Chapter 5
Chapter 5
By the time Zhu Yin arrived, the husband and wife were already at daggers drawn.
Her time reversal had caused a few minor aftereffects, but unexpectedly, it also did a great deal to ease the relationship between the two leads.
In the blink of an eye, another two days passed.
“Butler, the Young Master wants to see you.”
Shen Dongjun truly lived up to his reputation as a workaholic. The moment the aftereffects subsided and the dizziness stopped, he went straight to his study to deal with work.
“Young Master.”
At the sound of that voice, Shen Dongjun’s back involuntarily stiffened.
He said nothing, merely scrutinizing Zhu Yin with a sharp gaze.
Zhu Yin looked back in confusion.
The two stared at each other for quite some time. Zhu Yin did not find it tiring, but Shen Dongjun was the first to crack.
He coughed, quietly clenched a fist, and asked coldly, “What exactly are you?”
Zhu Yin smiled. “What are you talking about, Young Master?”
Shen Dongjun hesitated, which was rare for him. He was not sure whether the scene he had witnessed was real or merely a hallucination born of the strange dizziness that had plagued him over the past dozen days.
But he would never let it show.
He merely leaned forward and stared fixedly at Zhu Yin. “I saw something appear in your hand out of thin air.”
After that had come the strange sense of déjà vu and that bizarre, dazzling world.
It completely overturned everything he had believed for more than twenty years!
Zhu Yin was astonished. She studied him carefully with fresh eyes.
She knew Shen Dongjun’s spiritual sensitivity rating was high, but she had never expected him to remember scenes from within the time reversal.
After some thought, she asked, “Would you rather hear me make up an excuse, or should I simply erase this memory?”
Shen Dongjun: ?
He wanted to call the police immediately.
Zhu Yin said, “If you call the police, everyone will think you’re insane.”
Shen Dongjun withdrew his hand from the screen, suppressed the shock and suspicion in his heart, and glared coldly at her.
“Don’t be nervous.” Zhu Yin spread her hands. “I didn’t mean to hear your thoughts, and I don’t usually enjoy doing it. I don’t harbor any ill will.”
“I come from an extraordinary place. My mission is to serve as the butler of the Shen residence. Far from harming you, I’ll protect your safety.” Oh, and their love as well.
Barbara’s mouth had fallen open in shock. Granted, it was a rookie without much experience.
B-but it had never heard of a World-Hopping Bureau host who revealed her identity the moment a mission began!
Shen Dongjun did not believe her. “Is that the excuse you made up?”
“No,” Zhu Yin said. “What I just told you was the truth.”
She gave him a sincere smile. “You’re the first person I’ve served in this job. I like both of you very much.”
Shen Dongjun said coldly, “I don’t believe you.”
Zhu Yin thought for one second, then took out her battered little clock.
This time, she made no effort to hide it. Shen Dongjun’s eyelid twitched violently. “What are you doing?”
Zhu Yin obligingly answered, “Don’t you already know? If you refuse to cooperate, I can only erase this memory again…”
“That won’t be necessary!”
Shen Dongjun’s face turned livid. For the first time, he understood what it meant to be utterly powerless.
Throughout his life, no matter how powerful his opponent, he had never known fear or hesitation.
But the woman before him lay completely beyond his understanding!
How was he supposed to face an opponent who was bizarre, powerful, incomprehensible, and unreasonable?
At the slightest disagreement, she could erase his memory. Forget fighting her–he would not even have the chance to try!
He forcibly suppressed his anger and said in a deep voice, “What do you want? Money, status, power… I can do my best to give you any of them.”
Zhu Yin gave him a strange look. “What would I want those things for?”
Shen Dongjun said, “If you don’t want those things, why did you come to the Shen family? They’re all I can give you.”
Zhu Yin said, “Haven’t I already told you? I came to be your butler!”
The system watched the conversation in fear and trepidation. In the end, it watched the male lead dismiss its host, his face turning livid, then pale, then livid again. Anyone with eyes could see how stifled and aggrieved he felt.
With reverence on its face, it asked cautiously, “Host, it looks like we’ve fallen out with the male lead. What are we going to do?”
Zhu Yin asked, “What do you mean, what are we going to do?”
“He knows there’s something unusual about your identity. What if he targets you and makes things difficult for you in the future…” Barbara’s voice grew quieter and quieter as it also realized something was wrong with that line of thought.
Right. How was the male lead supposed to make things difficult for its host?
Barbara fell silent. It seemed there really was not much to worry about, huh?
The atmosphere at dinner that evening was peculiar.
Shen Dongjun and Han Qingzi sat at the dining table while Zhu Yin stood a short distance away, wondering where she should go have fun after work.
This was perfectly normal. The servants did not dine with the family they served.
Shen Dongjun had always been accustomed to this arrangement, yet he seemed restless.
A mysterious being who might not even be human had come to his house to work as a butler and seemed to enjoy it immensely. The thought alone was terrifying.
His attention wandered again and again. Even Han Qingzi noticed.
Thinking he felt unwell, Han Qingzi hurriedly asked how he was doing.
Zhu Yin looked over as well.
Shen Dongjun met her gaze, looked away, and told Han Qingzi, “From now on, stay away from that butler.”
He had said harsher things before. If that thing truly wanted to harm him, he had no idea how to resist it. Since that was the case, what did he have left to fear?
Han Qingzi disapproved. “You seem to have seriously misunderstood Zhu Yin.”
Standing on the other side, Auntie Xu agreed wholeheartedly. Butler Zhu Yin was such a wonderful child.
For the past half month, she had seen how much care Zhu Yin devoted to the Young Master’s illness. Without the diet the butler had arranged, his dizziness might not have cleared up so quickly.
Shen Dongjun was exceptionally perceptive. He sensed the disapproval of everyone around him.
Just as he thought: the thing was skilled at bewitching people.
He did not argue.
The next day, he secretly visited a highly renowned monk within his social circle who was said to possess great spiritual powers.
The monk received him warmly. After learning why he had come and listening to his detailed account, the monk gently advised him to believe in science and avoid overworking himself.
Shen Dongjun: “…”
He returned home with an ugly expression.
When he arrived, he saw the butler racing the family’s large golden retriever across the lawn. The setting sun gilded her figure as she grinned with a rather foolish look on her face.
He could not help wondering whether someone like that had truly come to the Shen family with some sort of scheme.
He recalled calling his grandfather to ask about Zhu Yin’s origins. No flaw whatsoever could be found in her identity. Fortunately, he had expected as much and was not disappointed.
He decided to wait and observe.
He could afford to wait, but someone else could not.
Shen Xin asked Zhu Yin to meet him.
Zhu Yin saw the caller’s name, thought for a moment, and agreed.
She openly asked Shen Dongjun for leave and arrived at the meeting on time.
“Shen Xin?” Shen Dongjun did not believe for a moment that there was any connection between them.
As if that idiot could possibly enlist someone like Zhu Yin.
Nevertheless, he sent someone to follow her. He wanted to see what Shen Xin was up to.
