Chapter 3

At that moment, Longguo’s livestream was alive with heated discussion.

The instant the viewers saw Su Chen put the map away, they grew anxious.

“Su Chen only glanced at the rules a few times before putting them away. Don’t tell me he actually believed Rule One!”

“That makes sense. How else could he have memorized all the rules so quickly?”

“Guys, we’re screwed. Go look on Weibo. Someone posted Su Chen’s personal information. It looks like something’s wrong with his head.”

“Fuck, don’t do this to Longguo! How are we supposed to survive if our Chosen One is an idiot?”

“Last time our Chosen One got screwed over by those little Kimchis and little Bakas. This time we get an outright idiot. Does Heaven want Longguo destroyed?”

“Why the fuck couldn’t that moron Su Chen have died sooner? He just had to get selected as the Chosen One and drag me down with him. I want to take a sledgehammer to his ancestral grave!”

“The idiot’s an orphan, poster above. You really wouldn’t be able to find his ancestral grave.”

……

The viewers saw Su Chen’s personal information posted on Weibo.

Wails of despair immediately filled the livestream.

More and more people learned the news.

Many of them could not stop themselves from hurling abuse.

After all, people became irritable when they fell into despair.

At that moment, inside the conference room of the Longguo Department of Supernatural Affairs.

Elder Qin stared unblinkingly at the rules on the screen.

With his back to the others, he asked in a grave voice.

“What did the computer’s analysis of these rules show?”

“Based on the logic of rule worlds, we can exclude the possibility that all the black and blue text is false. And because many of the events described in the rules have not yet occurred, we cannot calculate the probability that some of the black text is correct or that some of the blue text is correct. This comparison therefore covers only the three likeliest cases!”

“According to the computer analysis, the probability that the blue text contains the correct rules is 41.77 percent. The probability for the black text is 22.33 percent, and the probability that both the black and blue text are correct is 35.9 percent.”

The young man in square-framed glasses read the figures aloud from the data in his hands.

After hearing them, Elder Qin turned to face the others.

“What do you all think?”

“Judging by the usual difficulty and our past experience, the passages marked in blue are always the correct choices. It should be the same this time.”

An old man with graying hair was the first to answer.

“I think so too. If the blue text is false, the rules are a little too sinister. There is no reason for the difficulty of this horror scenario to suddenly spike.”

“Agreed.”

“I agree as well.”

Everyone voiced their assent.

Elder Qin nodded without saying anything.

The gray-haired old man then suggested, “From the look of Su Chen, he must have believed Rule One. Should we warn him now to trust the blue text?”

Elder Qin frowned.

He, too, felt that the blue text contained the right answers.

As long as Su Chen followed its instructions, he would surely clear the scenario.

Yet Elder Qin still vaguely sensed that something was wrong.

Especially when he looked into Su Chen’s eyes.

Those clear, profound eyes did not resemble those of the slow-witted man described in the investigation at all.

For some inexplicable reason, a trace of trust in Su Chen arose within Elder Qin.

“Let’s wait. We can decide after the intelligence department gathers the next round of information.”

Elder Qin rejected the suggestion.

Meanwhile, Kim Siba, Kimchi Nation’s contestant, smiled as he studied the rules in his hands.

“These rules are rather interesting, but they can’t stump me. I’ve already seen through them!”

“In all the previous scenarios, the blue text always contained the correct answers. Although the blue text looks strange at first glance this time, the very fact that it’s strange proves it’s correct.”

“That’s exactly how the Horror World operates. It wants to frighten us so we won’t dare obey the correct rules!”

“I’m a genius!”

Kim Siba silently analyzed the situation.

With that thought, he turned and swept his gaze over the other Chosen Ones.

Most were still scratching their heads and racking their brains.

He could not help sneering and privately cursed them for their stupidity.

Then he suddenly noticed Su Chen from Longguo.

Su Chen had put the rules away and was now studying the zoo entrance with keen interest.

After a moment’s thought, Kim Siba understood.

The fool had clearly taken Rule One seriously.

How stupid!

His eyes shifted as a good idea occurred to him.

He put on a friendly smile and walked over to Su Chen.

“Hello, Chosen One of Longguo. I’m Kim Siba from Kimchi Nation. First, I want to express my deepest sympathy over the death of your country’s previous Chosen One.”

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify something for the people watching from Longguo. Your contestant’s death truly had nothing to do with me. As your neighbor, I am more than willing to help Longguo.”

“To prove my sincerity, I can help your Chosen One clear this scenario.”

“I heard Longguo only has seventy points of national fortune left. Don’t worry. I’ll tell you which rule is correct.”

After speaking, Kim Siba patted Su Chen on the shoulder with the air of a kindly older brother.

His words caused a memory to surface in Su Chen’s mind.

The last rule-based horror scenario had been a rock-climbing scenario. Longguo’s contestant had enjoyed smooth progress and overcome every obstacle along the way.

But at the final moment, Kim Siba and Yamashita Kenichiro of Sakura Nation had gotten down on their knees and begged for help.

Longguo’s contestant had taken pity on them and revealed a hidden rule.

Yet after the two were saved, they had not thanked Longguo’s contestant.

Instead, they sought to seize a higher finishing position.

They secretly damaged his rope, causing his death.

As those memories returned, Su Chen narrowed his eyes, and a cold gleam flashed through them.
