Chapter 72
The assassin said, “If you’re willing to forgive me, I’ll take you back to get it.”
Ye Piaoling hesitated for a moment, then agreed. “Deal!”
She was also curious what kind of organization that super-long-named Above-Something-Below-Something Heartless Tower actually was.
The assassin nodded gratefully.
Ye Piaoling got on her electric scooter and followed behind him.
The assassin led her a very long way, all the way to the desolate, dilapidated outskirts of the city.
He stopped and said, “We’re here.”
Ye Piaoling said, “Huh???”
The assassin pointed at a building beside the narrow path. “This is our organization.”
Ye Piaoling looked in the direction he was pointing.
Before her stood an abandoned stilt house. To put it plainly, it was a broken thatched shed propped up on four wooden posts, with a ladder beside it, together forming a tiny two-story hut.
One of the four wooden posts had already snapped, and the thatched shed on top was tilted at a dramatic angle, on the verge of collapse. Bits of straw kept shedding from the roof.
Ye Piaoling asked, “This is your Above-Something-Below-Something Heartless Tower?”
The assassin nodded. “Yes.”
Ye Piaoling could not help sighing. “These office conditions really are pretty heartless…”
Heartless above and heartless below.
The assassin said, “We have now kept up with the trends of the jianghu and changed our name. We are no longer called Above to the Azure Sky, Below to the Yellow Springs, Ancient and Modern Number One Heartless Tower.”
Ye Piaoling asked, “Then what are you called?”
The assassin said, “Qieleme.”
Ye Piaoling fell silent.
So after their business transformation, the company name had changed too.
Ye Piaoling asked, “How many people does Qieleme have?”
The assassin said, “Me and the Tower Master.”
Ye Piaoling said, “Just the two of you?”
“No,” the assassin said. “The Tower Master returned to his hometown in the countryside a few days ago. Before he left, he appointed me as the new Tower Master.”
Ye Piaoling fell silent again.
Ye Piaoling said, “So right now, there’s only you?”
“Correct. Now I am already the Tower Master!”
The assassin said proudly, “That’s why I dared to guarantee I could give you the tower’s treasured artifact!”
As they spoke, another small gust of wind blew past.
The remaining three support posts of the stilt house finally felt the last straw that broke the camel’s back. Unable to bear the burden any longer, they all snapped with a series of cracks…
With a rumble, the thatched shed fell to the ground.
The two-story hut became a bungalow in seconds.
Ye Piaoling fell silent.
The assassin said, “This is good too. It’ll be easier to enter now. Saves us from climbing the ladder.”
With that, he calmly pushed open the door and walked inside.
After entering the thatched shed, the assassin found a candle in the corner and lit it, illuminating the darkness.
Ye Piaoling looked around and finally understood what it meant to have nothing but four bare walls.
She also understood why the former Tower Master had gone back to his hometown.
This place looked like it had gone through bankruptcy liquidation. There were no fixed assets at all. No table, no chairs-only piles of straw on the ground serving as bedding.
The assassin rummaged through the straw pile and soon dug out a wooden box.
“This is the treasure the old Tower Master left behind. It’s yours.”
Ye Piaoling accepted the wooden box. There was a rusty lock on it.
“Where’s the key?”
“Lost.”
The assassin sighed and explained, “The old Tower Master was the one who lost it. He said if anyone wanted to open it, just smash the lock.”
Ye Piaoling fiddled with the box and could not help asking,
“This is your tower’s only asset. Are you really willing to give it to me?”
The assassin said, “Yes. Aside from wanting you to let me off, there’s actually another reason.”
Ye Piaoling asked, “What reason?”
The assassin said, “I want to go back to my hometown too.”
Ye Piaoling was silent.
The assassin continued, “But the organization cannot be left without a successor, so I have decided to appoint you as the new Tower Master before I leave. From now on, you are the Tower Master of Qieleme. Naturally, this treasure must be handed over to you as well.”
“…”
Ye Piaoling, who had suddenly been appointed Tower Master, held the wooden box and felt the weight of a long and difficult road ahead.
Becoming the Tower Master just like that-she was a little unused to it at first.
“Well? Did happiness come too suddenly?”
The assassin patted her shoulder and encouraged her, “The future of the organization is in your hands now. I believe in you!”
With that, he turned and strode out of the thatched hut, heading toward his hometown overnight.
“…”
That left Ye Piaoling standing alone in the dim yellow candlelight, feeling deeply complicated.
After calming herself for a while, she smashed open the lock on the wooden box.
She really wanted to know what this organization’s heirloom treasure was!
With a clatter, the lock opened.
Something fell out of the box.
It was actually a yellowed book.
Ye Piaoling picked it up and looked. On the cover was the title: How Trash Is Made.
“…”
Just from the title alone, she felt like the contents would be extremely useful.
Ye Piaoling flipped through it, but surprise gradually appeared on her face.
This was actually a secret manual that even trash could cultivate. And the very first technique was the Spatial Teleportation Art!
Spatial teleportation was originally an extremely advanced spell. It required powerful magic to use, and Ye Piaoling’s cultivation was nowhere near enough.
The reason this book was called How Trash Is Made was because it contained a method of teleportation specifically suited for trash to practice. With only a tiny bit of spiritual power, one could complete the formation and draw the talisman, instantly teleporting an item from one place to another!
Ye Piaoling held the book, and wild joy surged through her heart.
With this spell, the Regent King’s Bed was practically within easy reach!
She could use the Trash Transfer Method without anyone noticing to move the Regent King’s Bed out!!
To hell with paying one thousand coins to sleep on it once. She did not need any of that anymore!!!
