Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The three sat in the hotel suite Han Qingzi had booked.
This arrangement originally suited Shen Dongjun perfectly. It would have been even better if a certain uninvited person were absent and he were not at risk of saying strange things.
In truth, Han Qingzi was not entirely clearheaded either. She was still immersed in the shock Shen Dongjun had just given her.
None of the three spoke.
Zhu Yin was the “outsider,” so naturally it was not appropriate for her to speak first.
Shen Dongjun did not dare speak. Who knew what earth-shattering words his mouth might produce next?
Han Qingzi had no choice but to ask, “Why did you both come?”
Zhu Yin said, “I followed the Young Master.”
Those large eyes, soft as mist, settled on Shen Dongjun.
His back tightened.
He opened his mouth and said softly, “I came to take you home.”
Han Qingzi’s heart softened, though tenderness mingled with hurt and bitterness. “Who was it that told me to leave and never come back?”
Shen Dongjun replied, “I spoke in anger without thinking. What I truly wanted was to take your hand, hold you, and keep you from leaving.”
Zhu Yin: Oh!
After delivering that long confession, Shen Dongjun closed his eyes in pain.
At the same time, however, he had to admit that after saying it, his heart felt faintly lighter, as though a heavy boulder had finally settled to the ground.
If Han Qingzi had merely been shocked before, she now truly wondered whether she was dreaming.
In her lifetime, she had actually heard Shen Dongjun say such things?
She opened her mouth, but before she could speak, mist rapidly gathered in her large eyes.
She looked pitiful and moving.
Shen Dongjun’s entire attention was drawn to her. Then he suddenly remembered something.
He turned around. His expression immediately hardened, and he said without courtesy, “Butler Zhu Yin, Qingzi and I have some private things to discuss. Isn’t it inappropriate for you to remain here?”
Han Qingzi’s face abruptly flushed red.
As for Shen Dongjun, Zhu Yin knew that although he appeared calm, he had already died inside a little while ago.
If she listened any longer, the tyrannical CEO might drag her into mutual destruction.
Knowing when to stop, Zhu Yin obediently rose. “Then I won’t disturb you. Young Master, Young Madam, please continue.”
After leaving the hotel, she did not want to trouble the chauffeur and was about to hail a car back to the Shen residence.
A shadow fell over her. A flashily colored luxury car stopped beside her feet.
The window lowered, revealing a vaguely familiar face.
“You’re my big brother’s new lover?” the newcomer asked arrogantly. “Get in.”
Now Zhu Yin knew why he looked familiar. The young man’s features resembled Shen Xin’s and also bore some similarity to Shen Dongjun’s.
Combining the resemblance with his form of address, Zhu Yin understood his identity: the illegitimate son Shen Xin doted on most outside the family.
He was no one important and had even less to do with her mission.
Zhu Yin immediately lost interest and replied perfunctorily, “Who are you? Don’t know you. Not getting in.”
Wen Zong’s eyes widened. The woman did not even spare him a glance, and humiliation and anger surged within him.
Shen Xin had been promiscuous in his youth. As he aged, he had not settled down completely, but he had restrained himself considerably. He was fond of Wen Qiuye and now spent most of each year living at her place.
With Wen Qiuye and their two children, he truly looked as though he had a family.
For a time, this gave Wen Zong the impression that he was no worse than Shen Dongjun. In fact, Wen Zong had their father’s affection, while Shen Dongjun had barely seen their father a handful of times since childhood.
Though he was an illegitimate son, he had been favored since childhood. Shen Xin gave him money generously, and his life was no worse than that of an ordinary young master from a wealthy family.
But the better he lived, the more clearly he understood what a colossal power the Shen family was.
His father merely let a little wealth slip through his fingers to Wen Zong’s mother, who then passed it on to him, and even that was enough for overwhelming luxury. How much, then, would Shen Dongjun receive when he inherited the Shen family’s commercial empire?
They were both their father’s children. Why could Wen Zong only pick up these scraps while Shen Dongjun received everything without giving anything in return?
He refused to accept it!
After joining Shen Group as an intern, his resentment reached its peak.
His mother had told him to study at Shen Group and accumulate credentials. Yet every day, he was assigned nothing but menial errands. Never mind core operations; he could not even touch files of any importance.
He had secretly made inquiries. Back then, Old Mr. Shen had personally guided Shen Dongjun, who had never gone through any stage of “gaining experience at the bottom.”
Wen Zong went to Shen Xin and made a scene. Shen Xin usually spoiled him and indulged his every wish, but when it came to Shen Group, he showed no leniency at all.
In a fit of anger, Wen Zong simply stopped going to work. Shen Xin said nothing about it.
He had heard that a new butler had recently arrived at the Shen residence. Though young, she was exceptionally beautiful and no less attractive than a female celebrity.
Most astonishing of all, she had successfully remained at the Shen residence. Shen Dongjun had not driven her away!
Wen Zong’s information was ultimately inferior to his father’s. Shen Xin would never tell his son about something as humiliating as Zhu Yin’s ridicule. Consequently, Wen Zong still believed that this “Butler Zhu Yin” was a lover Shen Dongjun had installed in his home.
One of Shen Dongjun’s lovers dared show him such disrespect!
Anger surged through Wen Zong. “I told you to stop! Didn’t you hear me?”
The figure ahead genuinely acted as though she had heard nothing and gave him no reaction at all.
Hot blood rushed to Wen Zong’s head, and he stepped directly on the accelerator. He had not truly decided to hurt her. He was merely upset and intended to frighten the arrogant woman.
Barbara screamed in terror, “Host, he’s going to run you over! Ahhh–”
Only then did its host turn around, unhurriedly.
Seeing her finally react, Wen Zong felt smug. He thought, You think I can’t handle you? He silently decided to teach Zhu Yin a lesson she would never forget.
At that moment, his gaze happened to meet Zhu Yin’s eyes.
Wen Zong’s vision wavered. He could not help thinking that the sunlight must be too fierce today. He had actually begun hallucinating. Had that woman’s eyes just turned red?
Bang!
Pedestrians screamed. Many nearby cars stopped, their occupants getting out to see what had happened. Someone called the police…
Many people had seen the luxury car, worth several million, suddenly accelerate and swerve inexplicably into the guardrail.
Fortunately, no innocent pedestrians were hurt, though the car itself suffered considerable damage.
Zhu Yin heard people around her discussing the incident and speculating whether the driver had been drunk or taken some illegal substance.
She walked to the roadside and quietly waited for the ambulance to arrive.
After some thought, she took out her phone and made a call.
“Hello, Young Master. Please don’t hang up yet. This is a serious matter.”
First, she politely apologized. “I deeply regret interrupting your time with the Young Madam.”
Only then did she continue, “Here’s what happened. There’s been a small problem. Your younger half brother was in a minor car accident…”
