Chapter 44
Chapter 44
Everyone watching the livestream froze.
Holy shit. They had only been mouthing off.
Had they really drawn out the Supreme Rule?
Not only had it appeared, it had directly erased someone.
That was outrageous!
The foreigners lurking in Longguo’s livestream nearly wet themselves in terror.
What kind of backing did Longguo have? Someone reported them for cheating, and nothing happened.
Longguo reported someone, and that person was physically erased.
Was the Horror World Longguo’s own father?
The foreigners were furious but dared not speak. For a time, the atmosphere in Longguo’s livestream became exceptionally civilized.
Inside the zoo,
the four white lions faced the bizarre shadow.
Neither side attacked.
Both appeared to be waiting for Su Chen’s final decision.
Su Chen was in no hurry. With the white lions supporting him, the shadow did not dare touch him for the moment.
He could use the opportunity to perfect his subsequent plan.
His eyes suddenly lit up as a possibility occurred to him.
“System, if I clear the scenario now and exchange the points I earn for rewards, will those rewards disappear after I reload?”
Su Chen asked inwardly.
[Rest assured, Host. The rewards will not disappear!]
Su Chen’s eyes shone brighter at the system’s reply.
Hadn’t he found the key to breaking the deadlock?
“Can you tell me how many points I can exchange for with the number of rules I’ve deciphered?”
[Host has currently deciphered 98% of the rules. Based on current completion and scenario difficulty, the evaluation is S-rank and may be exchanged for 1,000 points.]
A smile appeared on Su Chen’s face.
“Open the System Shop.”
He continued speaking to the system in his mind.
A screen visible only to Su Chen appeared before him.
His eyes swept rapidly over the merchandise.
Then he helplessly dragged the scroll bar downward.
He had not expected the items in the System Shop to be so expensive.
One thousand points seemed like a great deal, but in reality they could buy relatively little.
Items flashed before Su Chen until his eyes narrowed.
He stopped scrolling.
If used well, the item before him could be extremely useful.
After some thought, Su Chen combined it with his earlier plan and managed to work out a practical blueprint.
Only one final step remained.
Su Chen closed the system interface and grinned at the shadow.
He took the badge from his pocket and pinned it cleanly to his chest.
The shadow could no longer restrain itself.
It erupted in a piercing scream
and lunged directly at Su Chen.
At the same time, the four white lions roared at the sky and pounced together.
They intercepted the shadow, and the two sides fought.
Shrieks split the ears and lion roars shook the heavens. Amid the fierce struggle, great swaths of trees crashed to the ground.
Su Chen was deeply shocked by the dust-filled battlefield.
With this much commotion, were they filming a fantasy action movie?
He was also slightly relieved that his ears had already been injured.
Otherwise, the roaring might have left him senseless.
Seeing that neither side could quickly prevail,
Su Chen entered the inner room of the director’s office.
He soon found a dust-covered telephone directory inside a cabinet.
He shook off the dust and opened it. The contact details he sought appeared on the first page.
Operations Department, Director, Zhang Heng, telephone 131…
Finance Department, Director, Jiang Tian, telephone 182…
Coordination Department, Director, Lin Fei, telephone 156…
…
Su Chen took out his phone and composed a text message.
[My name is Su Chen. I have now inherited the position of zoo director and am reporting this to the organization. I would like to ask how much funding I may use. Please reply as soon as possible.]
Then he aimed the camera at the badge and took a selfie.
He sent the message and photograph to the entire group.
He did not call because he was still deaf.
Ten minutes passed without any reply.
Su Chen frowned anxiously.
“Could the organization already be finished?”
His mind filled with doubts.
He looked through the window at the battle outside.
The fighting remained intense, and huge sections of woods had been flattened.
Even the bluestone slabs from the path had been hurled onto the roof of the director’s office.
The shadow had grown somewhat dim and appeared injured.
But the four white lions were in poor condition too. Every one bore many wounds.
One even had a broken foreleg.
As the situation slid toward disaster, Su Chen grew increasingly anxious.
His phone screen suddenly lit up.
Jiang Tian from the Finance Department was calling.
Su Chen answered immediately and spoke before the caller could.
“My ears are injured, so I can’t hear you. Reply by text. I need to know how much funding I can apply for.”
He moved the phone away and watched the screen.
The call soon ended. Apparently, the person on the other end had heard him.
Half a minute later, his phone flashed again as Jiang Tian’s text arrived.
[I have reported your succession as zoo director to the organization. A designated employee will contact you shortly to verify your identity. Regarding your question, the organization will do its utmost to reimburse in full any expenditure used to resolve the zoo’s supernatural problem, regardless of the amount.]
Su Chen grinned at the reply.
The organization was generous. The words “regardless of the amount” delighted him.
He understood that they meant they would do their best to solve his funding needs, not supply literally unlimited money.
But that was enough.
With this money and an item from the system,
he was entirely confident he could remodel the zoo successfully.
As the saying went, money could even make ghosts turn millstones!
Smiling, Su Chen left the director’s office and headed toward the battlefield.
“Stop fighting! Pause and listen to me.”
He raised his voice in a shout.
His words proved surprisingly effective.
The four white lions retreated first and withdrew from the fight.
The shadow clearly wanted to stop as well and did not pursue them.
All four beasts and the shadow looked at Su Chen.
