Chapter 63
Chapter 63
The moment Zhu Yin stepped out of the car, a crowd rushed over and surrounded her.
Most of the people from the villa knew her, or had at least seen her once or twice. Right now, every one of them looked at the doctor as though she were their savior.
Zhu Yin asked with a bright smile, “What is everyone doing out here?”
The butler swallowed and answered quickly, “N-nothing. The weather is nice, so we came out to enjoy the sun!”
“That’s right! We’re all out here enjoying the sun!”
As he spoke, the butler secretly looked toward the master and mistress standing nearby, only to find the spot empty. There was nothing there.
He quietly breathed a sigh of relief. The doctor could not have arrived at a better time!
He asked, “Doctor, what brings you here?”
Zhu Yin said, “Oh, Mr. Li mentioned before that I should come regularly to examine his wife. It’s time for her scheduled checkup.”
An-an examination?
The butler’s face went pale. He secretly tugged at the doctor’s sleeve and tried desperately to save her. “The madam is doing extremely well! She’s perfectly healthy! Those of us who stay at the vacation villa every day know best. There’s no need for an examination!”
The doctor had just saved their lives! The butler did not want her going anywhere near that thing.
The other servants nodded vigorously. “That’s right, Doctor. There’s no need for a checkup. Mr. and Mrs. Li are both doing very well!”
The butler tried to flee outright. “Doctor, everyone at the vacation villa has the day off today. If you stay, there won’t even be anyone to cook for you. We’re about to go out for a group meal. Why don’t you come with us?”
Zhu Yin shook her head. “When I drove up just now, I thought I saw Mr. and Mrs. Li. They should be home, right? I’ll go find them.”
The butler: “…”
He wiped his face. Sorry, Doctor. I tried.
You’re the one insisting on going inside. I’m certainly not accompanying you to your death.
He made one final effort. “Maybe Mr. and Mrs. Li want some time alone together. Why don’t we leave them undisturbed?”
Zhu Yin acted utterly oblivious. “I’ll go ask.”
The butler sighed mournfully. “Doctor, I’ll remember you for the rest of my life.” He decided that once he got out, he would make an anonymous police report. Hopefully, there would still be time to save her.
With that, the butler turned and ran. The other servants followed close behind, as if a vicious ghost were chasing them.
Zhu Yin burst out laughing.
Liu Ruyan, who had vanished moments ago, reappeared with Li Nanfeng.
She bowed her head deeply, not daring to look directly at Zhu Yin. “My Lady.”
Zhu Yin said, “I came to take a look. You both seem to be doing well?”
Liu Ruyan turned to glance at her husband, her voice sweet. “He belongs entirely to me now, body and mind. I’m very satisfied.”
As soon as she said it, Zhu Yin saw the mission progress bar shoot forward by a huge amount.
Zhu Yin looked at Li Nanfeng. “What about you, Mr. Li? Are you happy to be with your Ruyan?”
The man’s hair had returned to black, but his eyes had lost all spark. He responded mechanically, “I’m very happy with Ruyan. We’ll be together forever.”
The mission progress did not react at all.
Zhu Yin stared hard at it. As if forced to endure pressure it should never have faced, the progress bar finally crept forward a short distance, reluctant and resentful.
“Seeing how loving you are puts my mind at ease.” Zhu Yin clapped her hands. “To celebrate your happy union, I’ve prepared a gift.”
A tiny figure climbed out of the car.
Liu Ruyan’s eyes widened in delight. “Niannian!”
The fair, tender little boy walked steadily and looked no different from an ordinary child.
But Liu Ruyan knew at a glance that Niannian was now the same as her.
She grieved for one brief second, then quickly smiled again and bent to pick up her son.
“Niannian is the same as Mommy now. That’s good too. This way, our family can live happily together forever.”
“Come. Let Daddy hold Niannian.”
The man obediently bent over and took his son.
The little boy giggled. His arms locked tightly around the man’s neck and squeezed with deadly force, even as he called “Daddy” in a sweet, soft voice.
Zhu Yin turned, got back into the car, and left the family’s “reunion” undisturbed.
The conversation between mother and son drifted to her ears.
“Niannian, let go. You’ll break Daddy if you do that.”
“Daddy is bad! Daddy dug out Niannian’s heart. It hurt so much!”
“Good Niannian, don’t cry! Then be gentler. Don’t crush him, or Mommy won’t be able to put him back together…”
“…”
Barbara covered its little ears, not daring to listen any longer.
It sat in the car and glanced back as they drove away. The luxurious villa stood quietly amid green mountains and clear water, wreathed in black fog, its resentment soaring into the sky.
The kitten immediately turned its head back. Even one more glance was torment.
.
The rumors raging through Haicheng finally subsided when Mr. Li personally appeared in public with his lovely wife and young son.
The only people who had glimpsed any part of the truth were the servants who escaped the vacation villa. They ran to the police station to make a report, but the instant they opened their mouths, they forgot what they had wanted to say.
When the police questioned them, they looked utterly confused. They thought it over again and again for a long time before apologizing awkwardly and leaving.
Several years later, Wanwan’s child developed health problems again.
She returned to the Li family’s villa. No one knew what terrifying thing she saw there, but when she came out, her personality had changed completely. She became deranged and often muttered, “There are ghosts” and “I was wrong.”
Her family took her and her son abroad, where they were soon committed to a psychiatric hospital. She had always been sickly, and in that environment, she lasted less than two years before dying.
The “changed” Liu Ruyan became the unquestioned ruler of the Li family, and Li Nanfeng obeyed her every command. Li Nanfeng’s parents, who had treated her very poorly, became obedient after she dealt with them several times. Whenever an outsider mentioned their daughter-in-law, however, their faces turned terrified and ugly.
All sorts of strange new rumors about the Li family spread through Haicheng.
Meng Qingqing originally intended to visit the doctor for more gossip, but when she arrived at the hospital, she learned that the doctor had resigned.
Her WeChat account had been deleted, and she seemed to vanish into thin air. No one ever saw her again.
Barbara stared dumbfounded as the progress bar slowly swayed its way to one hundred percent.
“That actually worked?”
“Why wouldn’t it?” Zhu Yin retorted. “Just tell me whether the male and female leads got their wishes.”
In the end, the male and female leads lived happily ever after. Not even death could part them.
Their dead young son also returned to their side, and the family was close and loving.
Liu Ruyan and Niannian might exist in slightly unusual forms, but this was perfectly in keeping with the happy ending desired by this deranged world, wasn’t it?
Barbara thought about it carefully and found itself unable to argue.
Zhu Yin spoke as if seeking praise. “Besides, I also saved an innocent family.”
In the original plot, Liu Ruyan was reborn in a strange young woman’s body.
The young woman had fallen into a vegetative state after a car accident. Her family never gave up hope and maintained her life with the best care money could buy.
Young, beautiful, from a wealthy family, and dearly loved by her relatives–the original plot had carefully selected this perfect new identity for Liu Ruyan.
The young woman’s affluent background even delighted Li Nanfeng’s parents, who had tormented their previous daughter-in-law at every turn.
But what had the young woman’s family done wrong?
The child they treasured above all else had her body occupied by someone else, then lost her head and chose an older man entering his second marriage, with a beloved late wife and an idealized love.
If they learned the truth, they would probably fight someone to the death.
Zhu Yin stretched in satisfaction. “Come on, Barbara. We’re done here!”
