Chapter 43

Su Chen suddenly grinned.

He picked up the badge and made as though he would pin it to his chest.

The shadow went completely berserk.

Its hysterical scream rang through the entire zoo.

Su Chen bore the brunt of it. Blood streamed endlessly from both ears.

As the blood dripped down, the whole world fell silent to him.

He had lost his hearing!

Yet Su Chen did not stop. He opened the badge’s pin.

He wanted to force the other party to act,

because he did not understand how “It” could attack and kill him directly.

That did not fit “Its” underlying logic.

Logically, “It” relied on cognitive contamination.

Even on the few occasions when “It” killed directly, “It” had not violated “Its” own cognition.

When “It” attacked the security guard, for example, “It” relied on the belief that the elephant was a whale and should live in water.

When “It” killed many Chosen Ones in the Aquarium, “It” had likewise relied on “Its” cognition concerning jellyfish.

Su Chen had exploited precisely that point, breaking “Its” cognition with words and escaping alive.

Now the other party was directly threatening to kill him.

He had to understand why.

After reloading, he would truly have only one life. He had to be cautious.

Without ninety-eight percent confidence, he had no intention of gambling with his life.

As the badge drew closer to his chest, the shadow grew increasingly solid.

The blazing light in the security office struck the shadow, only to twist and vanish as though captured by a black hole.

Bone-chilling cold spread from the shadow, and the room’s temperature plunged.

Su Chen shivered. Every hair stood on end, and his teeth chattered uncontrollably.

His instincts detected murderous intent.

His fingers stiffened, and he stopped.

“It really intends to attack? That threat wasn’t empty!”

Su Chen frowned. This differed greatly from his expectations.

Did the other party possess another trump card?

He thought briefly but could not understand.

Nor did he dare continue provoking it.

Su Chen put the badge into his pocket and offered a gentle smile.

“Don’t be nervous. I was only joking. Put that power away; I’m freezing to death.”

He spoke with a cheeky grin.

Strangely enough, the shadow truly seemed responsive to gentleness rather than force.

When Su Chen yielded, the bone-chilling cold slowly dispersed.

The temperature in the security office returned to normal.

Seeing the other party stop, Su Chen sighed in relief.

The badge was clearly an obsession for “It.” He could certainly use that to pry information from “Its” mouth.

“Well, I can deal with the badge for you, but first I have a question.”

“Ask.”

The toys swiftly formed the single word on the wall.

The other party appeared delighted that Su Chen had yielded.

“Let me explain my guess first. Logically, you can’t kill people in violation of your own cognition. So why could you try to kill me just now? According to your cognition, I’m a primate.”

Su Chen asked directly.

The other party now held an overwhelming advantage and did not know Su Chen had another life.

According to the usual thinking of a great villain, shouldn’t it show off once its scheme succeeded?

What a waste it would be to create a perfect situation through exhaustive planning and have no one with whom to share it!

Su Chen believed it would certainly reveal its trump card.

“Because once you put on the badge, you’re a white lion.”

The toys moved rapidly to form the sentence.

As the words appeared, the shadow even scratched its head in a remarkably human gesture,

as though wondering why the other party would ask such a stupid question.

Su Chen froze at the explanation.

Then shame rose in his heart, and even his face reddened slightly.

Fuck. After being clever all his life, he had committed a stupid mistake at the end!

The letter had recorded it clearly. Old Zhou and the others had all transformed into white lions to fight “It.”

In “Its” eyes, every director was naturally a white lion.

Fighting desperately to kill a threatening white lion was perfectly normal.

Yet he had foolishly tested “It” for so long and pushed it into a frenzy, injuring his own ears in the process.

What a terrible loss!

Su Chen quickly recovered from his shame, because a new problem had appeared.

His brows gradually knitted.

He now understood “Its” logic for killing him, but he had no way to prevent it.

The moment he put on the badge, he became a white lion in “Its” eyes, and “It” would attack with lethal force.

Was this a joke?

He did not possess the special abilities of the previous directors.

Inheriting the position would be pure suicide.

The situation was still impossible.

As Su Chen struggled to devise a solution, he suddenly felt waves of hot breath behind him.

At the same time, the black shadow grew solid again, releasing waves of bone-chilling cold.

The other party had assumed an attacking posture once more.

What was happening?

Why had it suddenly gone mad again?

Su Chen was completely confused.

Then something occurred to him.

Perhaps something had arrived behind him, and because his ears were injured, he had not heard it.

Su Chen slowly turned.

An enormous lion’s head came into view.

Startled, he hurriedly stepped back twice.

How had this creature left the Lion Enclosure on its own?

Then Su Chen looked behind the white lion.

Three more white lions were walking toward him through the nearby woods.

Their heavy footsteps displayed the bearing of kings.

The four white lions gathered beside Su Chen and faced the shadow from a distance.

At that moment, the clouds in the sky miraculously parted.

Pure white moonlight spilled across the woods and illuminated the four white lions, making them appear exceptionally holy and sacred.

The largest and strongest lion at the front stepped forward again and stopped before Su Chen.

Then it lowered its proud head and nudged his pocket,

where the director’s badge rested.

It evidently wanted him to put on the badge and inherit the director’s position.

The presence of all four lions was clearly a show of support.

They were telling him not to fear the shadow. With them present, they would protect his life.

Su Chen let out a long breath. It seemed he could finally break the deadlock.

Every viewer in Longguo’s livestream entered a state of complete excitement.

“Holy shit! That’s incredible! God Su actually brought all four white lions over as muscle. I never expected this!”

“We’ve got this, brothers! Victory is already staring us in the face; how could we possibly lose? Judging by how terrified it was of the white lions before, Su Chen has taken control of the whole zoo!”

“This feels amazing! The Chosen Ones from other countries are struggling to survive in the zoo, while Su Chen is conquering it. Let those other countries keep mocking us if they dare. What a relief!”

“I want to report this! You people of Longguo are cheating. I demand that the Supreme Rule of the Horror World punish Longguo!”

“Where did this lunatic come from? Your words show complete contempt for the Horror World. If anyone gets punished, I think it should be you first!”

[Supreme Rule of the Horror World: A reasonable point. This rule has erased the person who showed contempt for it! Once again, do not provoke this rule!]

A conspicuous announcement appeared on everyone’s screen.
