Chapter 15

Relying once again on his powerful connections, Qi Ming managed to contact Zhu Yin.

He said he was entirely sincere and could resolve the issues with the Shen family for her.

Everything was ready. All Zhu Yin needed to do was nod, and she could set out on the road to stardom without a single concern.

Qi Ming came to this meeting brimming with confidence. He could not imagine any reason Zhu Yin might refuse.

But Zhu Yin truly did refuse.

“Why?!” Qi Ming was so shocked he wanted to tear out his hair. “I don’t understand!”

Zhu Yin sensed the middle-aged man’s disappointment and despair washing over her like a tide.

She said, “A person should have some aspiration after coming into this world, shouldn’t they?”

Qi Ming nodded vigorously. Most people pursued nothing more than fame and fortune. What he had laid before Zhu Yin was a shining road leading straight to both.

Zhu Yin assumed a solemn expression. “My goal in this world is to become a perfect butler who satisfies her employer. This is my lifelong aspiration!”

Qi Ming: “…”

Zhu Yin said solemnly, “Money and fame are far too vulgar!”

“…”

Talent Scout Qi left in a daze.

Somehow, Old Mr. Shen learned about the matter. He praised Zhu Yin extravagantly and even called his grandson specifically to commend her, announcing that he would give her a raise–a massive one!

And why wouldn’t he?

Zhu Yin had not been with the Shen family long, yet even he knew that his grandson and granddaughter-in-law were now nearly inseparable. Whenever he asked, the older staff at the Shen residence all said the butler deserved much of the credit.

Shen Dongjun had mixed feelings.

Especially when Old Mr. Shen finished by reminding him, “Butler Zhu Yin is young. She’s bound to be spirited and may lack tact. Don’t bully her.”

Him, bully her?

Shen Dongjun felt thoroughly amused.

After hanging up, he planned to speak with Zhu Yin, only for Auntie Xu to tell him that the butler had the day off. No one had seen her since early morning, so she had probably gone out to play.

Shen Dongjun: Oh. Right. He had forgotten.

Auntie Xu wore an indulgent smile as she spoke. Their new butler still seemed like a child. She loved fun and excitement, vanished every day she had off, and always returned with a huge pile of gifts to distribute among them.

At that moment, the butler in question stood at the entrance to City A’s largest food street. This was the old district of City A, less tidy and less imposing than the new district.

But snack shops packed both sides of the street, and the air overflowed with the warmth of everyday life and the spicy fragrance of hot food.

Zhu Yin inhaled deeply and proclaimed, “I’m going to eat from one end of the street to the other!”

Good children did not keep treats to themselves. Systems could not taste food from the physical world, so Zhu Yin bought Barbara a taste-experience card on credit. Barbara was moved to tears.

Woman and system demonstrated astonishing prowess on the food street. Back at the Shen residence, Shen Dongjun had also taken the day off and planned to spend it with his wife.

Unfortunately, the pleasant atmosphere was soon ruined.

Shen Xin arrived.

That alone was dreadful enough to put every servant in the Shen residence on high alert.

Whenever Shen Xin came, the Young Master inevitably lost his temper. When the Young Master lost his temper, they inevitably worked overtime.

Of course, overtime was not so painful now. The new butler was a good person. When they worked extra hours, she truly paid them–and several times the usual amount!

Today, Shen Xin had not come alone. Behind him was a slender, attractive middle-aged beauty who retained much of her charm.

Everyone at the Shen residence recognized her at once and instantly tensed. This was very, very bad!

The person following Shen Xin was Wen Qiuye.

Shen Dongjun despised Wen Qiuye. This was not because she was Shen Xin’s favorite, but because he detested every one of his father’s mistresses equally.

Of course, compared with them, he found Shen Xin even more disgusting.

And naturally, the only thing more disgusting than seeing Shen Xin was seeing Shen Xin together with his mistress: twice the contamination.

Such a scene sent his memories surging backward twenty years, to when he was at his youngest and most powerless.

Back then, all he could do was watch scenes like this. He could only watch his mother wither little by little like a flower deprived of nourishment.

Of course, his mother had died of illness, and Shen Xin was not the primary cause. But as her son, he could never forgive a man who ignored his bedridden wife and devoted himself only to pleasure and chasing women outside their marriage.

“Why are you here?” He frowned. “You aren’t welcome here!”

Displeasure appeared on Shen Xin’s face. He did not actually want to come. Wen Qiuye had pestered and begged him for a very long time before he finally relented in exasperation and brought her here.

After so many years of luxury beside Shen Xin, Wen Qiuye was ordinarily flattered as a “wealthy madam” wherever she went and had developed some of the bearing of a refined lady.

But whenever she encountered Shen Dongjun, she always felt somewhat intimidated.

She knew that if she came alone, she probably would not even get through the front gate. That was why she had insisted on wearing Shen Xin down until he accompanied her.

“Eldest Young Master.” She held Shen Xin’s arm and spoke gently. “I know you dislike me. If this matter were not truly important, I would never dare disturb you here.”

Shen Dongjun did not fall for it. His thin lips curled. “What do your affairs have to do with me? Auntie Xu, see them out!”

Wen Qiuye bit her lip, then abruptly raised her voice. “I don’t mean anything else, Eldest Young Master. Your younger brother broke his leg and is still recovering! You share blood. Do you truly feel no concern for him?”

Shen Dongjun frowned and stared at her. “What delusion are you spouting? What shared blood? Are you asking me to hire someone to set off a string of firecrackers outside the hospital?”

Wen Qiuye nearly reeled from anger. She stopped pretending to be gentle, and her voice cooled. “I checked the surveillance footage. Before Zong’s accident, he spoke to your butler. I suspect that his accident had something to do with her.”

“Where is she? I have questions for her.”

So that was why she had come.

Shen Dongjun sneered coldly. “If you think there’s a problem, call the police.”

Wen Qiuye: “…”

Of course she wanted to. But the footage showed the pair exchange a few words before the woman walked away.

Then Zong suddenly accelerated and crashed into the guardrail.

It appeared to have nothing whatsoever to do with Zhu Yin, but Wen Qiuye still felt it could not be that simple.

She wanted to meet the woman herself.

Shen Dongjun scoffed. “Do you think you can meet someone from the Shen family whenever you please?”

“Auntie Xu.” Shen Dongjun glanced impatiently at his wrist. “Don’t waste any more time.”

He had specially set aside this time for a date with Qingzi. He would not let two pieces of filth waste it.

Auntie Xu called Xiao Ding and several others over, prepared to carry the visitors out if words failed.

“Shen Dongjun!” Wen Qiuye shouted. “I, Wen Qiuye, may be nobody, but Wen Zong is your half brother and carries Shen family blood. Can you truly not bear to see him well?”

“She’s only a butler. Is she more important than your brother’s life?”
