Chapter 4

I didn’t agree to the divorce.

I couldn’t accept it.

Later, Xiao Jing came to my school to find me, saying she wanted to talk.

“Only incompetent women rely on marriage to tie a man down.” Facing me, her face was full of disdain. “Is there any point in doing this?”

She pulled up a surveillance video on her phone.

“Teacher Lu, tell me, what would your students think if they saw you acting like a shrew that night? What would the school think if they found out?

“You should just hurry up and get a divorce. Su Kai is my man. We’ve done everything together. He only has eyes for me now, so why go looking for trouble?

“What’s your reason for not divorcing? Do you think he’s rich and has a great career?” She looked at me mockingly. “You need to have some self-awareness. You’re just an ordinary primary school teacher. I’m the one who’s a match for him. I see there are plenty of male teachers at your school. Why don’t you find a divorced one and live a quiet life? Wouldn’t that be better?

“You’ve long since been unable to keep up with Su Kai’s world.”

That day, she said a lot of things and even threatened me with the video of me hitting her that night.

I remained silent the entire time.

Finally, she grew impatient and asked what I actually wanted.

I only said one thing.

“If you’re so capable, then make him divorce me.”

After that, Su Kai stopped coming home, so I called him over and over again.

When he blacklisted my number, I went to his company entrance to intercept him.

I was like a woman possessed.

I had only one thought in my mind.

If they weren’t going to let me live in peace, then no one would.

I wrote out our story, printed it onto A4 sheets, and plastered them all over the bottom of their office building, handing them out to everyone entering and leaving the company.

Didn’t she want to expose me?

Then I would expose her first.

She thought I was afraid of losing everything.

But in reality, I had long since had nothing left to lose.

From the moment I broke ties with my family for Su Kai’s sake, he was all I had.

And yet, he didn’t want me anymore.

Xiao Jing underestimated the madness I was capable of to protect this marriage.

She called me a madwoman.

Word of her affair with Su Kai quickly spread throughout the company, and to protect its image, the company fired her.

The news also reached Su Kai’s parents.

The elderly couple were very traditional people and were furious when they found out.

They called Su Kai and me back to their home. In front of me, my father-in-law struck Su Kai, while my mother-in-law declared that if Su Kai dared to get a divorce, she would hang herself.

Ultimately, Su Kai compromised.

He broke up with Xiao Jing and returned to the family.

In this war of three, I had finally won.

That night, Su Kai and I talked for the entire evening.

We reminisced about the past together. I flipped through pages of our old photos for him. By the end, I was crying, and Su Kai was crying too.

With bloodshot eyes, he apologized to me and took me back into his arms, saying, “Shushu, I’m sorry. Let’s start over.”

My tears wouldn’t stop flowing, and I reflected on all the impulsive things I had done.

That night, we slept in each other’s arms. He put in the effort, and I was cooperative.

After that, we spent about two months in peace. He no longer worked overtime frequently. We would still cook together, watch movies together, chat about the interesting things that happened each day, and visit his parents together.

We even discussed going back to see my parents during his vacation next month.

It seemed as if everything had returned to how it used to be.

Until that night, while he was in the shower, his phone kept flashing on the table.

I couldn’t help myself and picked it up.

The contact name was “L.” Just as I answered, the other party hung up.

I was curious, but then I saw a string of messages sent by the other party.

“Kai, can you still come tomorrow? I miss you so much.

“I cried for a long time while holding the pillow you slept on yesterday. I miss you, I really miss you. I don’t want to sleep alone. It hurts so much. Why can’t we be together when we clearly love each other?

“I’ve thought about it for a long, long time. It doesn’t matter even if you don’t give me a formal status, but you must never stop wanting me. I really love you; I can’t live without you.

“I’ll go to the job you found for me. I know you can’t divorce her because of your parents. We’ll take it slow. We’ll get through this hardship together, okay?”

Every sentence was filled with emotion.

Every word was a testament to true love.

When Su Kai came out of the shower, I was still holding the phone in a daze.

He snatched the phone away, glanced at it hurriedly, and spoke. “Shushu…”

“You’re still in contact with her?”

I stood up, looking at him in disbelief. “Not just in contact-you helped her find a job? And you’ve been sleeping with her?”

“Calm down…”

How could I possibly calm down? Rage shattered my reason, and I screamed hysterically, “How could you do this to me?! Su Kai, how could you?! You said we were going to start over!”

Su Kai let me scream and vent, his expression becoming increasingly cold.

“Shushu, I said I wouldn’t divorce you.

“Xiao Jing can’t accept this for the time being. I will handle it slowly.

“These days haven’t been any easier for me than they have for you.”

He said, “Stop pushing me, okay?”
