Chapter 30
Chapter 30
In the end, Pei Yuming got his hands on it. Seeing his phone unlocked, Lu Dong was so anxious that sweat dripped down.
He struggled desperately to snatch it back, but he was no match for the two brothers. Not only did he fail to touch the phone, he was left gasping for breath from the effort.
Pei Yuming found the contacts in WeChat, then handed it to Bai Xue and Su Jin.
“These are all women he’s dated.”
Pei Yuming’s words were astonishing, and even Pei Yucheng, who was exerting himself to hold down Lu Dong, craned his neck curiously to look.
“Over two hundred?” Bai Xue couldn’t help but widen her eyes and exclaim.
“What?” Pei Yucheng was so surprised that his hand loosened, almost letting Lu Dong escape.
“Don’t listen to his nonsense!” Lu Dong, sprawled on the sofa, felt like dying. “Those are all my clients. There are so many people that I got a separate phone for them.”
That sounded plausible. Although Lu Dong held the title of hospital director, the surgeries he had performed over the years could be counted on one hand. Ever since taking over the Su Family’s dental hospital, he had been handling management and operations. On the surface he was a renowned, highly skilled director, but in reality he was just the general manager.
Even Su Jin, who never inquired about the family business, knew he dealt with many people and had many social engagements, so having a separate phone was quite normal.
Su Jin and Bai Xue’s expressions both relaxed somewhat; clearly they also didn’t quite believe that Lu Dong alone could have hooked up with over two hundred people.
Pei Yuming, who had anticipated he would say this, glanced at him disdainfully and said to Su Jin, “Su Jin, trust me. Send a mass message to all contacts on this phone right now. Just send ‘Do you have time recently?’ After that, you’ll know who’s telling the truth.”
“No, don’t! You can’t send it!” Lu Dong screamed at Su Jin, “Wife, these are all important clients that I worked hard to add. If I harass them for no reason, they’ll block me!”
With him saying this, Su Jin hesitated again. She glanced at Pei Yuming and said, “How about…”
Without waiting for her to finish, Pei Yuming handed the phone to Bai Xue and sneered, “It’s just a greeting message. How is that harassment? If they’re really clients who sincerely want to cooperate, they’d be eager to keep in touch. Xiao Xue, you send it.”
Bai Xue took the phone, glanced at Lu Dong, who was pleading with his eyes, and after a long silence, she hardened her heart and said, “Fine, I’ll do it.”
Hearing her agree, Lu Dong, still sprawled on the sofa, immediately showed a look of despair.
Whether it was related to the content of the message or not, as soon as the message was sent, replies came flooding in, many of them voice messages. Bai Xue tapped the top one to play it, and one tender, sultry voice message after another followed. Now, without Pei Yuming needing to say anything, everyone knew what was going on.
After a single mass message, replies trickled in for five whole minutes before things finally calmed down a bit.
Bai Xue, holding the phone, went from shock to numbness, and every time she looked at Lu Dong, it was with venomous resentment. Watching this, Pei Yuming felt a sense of satisfaction from body to soul. He even felt that he might not mind Bai Xue’s infidelity and the hurt it caused him as much anymore.
Seeing the looks of mutual blame between the two, he faintly anticipated what would happen after they fell out.
But for now, their illicit affair hadn’t been exposed, and the one who had the most say was still Su Jin, the legitimate wife.
She had been standing beside Bai Xue since just now, looking at the messages on the phone with her. Every time Bai Xue played one, her face paled a little more, until finally she could barely stand and needed to lean on Bai Xue to keep herself upright.
After listening to the last voice message, Bai Xue finally noticed that Su Jin’s expression was off. Although she hated Lu Dong to the bone, seeing Su Jin like this, she actually felt a surge of sympathy.
She supported Su Jin, and together they glared fiercely at Lu Dong.
Su Jin had grown up in a well-off family, her parents and relatives all educated elites. Even when disputes occurred, they were discussed softly and calmly, and tempers never flared. She could never, like Bai Xue, shout her frustrations directly at anyone regardless of who they were. Though she sometimes wished she could, her deep-seated upbringing forbade it.
She watched her husband’s face turn red as he was pinned on the sofa. For the first time in twenty years, she realized how much of a stranger the person beside her had become. Supported by Bai Xue, she stepped forward, drew closer to Lu Dong, and asked condescendingly, “Why? You need to give me an explanation.”
Although the question sounded weak, as if it had no power over a guilty man, it struck at the crux. Even Bai Xue stood aside, listening attentively.
Pei Yuming signaled his younger brother, who was still exerting himself to hold Lu Dong down. Pei Yucheng released him and stood up straight from the sofa, stepping away-probably worried that Lu Dong would turn and attack him.
But he had clearly overestimated Lu Dong’s stamina. After struggling for so long, Lu Dong was already exhausted and gasping for breath. He lay limp on the sofa for a good half minute before sitting up.
Lu Dong smoothed his clothes and hair, then said slowly, “Honey, believe it or not, nothing happened between me and those people.”
“Hah,” Pei Yuming cut in, “Whether it happened or not isn’t for you to say. The phone is now in my Su Jin’s hands. How about I ask those people again for her?”
Lu Dong gave Pei Yuming a confused look. He was certain he’d never crossed him; they had no conflicts of interest, whether public or private. Why was he being so ruthless today?
“Lao Pei, what’s gotten into you? If you’re unhappy about something, you can just tell me straight. Why use such baseless rumors to drive a wedge between me and my wife!”
Pei Yuming hadn’t expected that even at this point, he could still brazenly distort the truth. Fortunately, he had known the inside story long before; otherwise, with no concrete proof, he might have been falsely accused again, just like before, with everyone turning against him and blaming him.
“Don’t rush to convict me. I wouldn’t dare drive a wedge. The evidence is in my Su Jin’s hands; we’ll know the truth once we ask. And I’m not targeting you without reason. I just have one question for you: Where were you an hour ago? Can you answer that?”
At that, it wasn’t only Lu Dong whose face changed. Bai Xue, beside Su Jin, also turned pale. She stole a surreptitious glance at her husband, wondering what he meant. Had he found out?
With that thought, a cold sweat broke out on her back.
No wonder he’d had a stern face as soon as he got home. Even though she’d bottled up her anger, he still gave her the cold shoulder. If he hadn’t found out something, he wouldn’t dare treat her like this given his nature.
The more Bai Xue thought, the more she was convinced she was right. She remembered meeting Lu Dong an hour ago, and how Lu Dong had been so impatient with her in the elevator. If Pei Yuming really knew, he just had to ask the property management to check the elevator surveillance, and everything would be laid bare.
