Chapter 16
Chapter 16
“You’ve even fooled yourself with that little theory of yours, haven’t you?”
By then, we were already far from the city. If we kept going straight, we would soon reach the resort area where Ruihe was located.
The willow trees on both sides of the road thrashed wildly in the wind. Even so, my headlights still flickered every now and then.
“How is it fooling anyone? Are you saying my words don’t make sense?”
Liu Wu tilted his head and looked at me. “Mr. Long doesn’t strike me as some stubborn old fossil who sees everything in black and white.”
“The so-called Trolley Problem is nothing more than a fig leaf for humanity. When it comes down to it, everyone knows what choice to make. Don’t tell me Mr. Long is the type to get hung up on pointless details?”
“I don’t know anything about the Trolley Problem, and I don’t believe everything is black and white either.”
I took a cigarette from my pocket and put it between my lips. “But I do believe the order of Heaven is constant, and life and death are ruled by fate.”
“Since even you people admit that sorcery is an act of defying Heaven, then even if that child is born, he will spend his entire life burdened by a curse of blood debt. He will never know peace.”
“When that time comes, forget the child himself-even his parents will probably regret it for the rest of their lives.”
Liu Wu stared at me in disbelief, about to argue, but I went on before he could speak. “Besides, I know exactly what kind of people your Sky-Watching Sect are.”
“You never lift a finger without something to gain. After spending so much effort and taking such a huge risk, are you really going to tell me you’re doing this out of kindness?”
“More likely, you’re planning to keep that cursed young heir in the palm of your hand from now on. You want that so-called great philanthropist, Mr. Chen, to become a puppet feeding blood to the Sky-Watching Sect, don’t you?”
The mask of false benevolence on Liu Wu’s face finally cracked. His expression turned cold as he looked at me. “You’re right, Mr. Long. Of course we’re not good people. But so what? Don’t you want revenge anymore?”
Liu Wu seemed utterly confident. “You care so much about what happened twenty-six years ago. Don’t you want to know who harmed your younger sister? Even now, only we, the Sky-Watching Sect, can give you the answer you want.”
In the rearview mirror, I met Liu Wu’s smug gaze. He probably never would have imagined that the mother of the true culprit from twenty-six years ago had already left me every piece of information.
“Feng Shan is already dead.”
My voice was ice-cold. Liu Wu froze on the spot.
“The vice director of Maternal and Child Hospital No. 3, the one who took money to do their dirty work, also jumped off a building. And now, even the entire hospital has collapsed.”
I turned my head to look at Liu Wu. “What I need to do now is stop you from recreating the tragedy of twenty-six years ago!”
At the fork in the road ahead, I flipped on the turn signal.
Liu Wu panicked at once and grabbed the hand I had on the steering wheel. “Even if Feng Shan is dead, her daughter is still alive! That girl only survived because she stole your sister’s soul!”
“That wasn’t a choice she got to make-”
I shoved Liu Wu away and turned decisively onto the side road.
But Liu Wu had not come unprepared. The moment I left the main road, several black SUVs behind us followed right after me.

On the day the Ghost Gate Opens, those of us who drove long-haul trucks knew better than to travel at night.
But that night, I was driving alone down the road to an old public cemetery.
