Chapter 90
Chapter 90
Ye Piaoling said, “He’s an official.”
“An official?” Granny Li was stunned. “Then why would he…”
“I don’t know!” Ye Piaoling looked utterly aggrieved. Then she asked, “Granny, are you married?”
Granny Li nodded.
Ye Piaoling asked earnestly, “Then every time you go to bed, does your husband make you pay?”
Granny Li said, “No…”
Ye Piaoling burst into tears. “Heavens, my husband makes me pay every single time! Your husband is so good. He’s practically an immortal husband!”
Granny Li was speechless.
After a long silence, Granny Li said, “My husband is indeed a good man, but, young lady, in a normal household, one generally doesn’t charge money for that sort of thing…”
Ye Piaoling’s gaze froze.
Granny Li had just said Gu Liuxian was a good man!!!
Then why was she still rejecting him?
Ye Piaoling sobbed, “Then what should I do… Granny, could you have your husband talk to my husband and tell him not to charge me anymore when we go to bed?”
Granny Li sighed and said sympathetically, “Young lady, although I’d very much like to help you, that won’t work. My husband and I have already separated. I can’t order him to do anything anymore.”
“What? Separated?”
Ye Piaoling looked shocked. “Your husband is that good, and he doesn’t even charge you when you go to bed… Why would you separate from him?”
Granny Li fell silent for a moment before saying, “It’s a long story. We’ve been separated for many years now.”
Tears shimmered in Ye Piaoling’s eyes, and her face was full of a desire to hear the story.
Granny Li sighed. A desolate look surfaced on her wrinkled face. “At first, I had no choice. Not long after we married, his master came to take him back to cultivate. He was a genius in cultivation, yet he wanted to give up the path to immortality and live an ordinary life with me… I didn’t want to hold him back, so I found an excuse, quarreled with him, and left.”
Ye Piaoling’s heart shook.
So that was how it was!
Granny Li wasn’t being unreasonable. She had done it for Gu Liuxian’s sake!
Granny Li continued, “Only after I left the imperial city did I realize I was pregnant. I gave birth to a daughter.”
“Later, Heavenly Evil Creatures descended and brought chaos to the mortal world. My daughter was not even three years old, and she got lost in the war. No matter how I searched, I couldn’t find her…”
Granny Li wiped away her tears. “I was useless. I failed to take care of our child. How could I have the face to see my husband again? Many years later, he finally found me, but I could no longer face him…”
“If I hadn’t stubbornly insisted on leaving back then, our child never would have been lost!”
By the time Granny Li finished speaking, her aged eyes were already brimming with tears.
After listening, Ye Piaoling was dazed for a long while.
So Granny Li and the Ancestral Master actually had a child?
If the Ancestral Master knew, who knew how happy he would be!
Ye Piaoling tested the waters. “You said your husband was a genius in cultivation, so he must be very powerful! Why not let him search with you?”
Granny Li shook her head and said, “I left him back then because I didn’t want him to be tied down by worldly affections. What would be the point of telling him now? Besides, after all these years, if our daughter is well, she must have married and started a family by now. Her child should be about your age.”
Granny Li sighed, and a beautiful fantasy flashed through her eyes for a brief instant.
Ye Piaoling was dumbfounded as she listened.
Granny Li was far too stubborn. She wholeheartedly wanted what was best for Gu Liuxian, but she had also underestimated the depth of Gu Liuxian’s feelings.
Her trip today truly had not been in vain!
After finishing her own story, Granny Li began to comfort her. “Enough about me. Little girl, take my advice. That husband of yours really is too much. If it doesn’t work out, why not divorce him?”
Ye Piaoling smiled and nodded hard. “All right! Granny Li, please wait here for me. I’ll go divorce him right now, and I’ll come straight back once it’s done!”
With that, she hurried out.
Granny Li: “…?”
Was she really in that much of a rush?
Young people these days, honestly…
Granny Li sighed, utterly speechless.
Ye Piaoling raced back to the Wenxian Sect and told Gu Liuxian the earth-shattering news she had learned that night.
After hearing it, Gu Liuxian nearly forgot how to breathe. He was so shocked he almost fainted.
“You… what did you say?” His voice trembled violently. “We… we have…”
“Yes. The two of you have a child.”
“!!!!!”
For a man who had been destined to grow old alone, to suddenly learn that his own flesh and blood existed somewhere in the world-what unimaginable happiness that was!
Gu Liuxian first froze like a block of stone. After standing there in a daze for a long while, he began to laugh, laughing like a complete fool.
When he finally finished laughing, he said solemnly, “I don’t believe you. You must be lying on purpose so I’ll help you with something.”
Ye Piaoling said, “Come on. We’re going to see Granny Li right now. I’ll go with you!”
Gu Liuxian still could not believe it. All the way there, he kept muttering, “Wicked disciple, trying to fool me. I don’t believe it…” as Ye Piaoling dragged him to Granny Li’s courtyard gate.
“Granny Li, I’m back!” Ye Piaoling knocked on the door.
“You finished the divorce that quickly?”
Granny Li opened the door in surprise.
Ye Piaoling stepped to the side, revealing Gu Liuxian behind her. “I brought your husband here.”
Granny Li froze.
Her gaze darted back and forth between Ye Piaoling and Gu Liuxian before it suddenly dawned on her: these two were in this together!
“You!!”
Granny Li stiffened in embarrassment, then stormed back inside.
Gu Liuxian quickly thickened his skin and followed her in. “Ali, she told me everything. Was what she said true? Do we have a daughter… or not?”
Granny Li turned around and met Gu Liuxian’s hopeful, shining eyes.
Their gazes locked. Granny Li held out for a long while before tears suddenly spilled down her face.
“Yes, it’s true. So what? Our daughter can no longer be found! It’s all my fault. I was useless. I couldn’t even take care of one child…”
“It’s not your fault!” Gu Liuxian lunged forward and hugged her tightly, gently patting her back. “Ali, don’t worry. Even if I have to search to the ends of the earth, I will bring our daughter back!”
The old couple clung to each other and wept.
Watching them, Ye Piaoling felt deeply moved.
After they had cried for quite some time, Gu Liuxian sniffled and asked, “Where did our daughter go missing? Did she have any token on her?”
Granny Li said, “It was in Xizhou City. At the time, I wanted to find a place far from the imperial capital to live in seclusion, but then war broke out… She didn’t have any special token on her. Only a five-colored cord I had braided and tied around her wrist.”
Gu Liuxian asked, “What kind of five-colored cord was it?”
Granny Li said, “The very old-fashioned kind, with seven colored knots tied into it. I can only recognize it if I see it.”
Hearing that, Ye Piaoling took a five-colored cord out of her storage pouch.
“Granny Li, are the old-fashioned colored knots you mentioned like these?”
Granny Li’s eyes lit up. “Yes, exactly like these!”
She took the five-colored cord and examined it carefully. Then her expression suddenly turned to one of shock.
“This… Where did this come from?”
Ye Piaoling said, “It belonged to my late mother.”
