s Regret.” Description: You helped erase a wise sovereign’s lifelong regret and anguish. Reward: 300 points]

[Task-taker Zhu Yin has unlocked the hidden achievement “A Flourishing Realm.” Description: History shifted under your influence. This golden age was built in part through your strength. Reward: 1,000 points]

[Task-taker Zhu Yin has unlocked the hidden achievement “Favored by Destiny.” Description: Your involvement allowed the Immortal Spirit Spring, an artifact bestowed upon the female lead by destiny, to achieve its greatest possible effect and benefit the common people. Reward: 500 points and 10 merit]

[Congratulations, Host, on receiving the hidden item reward “Immortal Spirit Spring Water”]

“Ah!” Barbara meowed wildly in excitement. “A legendary hidden achievement! Host, it is a legendary hidden achievement! And a legendary hidden item reward too!”

Such things were even rarer than a Perfect assessment.

The rewards alone made that obvious. The points granted by these hidden achievements exceeded the rewards for completing one or two entire world missions. And there was an item reward on top of that.

At the same time, a clear chime sounded beside Zhu Yin’s ear.

Barbara exclaimed excitedly, “I leveled up!”

It hurriedly checked on its Host and, sure enough, Zhu Yin’s employee rank had also risen by one level.

Zhu Yin had little interest in points. She studied the transparent bottle that had suddenly appeared in her hand.

The bottle was crystal clear and delicate, as exquisite as a work of art, and filled with transparent spring water.

A line of text appeared on the light screen: “Immortal Spirit Spring Water (Gold): An immortal spring that will never run dry. Said to come from an immortal land free of worry and fear. It neutralizes all poisons; prolonged consumption extends life and tempers the body’s innate potential.”

The inexperienced system was shocked once again. “A Gold-quality item?”

And it was not an external object like a weapon, but something that could enhance its Host’s own strength. A quick search of the System Store showed that this was a treasure no amount of points could buy!

Zhu Yin produced a cup, poured herself some, and remarked with faint distaste, “It has no flavor.”

Barbara: “…”

Another cup was offered to it. “Can systems drink this?”

Barbara froze briefly, then clasped the cup between its two little paws. “Systems are not flesh-and-blood life-forms, so drinking this will not help. But Barbara is still very happy!”

Ding-dong.

Barbara received another notification.

It looked down and discovered that its Host had transferred the entire vast sum of points from this mission directly to it.

Barbara, which had never seen such a fortune, jumped in fright. “H-H-Host! Why did you give it to me?”

Zhu Yin drained the flavorless spring water in one gulp. Her mind was already turning over the question of whether using it to refine medicine might produce any pleasant surprises.

At Barbara’s question, she answered casually, “Oh. Pocket money for you.”

Without thinking, Barbara tried to transfer the points back, only to discover that its Host’s account was set to reject one-sided transfers.

She rejected not only transfers but messages as well, and had therefore missed a great many recruitment offers.

After Zhu Yin emerged from this mission, not only did several task-taker organizations from the World-Hopping Bureau want to meet her, but even internal divisions of the Bureau wanted to poach her.

Even while playing a supporting role, she repeatedly earned Perfect assessments and could trigger hidden achievements.

With ability and fortune like hers, she clearly belonged in our Protagonist/Villain/Overpowered Hero… Division!

In any case, she did not resemble a supporting character!

The supervising system of the Supporting Role Division, which knew part of the inside story, watched its colleagues argue themselves hoarse with cold indifference and smiled elegantly. Hah. She carefully selected the Supporting Role Division herself. If any of you can poach her, this system will concede defeat.

Thus, after the supervising systems of every division argued for ages without reaching a decision, they finally resolved to contact Zhu Yin’s system and ask for her own opinion. Only then did they receive the news: she had already entered another mission world.

Heavens!

She had only just completed a mission and had not rested at all!

Nor had she used any of the emotion-storage devices in the rest area.

Was this Host an iron-forged workaholic?

.

Spring sunlight shone brilliantly.

A woman in black stood on a lush mountain path, holding a beautiful pink kitten.

Her skin was very pale, and even her lips lacked color, as if she were chronically ill. Yet her eyes were extraordinarily dark and bright. How could someone long confined to a sickbed possess eyes that gleamed like frigid stars?

The woman was, of course, Zhu Yin.

This was not her original body, but it strongly resembled her, like a model constructed with her body as its template. It fit her reasonably well.

She was about to set out and collect two little ones.

Her disciples in this life.

Barbara was still cheering. Now that it and its Host had leveled up, the mission roles they received were slightly more important than before!

Zhu Yin’s identity in this world was a person with no known origins.

That was right. The world’s background had not assigned her an identity at all.

No one knew her name or where she came from.

She was like someone who had appeared from nowhere and found two swaddled infants at the foot of a cliff.

She took in the two children as disciples, taught them, and raised them.

Sixteen years later, the grown children embarked on the path of immortal cultivation.

Only after completing their studies and returning did they learn that shortly after they left for the immortal sect, enemies had come to the door. The master who had raised them for sixteen years was brutally murdered without even an intact corpse left behind.

These two children were the male and female leads of this world.

The story was a passionate progression fantasy. Burdened by a blood feud, the two youths entered an immortal sect, pursued the Great Dao, avenged their grudge, and climbed toward supremacy upon the immortal path.

The role Zhu Yin would play was the person who gave them warmth for the first sixteen years of their lives.

An ordinary cultivator at the Foundation Establishment stage.

She would exit the story through death when the male and female leads entered the immortal sect, triggering a piece of their backstory.

It really was a slightly more important supporting role than before.
