Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Su Kai’s career soon entered a period of rapid ascent.
In just two years, he made it to department manager. During those two years, he attended countless drinking sessions. Every time he came home drunk and vomiting, I was the one by his side, heart aching as I cleaned up after him.
It was at the banquet celebrating his promotion to General Manager that I met Xiao Jing for the first time.
With her long, wavy hair and exquisite makeup, she walked up to Su Kai with an elegant, swaying gait, holding a wine glass. She tilted her head and offered him her congratulations.
Perhaps it was a woman’s unique sixth sense, but for the first time, I felt a wave of unease.
After we got home that day, I asked Su Kai who she was.
Su Kai was a bit tipsy. He pulled me into his arms, gave me a kiss, and said, “Xiao Jing? She’s just a colleague in my department.”
Before I could press him further, he had already fallen asleep.
But Xiao Jing was no ordinary colleague.
She very quickly began to invade the life Su Kai and I shared.
Late-night messages, frequent phone calls, the scent of perfume on his shirts.
These soon became the catalysts for our arguments. I couldn’t tolerate Xiao Jing’s blatant provocations, and the time Su Kai spent working overtime grew longer and longer.
Until one night, I waited until eleven o’clock, and he still hadn’t come home.
I took a taxi to his office building, only to see Xiao Jing on the steps, her arm linked through his as she straightened his collar.
“Hurry on home,” she said with a slight smile, her tone carrying a hint of a coquettish pout. “Otherwise, those ‘deadly’ back-to-back calls will start coming again.”
Su Kai gave a helpless, bitter smile.
“I’ll go back after she’s asleep.”
That night, I couldn’t restrain myself.
I rushed forward, shoved Su Kai aside, and slapped Xiao Jing across the face.
What did Su Kai say that night?
Right, he said:
“Lu Shu, you’re acting like a common shrew.”
After that night, my relationship with Su Kai hit rock bottom.
We didn’t speak to each other at all until half a month later, when Su Kai pushed a divorce agreement in front of me.
I had never seen him look so cold.
He told me that he had truly fallen for Xiao Jing.
He knew that having an affair was wrong, but when love came calling, he couldn’t control himself.
I stared at him, dazed.
“Love?” I repeated his words woodenly, feeling as though my entire world was collapsing. “If what you have with her is love, then what about us?”
He remained silent for a long time before saying only one thing.
“Let’s get a divorce.”
