Chapter 5

Once he recovered, Yamashita Kenichiro recalled what had just happened.

His expression darkened.

He glared venomously at Lamb as the man fled into the distance.

The contestants had descended into chaos.

However, the citizens of the countries represented by the rabbit-petting Chosen Ones were even more frantic.

Kimchi Nation’s livestream was a complete madhouse.

“Fuck! Kim Siba deserves to die! How dare he be the first to test the rule?”

“It’s over! Disaster and horrors are about to descend on our country! Please, anywhere but Shouer City!”

“Kill his entire family! Make them join our suffering citizens in death!”

“Serves you right! That’s what you Kimchi Nation scum get for setting up Longguo! Karma caught up with you!”

“Don’t celebrate yet, Longguo dogs. Your idiot won’t live much longer either. If he isn’t dead in ten minutes, I will be!”

……

At the same time, the president of Kimchi Nation made a phone call.

“Arrest Kim Siba’s entire family. Don’t let any of them escape. If necessary, hand them over to appease the public.”

“Understood. I’ll handle it immediately.”

After hanging up, the president of Kimchi Nation slammed a palm onto the desk before him.

“Damn that Kim Siba!” he roared.

Unlike the fury in Kimchi Nation, Longguo’s livestream was filled with cheer.

“They say fools have fools’ luck. The ancients never deceived me.”

“Kim Siba got exactly what he deserved. Not only did he accidentally help us, he even threw his own life away.”

“Heaven bless Longguo! Heaven bless Su Chen!”

“Go, Su Chen! Keep believing the black text is right and you’ll definitely clear the scenario!”

……

Su Chen could vaguely hear the sound of a child laughing from far behind him in the Rabbit Enclosure.

As the laughter continued, he gradually felt as though something had locked its gaze upon him.

His mind slowly grew foggy and confused.

Then he suddenly remembered Rule Eight.

[If you hear a rabbit laughing, tear the dotted section off the map and keep it in your hand. Do not let go until you have completely left the zoo.]

He hurriedly took out the map and tore off the bottom-right section along the dotted line.

He clutched the piece of paper tightly in his hand.

As soon as it touched his palm, the sensation of being watched gradually receded.

Su Chen let out a long breath.

It seemed his luck was good.

The black text was correct!

The immediate danger was gone for now.

Su Chen held the dotted section of the map and strode forward.

Before long, a sign for the Primate Enclosure came into view.

Su Chen recalled the relevant rules once more.

After making sure he remembered them clearly, he stepped into the Primate Enclosure.

Back in the Rabbit Enclosure.

The contestants were in chaos, staring in terror at the people still petting rabbits.

Several contestants reacted quickly, including those from Sakura Nation and Ugly Nation.

They had already realized that the blue text might be a trap.

They hurriedly followed Rule Eight and tore off the dotted part of their maps.

They gripped the paper tightly in their hands.

Just then, the situation changed without warning.

The four grotesque eyes on Kimchi Nation’s contestant, Kim Siba, gradually returned to normal.

The rabbit ears on top of his head, however, did not disappear.

He picked up the rabbit and walked toward a staff member in a black uniform who had been watching nearby.

“I want to hand in this rabbit.”

Kim Siba looked the staff member in the eyes and spoke in a rigid voice.

The staff member in black took two steps back.

“Put the rabbit on the ground and give me your map,” they said, their voice trembling slightly.

“All right.”

Kim Siba’s voice returned to normal.

He nodded.

Then he obediently did as instructed.

The staff member in black took the map and carefully tore off the dotted section.

Then he fed the torn piece to the rabbit.

The rabbit looked famished.

The moment it saw the paper, it opened its mouth and began gnawing.

Before long, it had eaten every last scrap.

The next instant, the eerie laughter sounded again.

This time, however, the laughter held a hint of displeasure and confusion.

At the same time, the staff member in black stopped paying attention to Kim Siba, turned, and ran.

They bolted toward the Primate Enclosure.

Kim Siba watched the fleeing employee with bafflement.

His hand rose unconsciously to scratch his head.

Strangely, it passed straight through the rabbit ears atop his head.

It was as though his hand and the ears existed in different dimensions.

The sight stunned everyone watching from a distance.

“Yamashita Kenichiro, are my eyes playing tricks on me? Did you see what Kim Siba just did? Didn’t his hand pass straight through those rabbit ears?”

“Lamb-san, your eyes are fine. I saw it too.”

“How can that be? Are these all illusions meant to frighten us?”

“It’s possible. That may be the challenge of this horror scenario. Following the blue text produces extremely disturbing but harmless illusions, frightening us into making the wrong choice. If so, the blue text is actually correct. But we can wait and see what happens to the others in the shade.”

“You’re pretty clever for someone from a vassal state. That makes sense. We’ll wait.”

Lamb burst into laughter.

Then he gave Yamashita Kenichiro a heavy slap on the back.

The blow made Yamashita stumble and nearly drop to his knees.

The chill in Yamashita Kenichiro’s eyes deepened.

The faces of the others in the Rabbit Enclosure gradually returned to normal as well.

Each of them picked up the rabbit before them and began searching for a staff member.

But the only nearby staff member in black had already run away.

They could not find anyone at all.

Left with no alternative, they carried their rabbits forward at a slow pace.

They hoped to find a staff member as they continued their tour.
