Chapter 7
Chapter 7
I left the very next day after finishing the divorce formalities.
It was snowing heavily that day.
Su Kai called, actually offering to see me off.
“No need. I only have one suitcase-the same one I brought three years ago. I can manage on my own.”
But he came anyway.
Inside the train station, I waited for ticket inspection while he stood silently to the side.
His phone rang many times, but he didn’t answer. Eventually, he turned it off entirely.
I figured that since I was the one who supposedly cheated, and I had now granted him a clean divorce so he and Xiao Jing could be together without obstacles, he must feel some level of guilt toward me.
Coming here to see me off was probably just a way to ease that conscience of his.
When it was time to board, I pushed my suitcase forward, but he suddenly grabbed my arm.
I turned back.
“Let me know when you get home,” he said softly.
I shook my head and pulled my hand away.
“Su Kai, we’re divorced.”
“From now on, let’s just act as if we never met.”
With that, I walked away without looking back.
Standing on the platform amidst the swirling snow, it felt as if everything had been reset.
Three years ago, I came here alone with a heart full of love and reckless courage, carrying a single suitcase.
Three years later, at the same station, I left behind all the pain and resentment, once again alone, and departed.
This time, I would never come back.
It was seven in the morning when I arrived home.
Standing before the front door, I hesitated.
Back then, I hadn’t listened to my parents; I had been willful and headstrong. I deserved this miserable end.
What right did someone like me have to come back crying, seeking my parents’ protection?
Just then, the door suddenly opened.
My mother, dressed in thick loungewear, was likely heading out to take out the trash. When she saw me, she froze on the spot.
“Shu… Shushu?”
“Mom…” my voice trembled.
“Oh, you child! Why didn’t you say you were coming back?” My mother hurriedly pulled me inside while shouting toward the interior, “Dear, come out quickly! Shushu is home!”
“Why the sudden return? You’re dressed so thinly-look how cold your hands are. How long have you been standing at the door? Why didn’t you knock?” My mother took the suitcase from my hand. “Where’s Su Kai? Why isn’t he with you?”
At that moment, my father walked out of the bedroom.
I couldn’t hold it in any longer. The tears came crashing down.
“Dad, Mom…”
“I got a divorce…”
