Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The left side of my body shuddered with a sudden chill, and the world before my eyes warped in an instant.
I thought I was going to pass out. Instead, a wash of deathly pale light woke me.
Once again, I saw the marble floor tiles of the hospital corridor. People hurried back and forth all around me.
My point of view kept moving. I saw a medical tray in a nurse’s hands. We went up the stairs and entered a private ward.
A woman was standing by the window. I couldn’t make out her face, but when she turned around, I saw her belly. She was pregnant!
“You really shouldn’t get up. You need to stay in bed right now.”
I heard the nurse’s voice. It seemed I had fallen into that nurse’s memories.
The woman didn’t listen. She remained standing there and held out her hand to the nurse. “Where are the things I asked for?”
I could sense that the nurse was nervous. Her heart was pounding wildly. “What do you need those things for? If you want to protect the pregnancy, you should get more rest. Maybe…”
“Cut the crap. You took the money, so do the job!” the woman said, her voice unnervingly cold.
The nurse froze in place. After a long moment, she lifted the white cloth covering the tray.
To my shock, underneath was a thick stack of pediatric patient files.
I spotted my little sister at once. She was right on the first page!
The nurse hesitated as she handed the files over, but she didn’t let go right away. “Feng Shan, this is a hospital. You-”
Before the nurse could finish, the whole stack was yanked out of her hands.
My vision lurched with the movement. The next moment, the nurse was rushing breathlessly into an office.
“How could she possibly give birth? The baby in her belly lost its heartbeat a long time ago!”
I couldn’t see the face of the person in the office either. All I could make out was a white coat.
“Why are you sticking your nose into this?”
This time, the speaker was a man, and his tone was full of impatience. “Get out already. Stop making such a scene!”
“What are you people trying to do? Have you lost your minds?”
“Seven children died in pediatrics. Seven!”
The nurse sounded as if she was on the verge of breaking down. Her entire worldview was collapsing.
But the man laughed. “Putting on an act of righteousness now, are you? You were more than happy to take the money back then.”
The world in the nurse’s eyes instantly turned black and white.
Through her eyes, I saw parents sobbing in utter devastation. I saw tiny infant corpses wrapped up one after another.
I could hear the nurse’s thoughts. Again and again, she asked herself, “What have I done?”
Maybe when she took the money, she thought it was nothing more than a game of deceiving others and deceiving herself. She had never imagined it would truly lead to such terrible consequences.

Soul-Whip 11: Life-Soul Seizing Art
On the day the Ghost Gate Opens, those of us who drove long-haul trucks knew better than to travel at night.
But that night, I was driving alone down the road to an old public cemetery.
