Chapter 62

Zhu Yin was moved by her own words for a moment after she finished.

She thought, I’ve already left the company, yet I still remember to recommend new employees to my former workplace. I should have demanded a bigger reward back then.

Barbara did not dare speak or ask a single question. It became a little system that had heard nothing at all.

.

Back to the plot.

Li Nanfeng was delighted to discover that Ruyan’s condition seemed to have improved.

The servants caring for her said the madam had been much calmer today and no longer resisted whenever they approached.

Li Nanfeng opened the door tentatively. The woman inside slowly turned her head and gave him a calm glance.

Li Nanfeng was both surprised and overjoyed. Ever since the incident with Niannian, Ruyan had not been able to bear the sight of him. The moment she saw him, she became severely agitated and hysterical.

“Ruyan?” he called gently.

Liu Ruyan looked at him indifferently and did not answer.

But Li Nanfeng was already satisfied. He took it as a sign that Ruyan’s attitude was softening.

Now that they had made a start, if he apologized sincerely, Ruyan would forgive him one day.

He was far too naive.

Liu Ruyan’s steadily improving behavior caused her guards to relax their vigilance. They even began accompanying her on walks in the garden outside.

Ten days later, on the night of the full moon, Liu Ruyan changed into a bright-red dress and silently ended her life in the room.

The talisman she had kept against her body gave off an ominous black light, absorbing all the hatred and resentment in its host and transforming them into purer energy.

This was an ordinary little world where no supernatural power existed. After ordinary people died, their souls dispersed into particles of light and returned to heaven and earth.

That was why Zhu Yin had been so surprised when Barbara said the male and female leads’ first child could reincarnate in the original plot.

The energy within the talisman attracted the particles of Liu Ruyan’s soul before they could disperse and gathered them together again.

Above the dead body, a pale-faced woman in a red dress opened her eyes, her hair black as night.

Too much hatred and resentment had mingled with the power that rebuilt her soul. The newly born female ghost could barely control her baleful aura. She could not help licking her stark-white teeth.

“Rein it in,” a calm voice said beside her ear.

Liu Ruyan stared in terror at the figure gradually emerging from the darkness.

It was the doctor!

A human saw the world entirely differently from a ghost.

The ordinary, unremarkable doctor Liu Ruyan had once known now appeared as dense darkness, a boundless beast. Through the haze, she seemed to glimpse a pair of blood-red eyes. With only that indistinct glance, her newly condensed soul nearly crumbled into dust on the spot!

Overwhelming terror made the female ghost, who had only just gained control of her power, tremble. She almost flattened herself into a sheet of paper as she lay on the ground, head lowered, not daring to look directly at the other being.

Her mind, which worked far worse as a ghost than it had while she was alive, thought dimly, I was recklessly bold and deserved to die. How did I dare shout at Her when I was alive?

“Liu Ruyan.” Zhu Yin’s voice came from above. “See what your death has caused.”

The darkness receded, leaving Liu Ruyan alone.

She looked around in confusion and found the place familiar. It was the very villa where Li Nanfeng had confined her while she was alive.

Li Nanfeng…

As she murmured the name, the female ghost’s long hair rose without wind, like hideous tentacles.

She bore hatred for that name deep in her bones. Alongside it came agony etched into her soul, and an attachment that could never be erased.

She could not help moving closer.

Several familiar servants passed through her body and shivered, whispering with pale faces.

“Has Mr. Li gone mad?”

“The madam has been gone for days, and he’s still sitting there holding her body.”

“It gives me the creeps every time I bring him food.”

One of them drew a sharp breath. “Now that you mention it, why does it feel so eerie in here?”

“Stop saying things like that!”

A younger nanny curled her lip. The woman’s dead. Who is he putting on this great show of devotion for? She had worked for the Li family for several years, and while the madam was alive, she had never seen Mr. Li treat her particularly well.

Back then, she had even privately marveled at how much the madam could endure for the status of being a wealthy family’s wife.

Liu Ruyan listened blankly. Had she truly been dead for many days already?

She floated toward the room, unable to control herself.

The furnishings inside were as familiar as ever. Two people lay on the bed. The woman was Liu Ruyan herself, her face a terrifying bluish white no longer belonging to the living.

And the man…

Liu Ruyan stared. H-his hair had turned completely white as snow!

Had grief over her truly reduced him to this?

The resentment surrounding her seemed to dissipate slightly, but it soon surged back.

“No!” Her expression turned cold and obsessive as another train of thought awakened inside her. “Men are despicable! Li Nanfeng is even worse! He’s this heartbroken now that I’m dead, but when I was alive, his idealized love was still the most important person in his heart!”

She stared greedily at the man on the bed. “Heh… Promises can’t be trusted. I have to tie him up, bind him to my side, and swallow him into my belly. Only then will he be faithful to me forever, love me forever, and stay with me forever…”

In her office, Zhu Yin watched her computer screen.

To outsiders, the doctor was watching a currently popular variety show. Only Barbara knew this was no variety show. It was a live broadcast.

Ever since its host intervened, the system had remained utterly dumbstruck. It could not offer the slightest suggestion or assistance.

“I told you she was madly in love!” Zhu Yin wore a supremely confident expression that said, Just as I expected–I’m brilliant. “Even a ghost rebuilt from this much resentment can’t bear to take the male lead’s life.”

They kept watching.

The madam’s corpse had come back to life!

The servants in the Li family’s vacation villa turned deathly pale. Abandoning their paychecks and everything else, they ran outside as though their lives depended on it.

People outside might not know the news, but how could those who worked at the villa not know?

How many days had the madam been dead? Even her color had changed. How could a person like that come back to life?

It was a ghost!

Yet their legs could not carry them through the main gate. At some point, a vast white fog had risen outside and enveloped the entire villa.

No one could escape.

“What are all of you doing?” A gentle female voice came from behind them.

Everyone turned in terror. The mistress of the house, who should have been dead, held Mr. Li’s arm with a beaming smile. Her pitch-black eyes regarded them eerily. “Why are you running? Does the Li family not treat you well enough?”

The butler, whom the servants shoved to the front: “…”

Help! How was he supposed to answer a question where the wrong response meant death?

He had used connections to secure the position of butler at the Li family’s vacation villa. Though the scenery was beautiful, the location was extremely remote, and the Li family visited perhaps once a year.

When no one was there, he controlled every matter large and small. There was little work to do, and the pay was excellent. He had bragged countless times on online forums about his heavenly job.

Heavenly job, my ass! So this really was purchased with years off his life?

Cold sweat nearly rolled from the young slacker butler’s brow. He tried to appeal to Mr. Li for help, only to see Mr. Li standing intimately with an arm around the waist of that thing, whatever it was, his gaze vacant.

One look and it was obvious he was finished!

Completely useless!

“No, we…”

Just as he was almost overcome with despair, the sound of a car engine came from beyond the white fog.

Hmm?

An understated silver-gray sedan broke through the dense mist and slowly approached.

As the car arrived, the heavy white fog gradually dispersed, and sunlight once again fell over everyone’s heads.
